Good to hear that Providence is stepping up their game. I'm excited to have Cooley turn them into an NCAA team and a perpetual contender for second place in the Big East (behind, of course, Georgetown).

Seton Hall getting a good recruiting class (finally) is also encouraging. I don't know how DePaul is doing as that is the other cellar dweller that needs to step up its game. I don't really worry about the Xavier, Marquette, Nova schools as they will always be solid. It is our bottom two or three that need to get it going so the conference is strong top to bottom.

This is good news because we need some of the weak teams of the recent past (St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul) to step up because they are 40% of the new league (or 33% if the conference expands to 12 teams). We can afford to have one or two bottom-feeders, but we need the rest to step up. Ideally, you want 6 or 7 teams capable of making the NCAA tournament on a fairly regular basis.
Obvously, you're probably not going to get more than 5 Big East teams in the NCAA, at most, but having 6-7 teams that are competitive guarantees that even when a team like Georgetown or Marquette has a down season, that others can pick up the slack and keep the conference relevant.
