Do we have any shot with Azubuike? From the outside looking in, it looks like Banks might be the only big we're currently in on. This is a very good question and to go in on Talos post I was looking at Verbal Commits and their transfer list and there doesn't seem to be any good 7 footers out there, or at least from what I've seen. I took a look at the transfers list to kinda see what JTIII would be looking at, he's been known to keep a scholarship in his pocket for a good transfer.

Seems like we are really focusing on 2017 in terms of forwards.

With the roster outlook, JT3 and staff have put themselves in a position of luxury. Why focus on a position if there is only one scholarship available and good balance? Why not take a chance and go for a stud? How about a ready-to-contribute international? A five-star player would be the icing on the cake.
As someone mentioned recently, we seem to have stepped back from going hard after the Top 20 players. As Duke and Kentucky have shown, these players do not back down from the challenge of rosters full of AA McD talent. On the contrary, the top players want to win now.
Without pressure to fill a need, JT3 can make an all-out pitch to one or two of these players to join an already loaded, championship-caliber, experienced and balanced team.

I don't think the staff has that much luxury in terms of needs. Yes, they have a lot of good players. But we're still looking at a team that will have one center next year and still has the potential to be very thin at guard.

Yes they could strike out on all 3 but I think we get 1 of the 3. If they do, I'm sure the staff will go hard after a 1 year rental (immediately eligible graduate transfer). Worst case scenario we go into next season with Tre, Kaleb, Jagan and White as players who can give minutes in the backcourt (I'm assuming that Peak is gone after this season). As for getting another center, the only one we seem to be somewhat involved with that's still available is Banks but it does not seem like were a serious contender there. We could go after a 5th year post as well, but I think the combination of Trey, Akoy, and Derrickson can all play minutes at the 5 and solidify the position behind Govan in 2016-2017.

Take a look at the ESPN player rankings for 2016: espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/view/espnu100/sort/rank/class/2016A lot of talent available, just not that many Cs... No "G" to be found except some lists... As H4E wrote, we have good insurance for Govan next year, plus good size all-around. Why not investigate which of these top players is still wide open or open to considering GU at this point? Again, with the roster outlook right now, if the player does not come, we wouldn't be left limping into the new season. I also like H4E's idea to look for a 5th year post or, I'll add, look for a great scorer to replace DSR.

Check out the list of schools competing for Seventh Woods and Curtis Jones--the Hoyas do not appear on either.

I wonder if ESPN just puts Duke in every top 10 prospect's list.

I don't think the staff will push hard for a big until the spring, if at all for 2016.. There seems to be a crunch on scholarships right now.. Despite popular opinion to the contrary, there's a pretty good chance the team will only lose DSR & Hayes.. If that happens and they land a sg there will only be 1 scholarship left for 2017.. Either way the picture will be much clearer next spring imo.. I think you're probably right. I asked because we will only have one true center on the roster next year. But it seems JTIII really is going with the approach of versatile, "non-position" positions. It seems he may be ok with Derrickson/Agau/Mourning getting minutes at the 5. I think they'll be fine on offense, but it will be interesting to see if they can handle guarding other 5s with size or skill.

I don't think the staff will push hard for a big until the spring, if at all for 2016.. There seems to be a crunch on scholarships right now.. Not sure I agree on a scholarship crunch. We'll have 3 slots open (DSR, Hayes, +1 currently open) at minimum, and there's a decent chance we get a 4th from an early entry or a transfer. I think we should be adding at least 3 new players to the team next year. And with one guy in the fold, having 2-3 open slots heading into September, I don't think that's really all that tight. I definitely get the emphasis on guards. Before landing Jagan this summer, out of the last TWELVE players who signed on to be Hoyas, only one was a true ballhandler (point or combo guard--Campbell). And of the last EIGHTEEN players to pledge to the Hoyas only two were point/combo guards (Campbell + DSR). While some might say the staff has neglected the guard position, the truth is that we recruited a number of high level guards in that period but just weren't able to land them (last year's class in particular). Fortunately we've had a lot better luck with swingmen and combo forwards which is the bulk of our roster at this point. Still, it's probably time to build out our guard rotation a bit, so I think 2 ballhandlers in 2016 is a solid bet, especially considering we've landed one and are in decent shape with a few others. That said, I think 2 combo guards would be the maximum in one year, and we've got at least 3 and maybe more open scholarships, so have to think we'll pull down at least one frontcourt player in 2016. At this point it's hard to say who we're really in the mix with. I've thought all along that someone in the 6'9 and very athletic mold would be perfect, maybe more of a PF/C combo ala Mikael Hopkins rather than a taller but below-the-rim true center type. Guys like Diakite and SKJ would have been perfect, but it didn't pan out. Banks would be great too, but it may be a long shot. If that doesn't pan out I'd guess they'll take the best available big in the spring--which is always kind of a risky proposition IMO--or they may look for yet another 2/3 or 3/4 wing player instead. Or they may scan the transfer or 5th year markets. Either way I think we're probably looking at 2 guards + a big and/or a wing, so hopefully we can get in the mix with some frontcourt talent soon as well.

But Mosely has taken one of those 3 so there are only 2 left for 2016 & 17.. It's possible a player could leave early but the main candidates Copeland & Peak would have to have very big years to guarantee being drafted in the league right now.. I get that Peak has some personal reasons for possibly leaving for any pro league but the smart thing for him would be to think long term.. Barring something unforeseen I don't think there's one transfer possibility on the team this season.. Cameron looks like he loves it at G'town and since he's now a Jr. why would he give up on a chance to have a degree from G'town? No point bringing up Mourning.. The rest of the Sophs all play and all the freshman will at some point this season.. It's clear to me that JT3 loves Kaleb.. Seeing that Akoy just got to G'town, I doubt very much he leaves.. Once the staff gets a 2nd guard this fall, there will only be 1 scholarship left going into the spring time with a slight possibility( imo) a 2nd might open up..

That's not an assumption, it's a very real possibility. The NBA really likes Peak as a prospect Even if "the NBA likes Peak", you have to agree with A. that "he's got a lot to prove to get to that point," meaning the League after this season. I don't agree. He just needs to have a natural progression and shore up the jumper. He was an NBA athlete from day 1. He's fast becoming an NBA defender and he gets to the basket at an NBA level. Saying that he has a lot to prove to me means he wasn't already progressing that way, and that's not accurate. Scouts have liked him almost from the moment he's hit campus. From what I've been told, Copeland has more to prove to scouts than Peak does.

Peak is a great athlete, but he needs to prove he's a more consistent player to leave after this season for the NBA. He is ready now to play in some international pro leagues. Btw, I hope you're right because it means we went to the FF or better, and Peak led the way along with DSR.
