Otto is, as GPHoya put it to me, the guy with all the moves in the pickup game whose team always wins.
Games at the RAC are rarely pretty and you really have to earn wins there. The Hoyas earned that one.

They manhandled us on the O boards, we had serious foul trouble, we played in a tough place, etc. etc. But we still came away with the win. Gutty performance! Good job, Hoyas!

This is a type of game the team loses in the past. Not to say they won't have a letdown te rest of the way, but this team has a toughness that other JT III teams did not have!

This was a great game to grow from. I have attended a few games at the RAC and it is always tought to play there and today was no different. Every time Rutgers hit a three the place got loud. It is a great environment for a basketball game.
For those of you watching at home were the blocking calls on Nate and Moses close to correct? From where I was sitting they were easy charge calls.

YES! DSR passes up 3/4 good looks every game. He can be more assertive than he has been. He is the 2nd best offensive player on this team. I want him play like it. No doubt he has to stay aggressive but Harlem did you 4get Starks an Porter play on this team? Plus he makes up for it by taking a couple ill advised ones a game to compensate…lol

Defensive rebounding, normally a strength for us, was a huge problem in the second half. 25 second half boards, and they got 15 of them. That's awful. We were just as strong on the offensive end (5 of 9), but it helped them a lot more because we were making shots and they weren't.
Inside the arc in the second half: 13-20. That, cutting down on the turnovers after some struggles the first half, and good late free throw shooting won the game.

Hopefully Trawick is okay. Seemed to be walking with a little limp after the game but did not look to be in pain.

Hopefully Trawick is okay. Seemed to be walking with a little limp after the game but did not look to be in pain. I was sitting by that end of the court and it looked like he was grabbing his right quad. I hope it was just a cramp.

Judge planted a firm knee in Jabril's thigh. Yeah, looked the same to me. Think he got a knee right in the muscle. He'll be fine. Nice to get the win in a game that was eminently losable. Hopkins was much better offensively, but had a really bad game on the boards. He doesn't box out well enough, and doesn't time his jump. He had that crucial rebound, but we only got that because the ball took an extra bounce off the rim. If not, Carter tips that in and we still have to come back down and hit our FTs. But that's not to single him out. Moses was equally bad on the boards, and everyone had a poor game boxing out on the weakside, including Otto. We were very lucky to get out of there with the win, and had things shaded a little differently, the board would be melting down right now. Now, if Nate had been allowed to play, we probably would have done a bit better of a job on the glass. And, that being said, 7-3 is a great start to conference play, especially given the 0-2 start. The team seems to have an identity, and we're doing a much better job of getting the right people shots. Getting a win against Marquette would be huge.

We were doing fine on the defensive boards until the last ten minutes or so when they started beating on us. Not sure what happened there. Also felt like we were showing them too many zone looks.
Anyway, lotta stuff went wrong today, like some unconscious shooting from Carter and Nate's foul troubles and we still got it done. Big big props to Otto who yet again was the best player on the court. This stretch of his since Whitt went out is as good as I've seen from a Hoya under JT3. Doing it on both ends and in so many ways. The and-1 shot was ridiculous, off of a great feed from Starks. I'm not sure if that was a designed play, but it sure looked like it.

ESPN D-team commentators and those refs should be embarrassed. Good win in a hostile environment. Ding.

Otto & Hops totally deserve the praise they are getting today. Otto was rebounding and passing well even when he was't getting/making shots. But let's not take Markel for granted: we're seeing a kid mature into an incredibly steady player. Sometimes he plays so well in the flow of the game that we don't even notice.
Rutgers stayed in it by consistently beating us to the glass (Nate's absence had a lot to do with that), by shooting well from the outside (did we make a single 3 in the second half?), and the foul disparity. A couple of Jabril's fouls were really dumb. I'm not sure how you take a guy that tough and determined and coach him out of those without taking away his strengths.
Great road win in a place where, as others have noted, it's very tough to play.
Wise Rice is annoying. I think it's the hyperactivity.
