Not surprised that it's happening but kind of shocked that it's UW Sigh.... this doesn't make me happy if true.

Saw something about Andrew White from KU. Doesn't appear to be confirmed.

"From the first practice, [Reeves] Nelson's treatment of [Matt] Carlino was a divisive issue. Carlino suffered a concussion during the preseason that caused him to miss the first three games. Nelson ridiculed Carlino for letting the injury sideline him. He told Carlino he didn't belong at UCLA and wasn't any good. He would yell at Carlino to leave the locker room, calling him "concussion boy." When Carlino returned to workouts, Nelson would go out of his way to set a screen on Carlino so he could hit him. Eventually, players say, Carlino dreaded practice. It was of little surprise when he left UCLA midway through the season and transferred to BYU. "After Carlino left, there was a team meeting at which Howland said he couldn't respect a quitter. "But everyone knew why Matt left," says one player. "He didn't want to keep sitting on the bench, but most of all he didn't want to be around Reeves anymore. That wasn't quitting. That was just smart." "Concussion boy"? Zing! Reeves Nelson is probably the most toxic player in the history of basketball. He would've been perfect at Cuse And people wonder why Howland doesn't have a job?

Howland's performance at UCLA was truly a shock to me. I know several people in that program and much more was expected in terms of "control" when he arrived. Yes, he had results and he had supporters among some players and members of the Administration. Yet, when a team fragments the way his did and when there appears to be out-of-control factions among the players that go unchecked by the coaching staff over a long period of time, there is a major problem. The articles written at the end of his tenure with UCLA detailing just how chaotic the basketball team had become should be required reading for for all Athletic Departments in evaluating what they should not tolerate in an effort to win games. It speaks volumes when a school terminates the contract of a coach who had the "results" on the court that Howland achieved.

This is the kid who committed to and enrolled at UCLA, got hurt, and then left the team after one game because he didn't play. That took weird transfers to a new level. But he is pretty good. "He didn't want to keep sitting on the bench, but most of all he didn't want to be around Reeves anymore. That wasn't quitting. That was just smart." This rates a "wow" on many levels. Thanks, POD. Needless to say, this information never made it into the LA Times. As bad as this makes Nelson look, Howland in some respects comes off worse, as his criticism of Carlino under these circumstances is beyond reprehensible.

Tyler Lewis being mentioned with Butler along with Etherington. They need some D-1 talent and have had two big transfers this year so I hope they get an influx of talent to keep the bottom half of the conference strong. A solid top to bottom league can be achieved with 10, not with the 15 to 16 team conferences that are now out there.

SO much for my diagnoses that St. Johns would be returning everyone of consequence. I think the terps are a season away from a new coach too. Just too many losses considering their improved recruiting.

That's a curious transfer. Wonder what is going on behind the scenes at St. John's. Do they have anyone coming in next yr? Zero size on their roster.

Lavin might be done.. Rumors out there that CO will not be the last... I've stayed away from the doomsday stuff where any bad news affecting any BE team means the demise of the league. BUT... Man, SJU is just imploding and it is not a good time for that program to continue to suck and even reach new depths of suckiness. Ugh.

This is the last thing the conference needs. Thanks alot, Lavin. Lavin worked for ESPN right? There it is. He is a mole planted by ESPN to help destroy the Big East. I bet he has a summer home near Area 51 also.

The Johnnies are reportedly down to seven returning scholarship athletes for next season, without any incoming scholarship players. Not surprisingly, we aren't hearing very much now about Lavin's six-year contract extension.
