JT III needs to convince Otto to come back and make a legitimate run as National POY in 2013-14, on a team that will have a changed attitude of playing each and every game loose with the maximum effort to win rather than tight and trying not to lose. A team energized by Otto that is looking to make plays instead of fearing to make errors can do what we are capable of physically but not psychologically in 2013.
There is not a team in America and that includes Indiana, Florida, Syracuse or Louisville that we cannot beat and next year. particularly with our new 7 footer from UCLA and if Greg W is back, we can be unstoppable as the Otto express.
JT III-please enlist the whole Georgetown family of Alonzo, Patrick et al to convince Otto to stay and go out on top of the world next year and redeem us from this nadir.

This draft is so weak. Pains me to say it, but we wasted what we had in Porter already. He'd be a fool to return.

Otto seems like a kid that would give this some consideration, but I hope he looks at what happened to Noel and acts appropriately and leaves. Of course we would all be overjoyed at his return, but that would be selfish, I would never advise him to come back in an honest and open discussion.

And if he were to come back, how do we take Cameron? Schollys always sort themselves out, sure, but if someone were to bail so Otto stayed, then we'd be that much more hard pressed to make room if another need arose.

I think there are a lot of recent Hoya's that would be better examples for Otto on how your life can change in an instant. Austin's diabetes, Jeff's heart condition, Chris' MS( also how unlikely and unfortunate are all these things to happen in a span of 3 years?). These could have all been career ending issues, though they all had a degree to fall back on. It would probably be more worthwhile to hear their perspectives on going versus staying. Based on Roy's twitter I suspect he was advising Otto on what to do this morning. He too would have an interesting perspective. At the end of the day I hope Otto does whatever is best for him. Either choice will be great for the program though so I'll be happy either way.

I know everyone wants to buy into this "if any player is going to stay, it'd be Otto" mentality, but it's not happening. Nor should it. Thompson has recruited all year like he knew Otto was gone. He's certainly not going to tell Otto to stay for selfish reasons, that's not his MO. Let's all just wish Otto well at the next level and move on.
Can we please lock any/all of these threads that pop up?

Otto should leave. Its like Jeff's situation. Its the best time to leave while his stock is pretty high. Wish him well for the what he gave to the program. He put the team on his back when Greg was out. He carried us the rest of the way with some heroic performances and playing substantial minutes.

He's gone. He'd be foolish to stay frankly.

Friday Otto showed why he needs to stay. The thing about skipping AAU and playing in a small school league that lacked Div I level competition, the thing that is so easy to forget based on how mature Otto plays, is that he has only been playing serious, high level games for 2 years. Mythical games against the men in Morley, MO are all well and good, but Otto doesn't consistently respond well when pressured by tough kids who would gut him to win, strong men whose animosity isn't tempered by blood relations. He needs more strength before he will be ready to play at the next level. He has or is developing all the skills, abilities and attributes, but he does not have a complete, NBA level game yet. He also has consistently expressed his desire to be the best and I am certain Otto would be the first to tell you we did not see his best at championship time this year. Say all you will about money, etc, I don't care. Not everyone makes all their life decisions based on the ability to get paid now.

Agree. Otto going pro now will actually benefit the program. Talented kids need to view the Hoyas as a career path to the NBA and nothing will do that as much as a lottery pick. Otto is not gaining anything by staying except a year of lost income.

I want to see Greg improve his shot and carry the torch next season.

Agree, by leaving, Otto is likely helping us for recruiting. We already read quotes from Isaac Copeland saying just as much.

Is this a sign of the Apocalypse? Nah, that's just "The Waking Dead" instead playing on the television behind me. ;D Get off the Internet, Jabril, and get in the gym.

and staying to win the Big East, win national POY and make a serious NCAA run would hurt us how?

And it would help more if Greg took on the Otto role next year and used that to get himself drafted in the first round.
