I understand kids wanting to keep their options open, but if you know where you wanna go...then commit and get it over with. Maybe he doesn't know.

insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecruitingon-the-trail/post/_/id/5587/notebook-rising-pg-likes-cardinalBentil seizing opportunity The film “Dead Poets Society” was shot on the grounds of St. Andrews High School in Middletown, Del. This fall, the school that made “carpe diem” a household phrase will ask its top basketball recruit, Ben Bentil, to seize the day. Vying for the ESPN 100 power forward’s services are Georgetown, Miami, Providence, Temple, St. Joe’s, Xavier and Rutgers.
Things are escalating quickly for Bentil. He visits Miami Sept. 12-15 and then shuffles up to Georgetown Sept. 20-21. Expect another shedding of schools before he sets more official visits.

www.givengobasketball.com/ben-bentil-articleHe also described the overall recruitment process for him right now. "I really like the way the process has gone so far," he told GNGB. "I like the schools that are involved and I am blessed to have the amount of schools that are recruiting me." He doesn't have a set list of schools yet but, he did mention some programs that are after him. He mentioned Georgetown, Miami, Providence, St. Joseph's, Temple, and Cincinnati. He says he plans on visiting three schools as of now. "I’m going to visit Georgetown, Providence, and Miami," Bentil said. "I will visit Georgetown and Providence in the near future. I’m going to Miami on September 12th." He doesn't necessarily have any favorites yet but, some schools are standing out. "I’m not really sure," he said. "I think everyone is about even but, Georgetown went to all of my high school games and Miami went to a lot of my games." At the same time Bentil is still open with his recruitment and isn't sure if or when he will cut down his list of schools. "Well I’m open right now," said Ben Bentil. "I’m just going to take it in stride. You never know because if you cut your list someone else may offer you. I’ll probably cut it down before or after my high school season." He has no idea when he will make his decision. "I honestly have no idea," he said. "As of right now I plan on putting a lot of emphasis on my academics and the recruitment process will take care of itself."

Sounds like a nice kid with well-balanced priorities, but possibly a little too "go with the flow" for someone that you hope will be a hungry competitor?
Just seems to have too hands-off an approach to a decision that will have a large impact on his life. Getting too much of a "basketball doesn't matter to me" whiff from the articles I've read. Anyone else feeling that?

Seems like someone else is handling his process. Seems like we're in really good shape with him.

Does not seem to be moving on any faster pace than Paul White. Not certain why some thought he was ready to commit soon.

Anyone else feeling that? I think you're reading way too much into it.. I'd bet my house Ben knows exactly what's going on with his recruiting.. Honestly I'd rather have kids take their time and be sure when they commit to a school.. I read this article from 2011 on him awhile back and even then he was being advised not to talk too much about recruiting.. www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2011_0712/class-of-2014-intro-ben-bentil/CLASS OF 2014 INTRO: BEN BENTIL July 12, 2011 by NBE Blogger · Leave a Comment By Matt Whitfield Running around at the Hoop Group Elite Team Camp this past Friday afternoon, an assistant coach with an Atlantic 10 school stopped me and said ‘do you know who this is’. I said I didn’t and the coach said ‘you’re going to thank me one day for telling you about this kid.’ That ‘kid’ is 6-foot-8 rising sophomore (Class of 2014) incoming sophomore Ben Bentil, formerly of Ghana. “A lot of colleges [have called thus far], but they said I shouldn’t talk about it because I don’t really need to worry about it right now,” said Bentil.
Bentil describes himself as a defensive player, but his coach describes him as a jack-of-all-trades on the basketball court. “I describe myself as more of a defensive player, but my coach calls me a utility player because I do a little bit of everything,” said Bentil. “I rebound, I score, I post up, I face up, I do everything.” Bentil listed a few schools from the Big East that have shown him interest.
His HS/AAU coach is helping him deal with the recruiting process

But Timeline wise I don’t think he’s any closer to committing than Paul White TBH I don’t see White making all 5 officials I bet he goes to AZ and if he does not commit there he comes here and then chooses between us and AZ. I doubt he ends up at Depaul or Minnesota.. Uconn supposedly has been wrking hard so maybe they get a visit 2 but I doubt he takes all 5..
Fyi According to ChicagoHoops.com, White will take the following visits: Arizona (Sept. 6-8), Georgetown (Sept. 12-16), UConn (Sept. 27-29), Minnesota (Oct. 4-6 ) and DePaul (Oct. 25-27

Evan Daniels @evandanielsfox 6m Abdul Malik Abu and Jared Terrell are announcing their college choices on September 7th at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Abu is considered to be a pretty heavy Providence lean which should close the door on Ben with them..
I think that's a good thing for G'town..

I did read where Jerry Meyer predicted URI but I just don't see it.. As far as Abu I can see why Florida is making a hard push cause they are on the outside looking in for Looney, Lyles & Alexander. I think in the end Cooley gets both of them..

Here's another article on Ben from early August.. Basically the same old story but he does talk about how his mom & Coach are handling his recruitment www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2013_0802/catching-up-with-ben-bentil/Ben Bentil of St. Andrew’s (DE) is a player who is not particularly focused on his recruitment. The class of 2014 power forward, originally from Ghana, lets a couple people close to him handle much of that that aspect of his life. “I kind of don’t know . . . I don’t pay much attention to that,” Bentil said while at Live In AC of who has offered him. “I pay more attention to my academics, so whatever it is with college stuff is up to [St. Andrew’s coach Terrell Myers] and my mom.” ( I'm glad I didn't bet my house. haha)
Location will not be a factor in Bentil’s recruitment and he does not yet have a timetable for a commitment. “I don’t know. It’s all up to my mother,” Bentil explained. “I got to talk to her first and I don’t want to commit basically [just because] of basketball. I just want to commit [because] of looking at the academic stuff. I’m still unsure, I wanted to major in business management, but I’m still kind of unsure if I want to do that.”
Bentil, who said he has a 3.4 GPA, went on to explain why business management is a major that appeals to him. Can't say it enough how much I hope the staff can pull this kid.. I know he's not a program changer but I do feel he'll be a very good glue guy/productive college player..

Evan Daniels @evandanielsfox 53s Abdul Malik Abu informed Scout.com that he has committed to North Carolina State. He's ranked No. 51 overall in the 2014 class. Cooley will probably try to turn up the heat on Bentil now...
