Yeah, I dont see really any evidence that home cooking helped us in that game. In fact, Providence was parading to the line as much as we were at the end of the game. My point was that it didnt make a measurable difference in the game. Cooley disagrees: On Bryce's run at the end of the first half... "Bryce has been doing that all year, that isn't a surprise to us. He should have had 50 [points] to be honest with you. I thought there were a lot of no-calls coming down the lane. Whatever the new rules and points of emphasis was, and I put that in bold print, `WAS', hmm. It's back to the Big East." Their fans also thought this was one of the worst officiated games ever based on their message board. Shrug. Does anybody else get the impression that Cooley is a lot more high on himself and his program than he should be? What exactly has this guy ever accomplished? Seems like a decent guy but he's never won a damn thing and, if Providence doesn't make the Tournament this year, what exactly has he shown with his first few years at the helm? He loses Cotton and Batts off this year's team, adds some decent recruits but no world beaters. Guy seems to be mediocre personified.

As JT-III pointed out in the post-game interview, we have won some important games in this recent stretch, but by no means are we out of the woods. When you look at the remainder of our schedule, it is simply brutal. Not to mention St. Johns is playing better than I have seen them play in recent memory. One solace that I see, however, was our ability to stick to our game plan and weather the Bryce Cotton storm. We will need this same discipline in the remaining games. I, for one, wish a few more of them were at home.
Having said all of that, I think we have a lot to be proud of in this team. I love Cameron; I think he will fit right in with our incoming freshmen class. Jabril was the difference in the game; his tough gritty play, and his ability to plant fear in our opponents--to remain focus and just bring it reminds me of another Philly great, Joe Frazier. Come to think of it, he looks a little like Frazier. Tough, tough kid!
Nate comes in for a lot of criticism on this board. But, here is a kid who understands that winning is all about consistently doing the little things, diving after a loose ball, giving up his body to receive the charge, even flailing his arm to deflect a rebound so as to keep it alive. Where I am from we call that being a leader and the glue of the team. Markel and DSR are simply the best duo we have had at Georgetown in quite some time. These guys know how to win basketball games under very challenging circumstances. Neither have been lighting it up from outside. However, they never let that bother them; they simply find other ways to get the job done.
Love this team!

A poorly officiated game is one thing, as is thinking they should get more calls, but I think Filo and I are talking about something different. Home cooking to me means that we got the benefit of calls in a way we wouldnt on the road, and in a much more unbalanced way. And, that it impacts the game. How many times do Starks and DSR drive the lane and get bailed out by a touch foul? Id argue it almost never happens. To be fair, part of the reason teams get more calls at home is because thousands of fans are amping up the pressure of the refs. Let's just say, we might not cause that same pressure Exactly. Maybe a couple of questionable calls in our favor, but it is rare for this team to ever catch those kinds of breaks from the refs. The crew that called last nights game(can't remember their names) have called several BE games that I have watched. They call the game closer to the old BE style of calling games. They let the bigs play inside unless there is a obvious foul and don't anticipate a foul just because player drives to the basket as many refs this year have been doing. It makes for a cleaner game and shorter game time wise. It was not a parade to the foul line for either team until the final minute. There were several calls that both teams had a legitimate grip about but can not say the calls favored the Hoyas. On several of Cotton's drives to the basket there was contact by a Hoya defender but it was incidental contact(did not affect his shooting ability or knock him off position). The same could have been said with several drives by Starks and DSR. I enjoyed the game not just because the Hoyas won but how the flow of the game allowed both teams to execute at their maximum, not burdened by phantom calls. I remember saying to myself as game progressed, that the Hoyas were playing good ball and if Cotton's heroics won the game, then it was nothing to be ashamed of. I hope this crew officiates several games in the BET and the Hoyas get them.

He hasn't done a bad job there but Cooley is probably anticipating some heat if they don't turn it around -- their record earlier in the season raised expectations. The talent shortfall is obvious after Cotton and Batts -- I didn't even notice the other guys in the second half. He has some job security by default -- PU has become a coaching graveyard, good luck replacing him with anyone better.

I really don't know where Cooley and the Providence fans are getting that from. At the game last night and watching it again today Providence got a lot more benefit of the doubt than we did. They had goal-tending calls go their way, got away with a lot of holding/grabbing on cuts and they were able to foul Markel/DSR on most of their drives to the hoop. On the other hand we got called for a lot of phantom fouls, including the and-one on DSR who was just standing in his spot when Batts made the follow-up layup off the Trawick turnover. we only shot 3 more free-throws than they did and that's with Providence intentionally fouling the last 2 minutes of the game. Before that they definitely got more trips to the line....

I hope this crew officiates several games in the BET and the Hoyas get them. You probably watched the exact right games then, because this was a pretty rare Big East officiating crew. It was Tony Greene, Roger Ayers, and Don Daily. Greene is arguably the most well-regarded active official in CBB; he's done a boatload of Final Fours (including last year's Nat'l Champ game...he missed the block/foul call on the Trey Burke-Peyton Siva dunk attempt) and he does Big East games a decent amount and has worked a bunch of GU games in recent years, but none this year until last night. Ayers is primarily an ACC ref, but he works BE 2nd or 3rd most probably; he hadn't worked one of our games this year until yesterday. Don Daily has worked two Big East games, like, ever...he worked one of our Puerto Rico games I think. Probably close to zero percent chance these three work at MSG in March; they'll more likely be at the SEC, ACC, and B12 tournaments respectively. In any case, with the amount of officials working ambitious scheduled in multiple conferences these days, IDK that there's such a thing any more as "old BE style" or any conference or region-specific style. (FWIW, the officiating last night was fine, as I think it's been every game since the Karl Hess uglyfest against Villanova. Ed Cooley was hot in the first half--there was a play when the officials no called something on a Providence drive that led to a fastbreak for us, and Trawick got slightly bumped with no call and either scored or it led to a deadball...had there been a foul on the bump, 100000000000% chance Cooley was getting T'd up.)

Translation: I don't like jtiiii. He's a horrible coach. You're sick...a horrible coach obviously you don't basketball..this man has adapted and keep his team in this race ...what games are you watching lmao Turn your sarcasm meter on, glide. Professor was suggesting that TJI was subtly criticizing JTIII by complaining that we kept fouling, therefore the coach must have failed to tell the team not to foul. It followed an earlier post by Professor along the same lines after TJI had made a different comment. Prof was not in any way calling JTIII horrible.

I don't know, he may just be trying to deflect some attention from his kids and their recent slide, and also keep their confidence from flatlining. He seems like a guy who would fight for his kids, so I'll give him a pass this time.
