Except for finishing at the rim, DSR had a very nice game. Handled the ball well, passed it well, rebounded well, played defense well -- he showed he is more than just a scorer.

I think DSR really stepped it up today, and I think he is one of the reasons the offense worked better. Obviously, his performance was not flawless, but he did a lot of good things that contributed to the win. DSR deserves his playing time and he should be seeing quality minutes in the future. I really think he's important for our offensive flow and needs to be in the rotation. One of the best things about DSR is that he's in control and seems to make good decisions. He rarely turns the ball over, and he doesn't make erratic or aggressive plays. He did miss a few relatively easy shots, but still, those shots showed that he could drive to the basket, something we've had a lot of trouble with this year. DSR also rebounded quite well. Given his size, this is a nice added bonus on defense.

First in offensive rebounds. Second in rebounds. First in assists. Got past the first guy constantly. Second in steals.
He got intimidated by Obekpa and the other shot blockers, but once he figures out how to finish at the college level, he's going to be pretty good.

He definitely stepped up his effort on D today and that was great to see. A couple of freshman mistakes but that's to be expected. Coach seems to be on top of him with regard to those mistakes which may mean that he expects even more from DSR than he got today which has to be a good thing. There was one play where DSR wanted a foul and didn't get it and proceeded to jog back up the court and JT3 pulled him immediately. To DSR's credit, I didn't see another play like that out of him for the rest of the game. By far his best all around game to date. Much improved effort and effectiveness on the defensive end.
Unrelatedly, the Johnnies looked horrible today. I was watching them passing around the perimeter then finally take a shot they could have gotten in the first 10 of the shot clock. I know what that must've felt like for Johnnies fans. As a Hoya fan, I have empathy in that regard. Our guys spaced the floor and moved the ball well today. Bowen and Moses looked much more comfortable... especially Aaron. Minutes for those two will hopefully become more consistent and, with any luck, pay dividends for this squad. Nice job today Hoyas! Thanks for making my trip home from MSG a nice one!

stretches the bench out to at least ten once GW returns. I would pull hop, slide nate to the 5 (ugh!), Otto to the 4, Greg to the 3, Brilly and Kels in the backcourt moving forward.

The talk of Hopkins' struggles seem to be the most prevalent topic on here now. What about Jabril's case that he's making for him pushing others out of the rotation? Mikael is being asked to do more than is realistic to expect but Trawick is making a lot of his minutes. Against more physical teams, I think we have to put Moses on the floor and Jabril too. The starting five needs to be adapted to the opponent on that day. Nate at the five against a physical team is a disaster. You can do that against the Johnnies who have no size and no outside shooting. That's a rare case.

Given III's history, I would expect Hop to continue to start, but to play fewer mins/possessions going fwd, unless the quality of his play improves. I actually believe that Hop may start to play more effectively. The light may yet come on this season. Like the fact the III continues to encourage and support him, while giving time to others. DSR can really help us if he continues to improve as he gets more time, and, most importantly, if his three again starts to fall consistently. He's had the looks.

Made a few FR mistakes and had a few TOs we don't want to see but otherwise had a good game. Was solid just about all night long and got after it on D and on the boards.

Played like I would expect from a freshman guard getting 29 minutes in the BE. I wish he would have gotten more time in the non-conference portion of the season. He is definitely learning on the job, but I think he had 5 assists and I do like his commitment to dribble into the lane and not hang out on the perimeter. He and Markel (and to lesser extent Jabril) must keep the defenses aware of that.

Some have mentioned his stability in breaking the press but my favorite move of the night was right infront of the Provy bench. He was trapped on the sideline and just spun so quick right down the line and left both defenders in the dust.

Can we please stop with the ..."he's not good enough to play at this level". Anyone who insists on this sounds foolish. Kid has moxy...is a better than advertised defender and play maker.

I have been as critical as anyone about DSR and full disclosure it has mostly been about my perceived negative "attitude" he had vs how he performed on the court thus far. That being said, I owe him an apology after tonight. I thought DSR had his best game tonight as a Hoya. Really competed tonight on both ends of the floor and made great decisions with the ball. Knocking down some shots definitely helped! I hope he builds off this performance because we really need him to do this every game. Well done DSR!
