I say play the freshmen AND expand the bench via Bowen, Cameron, and Hayes. These are the present average minutes played per game (freshmen are in CAPS): Smith-Rivera 33.3 PEAK 26.7 Trawick 26.1 Hopkins 23.3 Smith 22.2 WHITE 18.9 COPELAND 16.9 Bowen 15.9 CAMPBELL 13.5 Cameron 5.3 Hayes 3.9 MOURNING 2.3 Allen 2.1 Williams 1.1 How many more minutes do you want to play Bowen? Whose minutes do you reduce to accommodate Bowen's additional minutes? Same question as for additional playing time for White, Copeland and Campbell; who sits? What has Cameron done this season to justify additional minutes? And Hayes? Really??? Yes, I'd like to see more production from Hopkins, especially in games where the D isn't there. I'd like to see Trawick be willing to become more of a factor with outside shots to open up the interior. I'd like to see the ball get inside to Smith more crisply, and in a position where he can get to the basket more strongly. I'd also like to have a full head of hair and 20/20 eyesight without progressive corrective lenses. Some things are just not going to happen. What we need is more productive minutes from the freshmen when they are playing, and better defense from them when they are playing. They are getting plenty of time on the court, but we've seen diminishing returns. Without more production, expanding the bench probably puts the Hoyas in a deeper hole.

I would not play Williams, Allen, or Mourning at all for the rest of the year, barring complete emergency.
I would try to get Hayes 3-5 minutes in most games (consistent with the numbers above).
I would try to get Cameron about 5 minutes a game (consistent with the numbers above).
I would like to see Bowen get a consistent 16-20 minutes a game. That is very close to the average listed above, and could be achieved by taking a minute or two here and there from someone like LJ.
Thus, using the numbers above, it would not be necessary to take away any minutes to see all of those guys get some run. If you had the numbers from Big East play, that would be a different story, and I would be happy to review those and respond.

What you have to remember or take into account is that these averages are just for the games the player has appeared in.. Cameron &Hayes have a lot of DNP's which doesn't against their mpg average.. Hayes has played 43 minutes this year in 11 games which gives him his 3.9 average..

Ask and ye shall receive. Here are the numbers for Big East Conference play:
Smith-Rivera: 35.1 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 43 minutes at Marquette; low- 26 minutes at Xavier; 35.8 minutes per game over the last five games.
Peak: 26.4 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 38 minutes at Providence; low- 5 minutes at Marquette; 18.6 minutes per game over the last five games.
Trawick: 26.1 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 31 minutes at Providence; low- 10 minutes at Marquette; 23.8 minutes per game over the last five games.
Hopkins: 23.8 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 30 minutes at Xavier; low- 14 minutes vs. Creighton; 24.4 minutes per game over the past five games.
Smith: 22.2 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 31 minutes at Marquette; low- 14 minutes at Creighton; 22.4 minutes per game over the past five games.
Copeland: 19.3 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 39 minutes at Marquette; low- 7 minutes at Xavier and vs. Marquette; 25.6 minutes per game over the past five games.
White: 16.8 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 33 minutes at Providence; low- 5 minutes vs. Butler; 14.4 minutes per game over the past five games.
Bowen: 14.4 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 23 minutes vs. Butler and at Marquette; low- 5 minutes vs. Marquette; 14.8 minutes per game over the past five games.
Campbell: 15.9 minutes per game for all BE games; high- 28 minutes at Marquette; low- 2 minutes vs. Villanova; 21.8 minutes per game over the past five games.
Cameron: 2.1 minutes per game for all BE games; 2.8 minutes per game for all nine BE games in which he played; high- 4 minutes vs. Butler and at Marquette; low- DNP at Providence, at DePaul and vs. Xavier; 2.2 minutes per game over the past five games.
Hayes: 1.6 minutes per game for all BE games; 3.8 minutes per game for all five BE games in which he played; high- 8 minutes vs. Creighton; low- DNP vs. Marquette, at DePaul, vs. Butler, at Marquette, vs. Xavier, vs. Providence and at Villanova.
Williams: 0.3 minutes per game for all BE games; 1.0 minute per game for all three BE games in which he played; high- 2 minutes at Creighton; low- DNP at Xavier, vs. Marquette, at Providence, at DePaul, vs. Butler, at Marquette, vs. Xavier, vs. Providence and at Villanova.
Allen: 0.3 minutes per game for all BE games; 1.3 minutes per game for all three BE games in which he played; high- 2 minutes at Creighton; low- DNP at Xavier, vs. Creighton, vs. Marquette, at Providence, at DePaul, vs. Butler, at Marquette, vs. Xavier and vs. Providence.
Trends disclosed:
1. Peak's minutes have decreased since he was injured at Marquette; prior to that game, he was averaging 32.0 minutes per game, and had been under thirty minutes in only the game vs. Butler. Is this playing-time reduction a result of his ankle injury in the Marquette game (that is, is he still hurt), a result of decreasing productivity, or a combination of the two?
2. DSR's "uptick" in minutes played is due to a 43 minute effort in the overtime game at Marquette; he's only played 33 and 31 minutes in the last two games.
3. Copeland's minutes are rising, and White's minutes are sliding. Not all of Copeland's increased minutes are at the expense of White; some appear to have come from Trawick (likely due to his injury in the Marquette game when Peak was injured).
4. Cameron is getting a little run of a few minutes, but comes out quickly.
5. Bowen's minutes over the past five games have actually come down; like with DSR, his minutes are inflated due to the five minute overtime game at Marquette. In his last four games he has only played 13, 11, 10 and 17 minutes.

Thanks, NJ!
I think everyone agrees Cameron and Hayes should have limited roles, at best. With Smith still having so many foul issues, I still wonder if a minute here or there for Hayes could make a difference. When Smith has one foul with a minute to go in the first half- heck, even at a dead ball at 16:45 whether he has a foul or not yet- I find myself wanting Hayes to go in briefly and see Smith come back in after the half or timeout.
As for Cameron, I still believe that he is a very solid player who can help the team, and I want him to keep getting a chance so he will not just get stuck at the end of the bench. I think that we may really need him for a game or two and want him to stay at least somewhat in the rotation.

Stats vs. St. Johns
17 mins., 8pts, 3/5 FG's, 2/3 3pt FG's, 1 Reb., 1 Assts., 2 T.O.'s
The positive news is that Aaron Bowen was 3rd in scoring behind DSR 29, and Mikael Hopkins 10 and was 2/3 from the 3pt. line.

You forgot the 0-2 from the line. Both were the front end of 1 and 1s too. We know what we will get from Bowen. This time, the 3s were a nice suprise. He got probably 5+ more minutes then usual because Copeland, White, and Peak all didn't play well.

What this team needs is someone whos not named DSR to extend the defense and knock down some threes or mid range jumpers.

Aaron seems to be a nice guy, but if we are depending on him to knock down some threes or mid range jumpers then this team will not win much. His outside shot has not gotten better in 5 years. His free throw shooting is below average. He is a very good at finishing and attacking the rim. An outside shooter, not so much.

Forget the offense his defense has regressed. He is still lost in the zone we played against STj. Going to the small lineup didn't work. Could someone explain to me why Bowen is flashing to the foul line in our zone offense the one player with the worst hands and perhaps the worst ball handling and passing skills. Give DSR credit for one of his scores along the baseline he drew 2 defenders and gave Bowen an open path to the hoop.
