Do you think Otto is better than Jeff (as a junior)? Jeff didn't get much pub for poy but that was the year of oden and Durant. That's a tough call. I'd say they're fairly comparable. Tournament results matter. As a result, slight edge to Jeff as of right now.

I kid, I kid. Just repeating the media storyline ;D

Just repeating the media storyline ;D Otto isn't carrying the team but he also doesn't have a Roy Hibbert to defray some of the defensive attention. But this year you have Starks who has quietly carried a big load this year and DSR contributing when D's concentrate too much on Otto. Very different teams and Otto and Jeff aren't all that similar either. Both guys are/were incredibly valuable to their respective team and, many nights, as Otto/Jeff goes, so go the Hoyas. It's a fun discussion about two great college players.

Just repeating the media storyline ;D It is a tired storyline but Jeff did have a teammate in Roy who was also First Team All Big East that season (not to mention an actual candidate for POY himself going into that game at Villanova).

I feel like he is just now realzing and playing like he is the best player on the court. His confidence was evident tonight and I don't think I've ever seen him really put the team on his back and refuse to lose like he did tonight.

So many plays to point out tonight, but that penetration, fake and under the rim lay-up move was special... well, that block too...

Text message from a friend who is a Michigan State grad and runs the youth basketball league in our town:
"I never heard of Porter until about a month ago and now I can't watch him enough."

i remember watching otto in his first 2-3 games as a frosh and thinking, man, this kid is wise beyond his years. though he wasnt as assertive then, he just always seemed to make the right decision, arrive at 50-50 balls before anyone, slow down/speed up when advisable ... his positioning and timing were clearly impeccable; so strong as to make up for his (perhaps) just below elite athleticism. those aptitudes have come full circle now, and he's just dominant. i've never seen a player so consistently make the right decision at this level. he never rushes ANYTHING. so calm, cool, collected. in otto i trust.

Agreed. Kid is incredible and always in the moment. Before I even knew what was happening on that last possession of the nova game...he was driving down the lane and winning the game for us.

I know the feeling. I started a 'Otto Porter' thread early last year with the comments that Otto would be special when I realized it.. i went back to find it to see exactly what I said. Unfortunately, I had some ID and password issues that DFW helped me with at that time and now I cannot find the thread! I must have used a different ID that I created when I was locked out. Bummer.

I think we should withhold defining his place in our history until after we see what his teams accomplish before he leaves.
By the way, one more year! I hope we hear it all game long on Saturday.

So, I just looked this up, but correct me if I'm wrong--not only is Patrick Ewing the only national player of the year to play at Georgetown, he's the only winner to come from the Big East.

I hope we don't. I'm actually getting to the point where I'll be upset if he comes back next season. He'll be a Top-5 pick in the draft, and like Jeff, he can always come back to get his degree.
