Hard to see how Reggie could have played any worse than almost every guy on our squad tonight. Not even the token 3 minutes/1 shot try? Sadly, would not have hurt us last night.

Had to go pretty far back to find this thread.
I'm so happy for this kid. He didn't transfer, spent time working at his game and has shown over the early part of this season that he deserves to play and play in big situations. He is so much more active on defense and not just floating around - its like he's a whole different player. Was timid last year but now looks confident. The defensive intensity has translated to confidently working within the offensive system and making some big plays including from long range.
Congrats and keep proving everyone wrong!

I agree, Im extremely happy for him. I was thinking Domingo and Cameron were going to be the dead end boys haha. I guess he just had to see a few go down. I hope he has a great year, very impressed so far.

Reggie is going to be a critical bench piece this season. His shot is smooth, his defense is well improved, he fits smoothly in the offense. Could not feel better for this young man.

Rereading the last few pages of this thread, several posters don't look so good.

I know I've made plenty of comments in this thread though, to be honest, I didn't go back and read them. I've always sort of been in the camp of really liking Reggie's stroke (except when he sort of fades to the right which isn't always) but had limited expectations in terms of if he'd turn the corner in his own head or find a way to contribute defensively. I also thought he could have earned more minutes by being a guy that rebounds the ball well. While he's not all that tall or overtly strong, he pins his man and gets good position and pretty much has since day one. I never expected him to be as adept defensively as he's demonstrated so far this year.
It's been very easy to see the work he's put in on his conditioning and that was clear last year as well. It's great to see him putting it together. Not just because he's a Hoya and because it helps the team but he really seems like a team first guy and a guy that cheers hard for the success of his teammates as well. He didn't see many minutes last year and that must have sucked for him but it didn't seem to reduce his enthusiasm and involvement in his team and that, to me, says a lot about his character. The spin move today wasn't something I ever thought I'd see from him and it freaking great to see. It's a chicken/egg thing with playing time so I'm sure there will be the "if he had gotten more minutes earlier" we'd have gotten more of this iteration of Reggie. There may be validity to that but it's not something anyone can answer definitively. I didn't have an issue with his use/lack of use last year because he wasn't productive in his limited time. That said, what we can probably all agree on is that it's great to see him looking more confident and his work paying dividends for him and for his team. Great stuff, Mr. Cameron. Keep bringing it! There are few more enjoyable things in CBB than seeing a guy finding his depth and turning into a player. I hope Reggie continues on the path he's on. Great stuff.

I am so happy for Reggie. Keep it up!!! Having another 6'8" guy who can drill it is a huge benefit. Plus he has some experience and seems to know his role, etc. I am looking for a Don-Reid-esque last two years from Reggie.

And then continue to surprise everyone and go on to play 8 seasons in the nba!

Reggie knows the offense. He knows where to go and where to pass it. He's getting a lot of good opportunities right now because of it. He's one of the few players who seems to know what to do instinctually, which makes sense given the experience.

You can improve athleticism significantly. Technique, teamwork, positioning, footwork, etc., are all key parts of defense. It's not just quickness. I admit I had mentally written off Cameron. I was completely wrong. There will still likely be guys he can't check. But if you can play against Duke and Wisconsin, you can play.

I was completely wrong. There will still likely be guys he can't check. But if you can play against Duke and Wisconsin, you can play. Well stated, as usual, SF. Thankfully, we have the depth this year to have Reggie (and most of the other guys, for that matter) play in situations where he can succeed and even cause some matchup problems once the team gets a bit more healthy. But, to give him his due, he's performed really well even when the matchups haven't favored him and you'd likely have seen Paul in his place. Huge tip of the cap to him. I'm very happy for the success of most Hoyas (we all went there... you knew some folks you couldn't stomach) and it's fun to watch. I was in the Garden for the Johnnies game both his freshman and sophomore years and he sat almost the entire game in both cases. There were pockets of people right around me that obviously knew him from HS and were chirping during the entirety of both games about his lack of minutes. Those had to be really difficult experiences for him as they're nearly home town games for him being from Hackensack. It was nice to see it come full circle today and have him play well and get big minutes in the Garden 25 minutes from his home. I hope his family was in attendance. Good on him.

Definitely in the doubting camp and very happy he had such a great game.
One thing I notice is that he could stand to work on his passing. Mostly seems a focus issue. Not noticing the defender's position for shooting the passing lanes. But I think that's almost just a freshman style adjustment given his lack of minutes.
Hope he keeps shooting and playing great D and earning great minutes. If so, this should be an easy fix.

PS cant wait for the NEW reggie cameron to face that big east tourney MVP josh hart this year NEW YEAR NEW RESULTS COMING ill take reggie YUP He is so much better in every aspect of his game that it is like getting a new recruit for this season and next. His defense is really the area I see the most improvement and he plays like a leader out there, rather than a role player.

I have been anti-Cameron for awhile. I still get very nervous when he is in because of his D. I think he is getting ops because of White being out but I am happy for him that he is playing well and generally within the offense.
