Does anybody know how many tickets are still unsold? Is anyone able to explain, in some way that won't make me upset, why they haven't yet sold out? I can't believe there are still tickets left for a game at McDonough THAT WILL BE ON ESPN! What is going on!?

Someone posted that non-student tix are sold out and that there is a waitlist. Student tix aren't sold out yet but Im assuming a lot of that has to do with the fact that students here aren't used to games selling out and they assume they can get tickets when they walk up to the game.
Hopefully student tickets sell out soon but it was also posted that they will start giving tix to people on the waitlist if student tix havent sold out by Monday night.
I just hope that they allow standing room along the baseline during the game. I really want to see McDonough completely packed and rocking.

I want to see the same thing.
I suppose if they reserved half the seats for student - about 1,250 (or more if they, hopefully, try to bust offical capacity) - that would require a pretty large percentage of undergrads. I wonder what the average student turnout for regular season games was? They filled most of the student section for Illinois, Nova, and a few others, which probably surpassed 1,250. I don't see why they couldn't pull that off for a game at McDonough that will be on ESPN.
I'd rather the tickets be taken by students than people "off the street" because the students are what provide the raucous atmosphere we absolutely must have. That, and I already have tickets.

I definately agree w/ you on having as many students as possible. The non students haven't really added much in terms of "noise" so far this year. I think the reason the students haven't sold out yet is exactly what 007 said--there's no sense of urgency, b/c the students have never really had to worry about there being tickets available. If they really are going to start giving tickets reserved to students to people on the waitlist starting Mon. night, they better make sure they tell the students (which will give them a sense of urgency for sure). Everyone I've talked to is excited about the game, so the student section should sell out, it's just a matter of when.

Glad to hear you think the student section will sell out, Tbird41.
As for the non-students not making enough noise, I'm afraid it was like that back in the early 90s when I was a student as well. When I went to the 93 NIT game against UTP at McDonough, though, I had the exact opposite experience of what one got at cavernous USAir Arena, or one gets now at MCI. McDonough absolutely rocked! The students made the Cameron Crazies seem like a collection of lobotmized, mute zombies.
I want to experience that again at Tuesday's game, I want the students to get the same experience, and I want GU to understand it has got to make renovating McDonough into a useful arena a top priority.

If we don't sell out the student section, I will officially withdraw my support for an on-campus arena and instead forward all future donations to other projects. Don't let us all down, undergrads (of course, I'm pretty confident all BOARD member undergrads will be there).

Don't let us all down, undergrads (of course, I'm pretty confident all BOARD member undergrads will be there). Well, is it too unreasonable to think of the game on Tuesday as a sort of "final exam" to see (1) how the student section did this year; (2) how well Sports Promo, Hoya Blue, etc. are doing promoting events? At some point, I guess we have to put our faith in everyone involved here to get the job done. Emails were sent--I know I got one and I don't even go to the school anymore, rest assured the student body got them. There were flyers--nice glossy ones too (I had one "procured" for my collection of GU basketball promo flyers)--for the Boston U game, and I've got to believe there are some up now for this one. Why, right now, GUHoya2007 could be standing on the top of a ladder in Red Square or hanging from an awning off of the O'Donovan cafeteria putting up a homemade sign. He's probably wearing the wig while doing it. And Hoya Blue...hey, weren't those 2000-2001 shirts with the bulldog flexing his arm cool? You have to believe that a buzz would exist for a home postseason game at McDonough that's on ESPN--that it would sell ITSELF. At the end of the day, all you can do after all this promotion is stick the tickets in front of the students in as many places as possible. Red Square, the ticket window, the cafeteria. It's $5, which is cheaper than a normal student ticket, whether you buy at the gate or divide up your season ticket package. And there's no "confusing" school bus system to worry about. Our promotions strategy isn't perfect, our student groups that should be leading on this aren't doing all they could be, some students may be jetting or catching the train tomorrow night. But if you can't put up a good (EDIT: check that, great...no...AWESOME) showing for THIS game...then maybe we still have a long way to go as student fans. It's final exam time. (P.S.: I think I know the answer to this one).

Its funny you mentioned that about me because I just got finished putting up some huge homemade banners.
A friend and I made enormous banners and put them up on McCarthy Hall right by the Cafeteria. One says "Make McDonough Rock on ESPN" and underneath that "Get Tickets Now-Sell it Out" and the other sign was first used for the BU game and has now been altered. It says "Let's Go Hoyas" and underneath "Beat (BU is checked off) CSF".
We also made a huge banner and put it up by the players entrance to McDonough that reads, "Protect this House" and underneath "WE ARE GEORGETOWN". Unfortunately we ran out of blue spray paint for the last 3 letters but it stills looks ok.

