Last year at this point we had 3 verbal commits(although only 2 stayed the course). Is this a downtick in our recruiting, or just one of those years when we are more patient? Usually kids will start to cut down their lists after Peach Jam in July and set visits. Typically that's when thing start to heat up, the majority of kids are not committed yet. That's the normal cycle since kids can't sign a LOI until the Fall of their Senior year. So we were just lucky last year? I know they can't actually sign until fall, but verbal commitments are what we had last year.

Derrickson committed very early and then Govan & Dickerson jumped on board when it looked like Egbunu had a lot of interest.. I think PRhoya is on to something with his post above.. I don't feel the staff has been active enough with the 2016 class..

Or maybe scholarship situations and the evolving landscape of the college free agent market has something to do with it?

Sometimes you have early signees and it's a disaster (Brandon Bolden comes to mind) and sometimes you have late signees and it's a coup (Otto Porter anyone?). You really can't judge a recruiting class nowadays until the summer before their freshman year, since so many kids are late signers or sign and then get their release etc. WAYYYYY too early to get worried.
That said, if a high level guard like Jones or Bracey wanted to pop early, I certainly wouldn't complain.

I know they can't actually sign until fall, but verbal commitments are what we had last year. I know it's been said time and time again, but it bears repeating: Recruiting is not an exact science. Sometimes you have kids who know what they're looking for in a potential school, take the time to get in visits to those schools and make a decision because they're sure of where they want to go. We thought we got three such kids last year, but even Dickerson ended up reneging on his commitment. You never know what motivates these kids to make the decisions they make in regards to their recruitment. However, simply because we had a few commitments this time last year and none as now doesn't mean the staff isn't grinding as hard as ever. They're just dealing with an entirely different set of kids. Be patient.

At my age I have plenty of patience. It is just a little concerning that our string of misses continues to mount.

I'll take it as a positive that Daquan Bracey is still flying under the radar. Would rather not see him blow up before his planned September commitment date.

Yeah, National guys haven't seen him I also like that we're pushing for other guards in 2016 and 2017, and not sitting around waiting for Bracey. I like him, but not enough to hold a spot for him...

How would a Foster commit impact Jones? If Tyler doesn't reclassify it shouldn't because Jones would have a years head start. I would think LJ and Kaleb would affect the decision more.

Couple interesting notes on players moving up in the Rivals rankings... Javin DeLaurier, PF, Charlottesville (Va.) St. Anne's Bellfield: A high-energy, 6-foot-8 power forward from the class of 2016, DeLaurier began the spring in the latter part of the Rivals150. Thanks to inspired play with Team Loaded Virginia on the adidas Gauntlet Circuit and some movement of players from 2016 back to 2015, DeLaurier has already risen to No. 46. He crashes the glass, runs the floor, plays above the rim and is a good mid-range shooter. He's racked up offers from programs Baylor, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida, Miami, Texas, Virginia Tech and many others. Shamorie Ponds, PG, Brooklyn (N.Y.) Thomas Jefferson: Playing for the New York Lightning, the 6-footer was one of the most exciting point guards in the entire Nike EYBL. A scorer at heart, Ponds has some Russ Smith in him because of his willingness to fire away from deep, quickness and fearlessness when attacking the paint. He is also a very good on-the-ball defender. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1773876
