JT3's job is to give Otto advice on what's best for Otto. Not to convince him to stay. The whole premise of this thread is messed up.

correct and he told Roy to stay and Jeff to go. This year's draft is really weak on quality talent. Good year to come out if you have NBA talent.

If Otto stays just why are we going to win the Big Dance next year? There are no guarantees of anything. No guarantee that Otto plays better, that the Hoyas will be better etc etc and what not. If Otto has a good spot, he should take advantage of it. If it looks like people are cooling on him then maybe stay another year.

Coach will give Otto sound advice. Otto will decide what is most important to him. And either way we will dispute it. That is what we do!

III's advice to Otto will not be based on the quality of this year's draft, of that you can be sure.

At the end of the day I hope Otto does whatever is best for him. Either choice will be great for the program though so I'll be happy either way. This.

I sat next to a couple from Otto’s hometown who are avid basketball fans who graduated from Indiana last week at the B1G tourney. They said they casually know Otto’s parents and are next door neighbors to his uncle.. His parents are both educators This couple seemed to think that his family would want him to stay in school. They also said that you can’t watch the local news this year without something being said about Otto. Both his parents were basketball stars and they graduated from college. Thanks for the teaser! When's final decision date this year?

I think April 28 is the deadline for Early Entry? Others probably know better than I, but that's what I read on the never wrong Internet.
There is a withdrawal date in June too, but let's not kid ourselves. There's no "testing the waters" with Otto. He's either going or staying.

My understand is that the rules have changed, and one cannot enter the draft and pull out at the last minute, like many people had done in the past. Unless the rules have changed yet again, if Otto declares, he cannot come back.

If Otto comes back, he is going to face the double and triple teams that he faced at the end of this year. Who would want to do that and how does that prepare him for the NBA where he will never have to face that as a wing player.

When Otto leave's it certainly won't be because he is afraid of college defense. He won't have to face double or triple teams in the NBA but that's because one guy can guard you better at that level than two or three in college.

If I were advising Otto, I would tell him to leave, because I think it makes the most sense. That said, I think one huge difference next year would be the presence of Josh Smith. If Smith is a scoring threat from the post, I think that would open things up a lot more for Porter. Having two lethal scoring threats on the floor at the same time would really help both Porter and Smith's game. No doubt, one of the reasons why Hibbert's performance declined in 2008 (it was still great, just not as good as 2007) was because Green wasn't on the floor with him.

There are valid points on both sides of the issue but it seems that the reasons for leaving far outweigh the reasons for staying. I think the strongest reason for going is the parallel to Jeff when he left. His stock is sky high right now (assuming the last few games did not hurt that stock too badly) and there are no guarantees that he would go as high in the draft next year.

And he'd have GW, hopefully, next to him.

Maybe he wants to stay because he wants to mature more physically and emotionally. After all, he is still just a 19 yr old kid from a small town. Perhaps he really likes being a student and basketball player at an excellent university. If he stays, he'll be a yr closer to his degree. He may want to bet on himself, that whatever opportunities that are there now will be there a yr from now, and he will be more prepared, even if his draft position slips somewhat. But if he goes, as is likely, who can blame him? Certainly not me. But, selfishly, I hope he stays.

All the best to Otto. I hope the Wiz get him. Pistons would be cool too. The Hoyas will be loaded next year w/o Otto, if Greg returns.

He's gone. All the potential lottery picks saw what happened to Nerlen Noels. Otto had a little bit of a scare in one of the later games this season when a guy whose shot he blocked landed on the back of his knee. Can't remember which game it was, maybe Rutgers or St. Johns.
I wouldn't want him to come back. What's best for him is going to the NBA.
