Yeah, agreed. If you believe in jinxes, I think this all needs to be tabled until the last 2-3 games of the season when we will know if we are competing for a league title.
There is only one thing I can predict with certainty. And that is BD's predictions, however well reasoned, will be wrong because they don't account for any shocking losses, which will happen.
To wit, SJU is now beating Louisville at Louisville in the second half.
Stuff happens. And that includes to the Hoyas (See, USF). To say Rutgers and DePaul are gimmes is a scary statement. Nothing is a given this time of year.

I believe 2nd tie breaker is record against #1, then #2...until it is settled.
If there are 3 teams at 13-5 then it would be record against the mini-conference.

I echo the sentiment that calling anything a gimme is risky business. And I also agree that there is way too much bball left to be played to really start weighing possible outcomes for the league. But it's certainly fun to play the speculation game.
I think we are definitely good enough to beat Cinci, Villanova, and UConn on the road. Am I saying we will? Absolutely not. But I think we can all agree that we are the better team in all these matchups and I think our guys have shown they are capable of playing extremely well away from home. So I would expect to win those games. Depaul and Rutgers are both at home. Losing either one would be slightly more than disheartening. Syracuse at the Dome is a long shot. And I think it's a distinct possibility they beat us at home too, but I think everyone even remotely associated with Georgetown hoops wants to win this game so badly that I give us the edge at home.
So I think we have a better shot at going 14-4 and actually winning the conference than the OP. But I also think it's more likely we lose one of those other road games and finish 13-5. I am confident going into the game tomorrow but @cuse and @uconn back to back is going to be pretty tough. I could definitely see 0-2 there. And I'm not saying I wouldn't be elated to go 4-3 and finish 12-6 with a pretty good shot at the top 4, but to me it would feel like we lost a game somewhere that we probably (or definitely) should have won. KenPom says we go 3-4 and frankly I'd be a little disappointed to finish that way, but 11-7 would still be a great season nonetheless.
But right now we are tied for first with our arch rival (if not for one REALLY bad half we'd be leading outright) and there is no denying that we have a legitimate shot at winning the conference. But in the last year of BE membership for Cuse and Pitt it looks like it's going to be one of the tightest races in recent memory and I for one am pretty freakin excited.

We've lost two extremely close games that could have gone either way. Could be 10-1 in the BE but regardless we are in a great position and the team seems to be peaking at the right time--as opposed to some of our recent seasons.

These guys have exceeded all expectations to such a degree that I have no idea what realistic expectations are any longer. I agree with what johnny wrote essentially. I wouldn't be shocked to lose any of the tougher games but I still think each of them is winnable. Realism is overrated anyway.

bad record of 12-6 would be still darn good. ALL games up for grabs watch depaul and usf in there never know. NEED TO BE READY ANY GAME To play for forty minutes or more starting TONITE. win one by one by at least one and you never know need to keep our toughness and our consistancy up and will be fine. if that lapses NOT good. but its feburary hoya time so lets GET IT DONE. wright now. if they play well still think cuse and ville ones to beat AND OUR HOYAS. JUST SAYING.

bad record of 12-6 would be still darn good. You can say that in the abstract, but to get to 12-6 would mean dropping three games, which would mean that one of our next seven games will be a real heartbreaker. I don't want to lose that third game.

It is interesting that this year's record is identical to last year 18-4 (8-3) at this point. Last year GU went 4-3 for the remainder of the season (1-3 away and 3-0 home). GU lost to Cinn in the BE tournament (overtime). Cinn then lost to Louisville in the BE final. (Louisville came out of nowhere to win the BE Tournament and go to the final 4 after a 10-8 regular season.) 12-6 is probably a realistic outcome considering the difficult schedule of 4 tough road games facing GU.

Can we PLEASE just focus on the Bearcats tonight. That should be enough to do. You only play them one at a time, so you can only win them one at a time. Let everyone else worry about their own schedules. Just BEAT THE ÇATS!!!

So the Hoyas' road to 14-4 or 13-5 just got a bit easier. Let's watch the dominoes fall this weekend and Monday, and we can revisit this thread as the Hoyas focus on taking care of business against DePaul.

Per this mornings Pomeroy, Hoyas up to 21 in the nation, 5th on defense.
Projected Big East wins:
Pitt 13.20 Syracuse 13.13 Louisville 13.05 Hoyas 12.47 Marquette 11.85 UConn 11.29 ND 10.14 Cinn. 9.70 St. Johns 8.85 Nova 8.69 Prov. 8.11 Rutgers 5.86 Hall 3.89 De Paul 2.54 SFla 2.23
Pitt at Marquette today is a critical game for our Big East Championship hopes as Pitt will be an overwhelming favorite to win the rest of its games. We need a Marquette win.
Obviously we lose a tiebreaker to Pitt, own the tiebreaker against Louisville and control our own destiny vs. Syracuse.

Obviously we lose a tiebreaker to Pitt, own the tiebreaker against Louisville and control our own destiny vs. Syracuse. Right. For purposes of winning the conference, we want Marquette to win. But for purposes of getting a top 4 seed and double bye, I think we want Pitt to win, since we lose all tiebreakers with them. Kick them upstairs into the top 3 and we'll take our chances with Marquette for 4th. So who you root for depends on how delusional you feel...

Beating Cinci already broke kenpom predictions, since I assume he had us losing to them. I agree with others that 13-5 and 12-6 is going to be the top of the table. I don't see anyone dominant enough to win 6 of 7 to win this league. I think we have the best shot by our track record since we have won 2 very good road games.

Pitt winning today would be very impressive given Marquette's long winning streak at home. I will be prepared to see a 14-4 finish from the Panthers if they pull it out today, which means we'd need to run the table to take the title.

Does Pomeroy weigh more recent results more heavily in his rankings?

Pre game interview with Cronin. He calls Otto the best all around player in the BE, also goes into depth about the matchup problems he causes and how a lot of teams simply do not have someone to guard him.. A good listen and it goes without saying Cronin knows his chit.. cincinnati.247sports.com/Article/Video-Cronin-Previews-Georgetown-116727Looking forward the only team having someone who can guard Otto is Cuse with Fair and Grant. Unfortunately for them and fortunate for us they play zone where Otto in the middle is going to be a problem.. We got the best player on the court guys, we can do this chit..
