ESPN (Insider) on Otto: "Outstanding" is a superlative -- but it's not the only one. "Most essential" is another. So too is "most important," or "most vital." And even if Oladipo does deserve the Wooden Award, the more I see of Georgetown star Otto Porter Jr., the more I'm convinced that the sophomore has earned all those other superlatives.
Anyone who saw the 6-foot-8 Porter single-handedly destroy Syracuse in the Carrier Dome with his 33-point explosion is aware of what he can do. And given that the Hoyas won that game against the Orange 57-46, it's not a reach to say that a star who scored 58 percent of Georgetown's points that day is absolutely and perhaps even uniquely essential to his team.
Porter's remarkable season -- one that has the NBA counting the days until the draft -- needs to be seen in the context of his team. And the context of Georgetown, at the risk of oversimplifying, is that the Hoyas don't have a Cody Zeller to Porter's Oladipo. There is no player in Division I whose loss would be more devastating to his team. insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9022152/why-otto-porter-jr-irreplaceable-georgetown-college-basketball

That's nuts if true. Good article. If you click on the link that is attached to "cast my vote" in the article it takes you to a write up from Feb 21 on Oladipo. I don't think he literally means he cast official vote, just that he said Oladipo deserved it and now he is changing his mind?

Although he wasn't here very long -- just two seasons -- I am extremely appreciative of former assistant coach Robert Kirby and the key role he played in our recruitment of Otto. I guess it goes without saying that were it not for Kirby and his connection to Otto's family -- Otto never played AAU ball nor did attend any of the shoe company camps -- we likely wouldn't have had a shot at getting Otto to come to Georgetown. Off that alone, Kirby was a great hire by JT III! This. The Hoyas had no shot at this kid if it wasn't for Kirby. Which maked III's earlier hiring of Kirby all the more important. Like a gift from above. And considering how often III has finsihed second or third in the recruiting game for various elite players, Otto picking GU feels like a perfect reward for III's efforts.

With the extra $$ we are going to be getting from the Fox deal - can we lure Kirby back?? ;D

I love oladipo, I think he is a hell of a player, but he is not wooden award worthy. Keep in mind this is coming from one of oladipo's biggest fans. The only two players who should be in consideration for national player of the year are otto and trey burke. Oladipo is an amazing defensive player and a solid rebounder as well as an improved offensive player. But where was he last night? where was he in crunch time against minnesota? I am sick and tired about hearing how many people think oladipo deserves the award. It is for the best player in the nation; and in my mind it's either burke or otto. Otto and burke have no flaws. Both are capable of taking over a game offensively (which I have yet to see oladipo do). Not only has otto taken over games in crunch time, but he plays with a smaller supporting cast. The way I look at it is this. If Oladipo was on Georgetown could he be doing what Otto is, and the answer is definitely no. If otto was on indiana instead of oladipo would they be better. I would say yes. Offensively at least.
