Would not be surprised to see him develop into a solid player. Just was not going to happen at the end of the Hoya bench. Loved his enthusiasm during games.

Best of luck to him! Were we over the limit or do we have an extra scholarship now?

We should have one empty scholarship for 2013-2014 with Bolden departing.

Disappointing. Somehow Coach needs to figure out how to convince more bench players to stick around 4 years (like Bowen, Crawford), so that as Juniors and Seniors they are able to contribute solid minutes. Not sure Bolden would have ever gotten there, and maybe both he and the coaches realized it was a poor match, but would be nice to have a few more wily vets we can feel comfortable going to when our top guys need a blow or are in foul trouble.

It seemed when this kid wasn't getting run for his high school that the writing was on the wall. A bit surprised he ever came stuck to his commitment initially. The 11th & 12th guys are getting run but you hope to either have great developmental practice players with Junior/Senior year potential like Hayes/Domingo or solid walk-ons that can challenge the rotation guys. Good luck to the kid and I hope his academics were up to speed.

I guess we will never see how good he is or not now that he is gone.

Would not be at all surprised if he was encouraged to seek out other opportunities.

I mean he's 6'10 and came off the bench in high school for a team that wasn't great. He appeared to have a good attitude but ultimately I'm not sure how much he would've contributed. The team also for some reason took two developmental bigs in the same class, which to me seems like a mistake.

Wasn't Copeland originally '13? Didn't Domingo declare real late that he was forgoing his senior year of HS?

If true, Bolden would be the least productive recruit since Jason Burns (1999-00) and arguably one of the handful of scholarship players in Georgetown history never to have scored even a point in their Georgetown career.

There is also this Ben Standig @benstandig 17h Hearing Georgetown asst coach Mike Brennan 1 of 3 finalists for the @au_MBasketball job. Announcement expected on Tuesday. #Hoyas #AUeagles Ben Standig of CSN Washington reports that the three finalists for the job are UVa. assistant Jason Williford, former Ball St. coach Billy Taylor and Georgetown assistant Mike Brennan. Separately, I've heard that an announcement will be made tomorrow, but Williford has already made calls to assemble a staff. Don't know if this is presumptive or if he's already been given the job, but I'd bet the latter. auhoops.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generalFrom the AU board Ugh...

The team also for some reason took two developmental bigs in the same class, which to me seems like a mistake. I think it's easy now to say that taking 2 developmental bigs in the same class was a mistake. However, my view is the staff realized by the Spring of 2012 that Bolden was unlikely to be a contributor long-term, given his lack of production at the high school level after an early verbal commitment. The staff honored their commitment to him and likely told him what he needed to improve upon in order to contribute. At the same time, they didn't want to get stuck without any decent bigs in that recruiting class, so they took Bradley Hayes in the spring as another developmental guy. My guess is that they saw more from Hayes than they saw from Bolden up to that point. After neither played much in games this season, but after seeing them in practice for a full year, the staff probably told Bolden that he was unlikely to see much playing time very soon...which anybody could guess based on the players coming back and the addition of Josh Smith. Hayes is likely ahead of Bolden in the staff's eyes, and they probably told Bolden that. Bolden likely had the choice of sticking around and not playing for 4 years, or seeking other options with 3 years of eligibility left. All of this is on the up-and-up, the way I see it. If the staff made a mistake, it was in its evaluation of Bolden early on that led them to offer before the fall of his junior year. But again, that's hindsight, because at the time, Bolden was highly regarded by the talent scouts that write for Rivals/Scout/ESPN, etc. Seems like Bolden just didn't improve while lots of other guys caught up/surpassed him.

I love all Hoyas, even the ones who don't fit in and find better homes, but this guy listed Carmelo Anthony as his favorite player on his team profile. How are we supposed to make nice for a kid like that?

You never saw highlights or write-ups of the kid; that shoulda been a red flag. Anyway, moving forward, let's save it for '14 and get a PG then since little is left in '13. Now we can take a Robinson, Looney, Dev Robinson, another guard and a player.

Agree totally with hoyaboya. And I still think that a redshirt year for Hayes would be a good idea.