I like the final exam comparison. I also think a lot more can be done to improve spirit and interest. We're a good team now, a winning team. There should be more excitement, and there just isn't. I'm not sure what it will take, but I just know that there are people out there who ought to be excited and yet are not.
Anyhow, Im sure myself and the other undergrads will be sure to pump up the volume (what hackneyed phrase that is) on tuesday night.

One thing that might help sell out the tickets to students is better placement of the table where they are being sold in Red Square. On Friday it was located out of the way, on the side of the Square near the stairs. It was not well-marked--just a table with a boring blue banner. I had to ask where it was. They could do a better job of promotion--maybe have someone standing in front of the table announcing that this is where you get game tickets. I spoke to several people who said they had gone to buy tickets and couldn't find the table.

I can not believe that you blame the location of the ticket table for the poor showing by the undergrads
I am tired of all of the excuses. The game should of been sold out on friday. For all of the DUKE bashing that goes on here does anyone doubt that the students at Duke would have sold out Cameron by now if they were in the NIT.
Come on students get out of bed, throw on your oversized High School sweatpants, shower flip flops, and your trucking hats, and go buy tickets for the last home game of the year!!!

TOO MANY EXCUSES.. if any students dont buy tix to this game and they are sold to OTHERS.. then my original proposal should stand. ... ANY HOYA STUDENTS NOT BUYING TICKETS WILL BE EXPELLED FROM GU FOR THE REST OF THE SEMESTER AND MUST FINISH THEIR SEMESTER AT MARYLAND.. come on you all... do you realize how big this is... espn national tv ...and student seats not sold out.. would be embarassing ...with a capital E go hoyas ...sell out mcdonough with students ....and arrive at least an hour early to get seats and start rocking.. lets relive the 82 steve stepanovich number 4 ranked missouri rout... ( SEE THE HOYASAXA.COM GREAT ARTICLE ON THE FRONT PAGE FOR GREAT MEMORIES) lets let mcdonough rock and roll... go hoyas make the titans remember missouri... al mcquire did the game and said he couldnot hear himself think in mcdonough ... go hoyas ..lLETS MAKE SOME NOISE ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Are there any students on here who might be able to provide an indication if tickets are moving today?
I can understand not being accustomed to sell outs, but by the day before the game students ought to be buying up the last of the tickets, especially if they know any unsold by the end of the day will be made available to the general public.
Anybody heard a count on how many are still unsold?
I agree with the expulsion "nuclear option," by the way.

If the students can't sell out THIS McD for a post-season game, this kills any argument people have in favor of a NEW McD for full-time Hoya hoops. Also, forget Duke... I was recently home for the University at Buffalo MAC tourney games and their NIT home game - and I gotta say even they put Hoya fans to shame, and they've been D1 for all of seven seconds. This isn't just a final exam - this is the MCAT, LSAT, bar exam, and whatever big tests are out there all rolled into one. This is what everyone asked for - games on campus that mean something, national TV, under a new coach, a new program, renewed hope... if the students don't come out for this, they don't deserve games on campus. GO HOYAS!!! TROUNCE THE TITANS!!

FWIW, I just got a call a few minutes ago from the ticket office, saying that I had been pulled off the non-student waitlist. So, it looks like there are still some tickets available, depending on how long the waitlist is.

I give the students until end of business today... if there are any tix left, give them to people who actually WANT to go on the waitlist.
Seriously, this is quite disheartening. What more do you people want? National tv, post-season, on-campus... anything short of a STUDENT wait-list is a disgrace.
GO HOYAS!!!

It's absolutely revolting.
What happened to all the students who showed up for the games against Illinois and Nova? Where the hell are they now?

Right on - there are NO exams, NO vacations, NO excuses. This is everything people complain about NOT having, and here it is laid out at their feet and this is the student response? Yikes. I mean I know they aren't playing Syracuse, Duke, Illinois, Stanford, whoever, but c'mon...

I agree with Buffalo. Let's open up all tickets at the end of business today. If students can't turn out for this one, I'll take my chances with the general admissions crowd, provided that it isn't dominated by the whine and cheese townies.
Also a good point about the on-campus arena argument. I see this as a real monkey wrench for the "full steam ahead" crowd, but I will also argue that the arena needs to be built for NSO/Convocation/graduation purposes.
