Yeah, as I said above, that's what I am most worried about. It's tough to be on the road against a team that's good at getting to the line, especially when one of your team's biggest weakness is depth. I think this game will be tougher than @uconn, for example.

Sims and Porter both fouled out in the game in Milwaukee last year--Henry played only 25 minutes, Otto 27. MU went to the line 45 times, to 25 for us. Hollis and Greg also finished with 4 fouls.
Compare that with the January matchup in DC that the Hoyas won. MU got to the line only 20 times, to 23 for the Hoyas.

In 2011 But of course, that won't happen in this game, because we're Georgetown, and we don't foul. Totally agree with all of Big Dog's posts above. Maybe I'm just a pessimist at heart, but I'll be very pleasantly surprised if we win this one.

We've played several teams in the top 1000 of getting to the line: 17th Indiana, 13th Tennessee, 35th Texas, and Towson 98th. Marquette is only 75th.
Tennessee only shot 11 free throws against us they average 23.5 a game
Texas shot 21 free throws against us they average 24 free throws a game
Indiana shot 36 free throws against us the most a team has shot against us this year. They average 26.9 free throws a game
Towson only shot 8 FTs against us. They average 20.7 free throws a game.
The rest of our opponents aren't good at getting to the line (outside the top 100) but we held all of them below their season averages of getting to the line: Duquesne averages 20.3 attempts per game we held them to 12 Liberty averages 19.4 attempts per game, we held them to 9 UCLA averages 21.9 attempts per game, we held them to 16 Mount St. Mary's averages 12.5 attempts per game, we held them to 2 Longwood averages 17.4 attempts per game, we held them to 15 Western Carolina averages 17.7 attempts per game, we held them to 14 American averages 14.8 attempts per game, we held them to 9
Marquette averages 21.9 FTA a game even with the 45 attempts against UConn. Only Indiana shot above their average against us and that's because we had to foul to stop the clock.
We are 27th in the nation in opponents FTA/FGA I don't think it would be unreasonable for us not to parade Marquette to the free throw line.
I'm not saying foul trouble isn't a possibility or that Marquette won't get points at the line. I fully expect Hopkins to get in foul trouble guarding Gardner. But I would be surprised to see them get to the line 45 times again. We tend to play good defense with out fouling. Uconn is 149th in FTA/FGA.
Teams are only getting 16.8% of their points against us from the line. Teams do the majority of their damage against us from deep. Luckily that has been a weakness of Marquettes.
If we're going to contend in the BE this is the type of game we need to win. I fully expect us to win this game because we're the better team.

I agree with Seth Davis here, and it's one of the reasons I am a little more bullish on our BE chances this year. I think this is one of the more favorable schedules we've had. GEORGETOWN (10-1, No. 15): BUY This may seem unwisely bullish, but the Hoyas' stock price really took a beating after that hellacious 37-36 win over Tennessee. Still, the Hoyas have one of the best-kept secrets in college basketball in Otto Porter, who is ranked in the top 10 of the Big East in points, steals, field goal percentage and assist-to-turnover ratio. They have a unique system that is tough to defend. And the Hoyas have a favorable schedule that includes just one game against Louisville, and that one's at home. Four of Georgetown's first six league games are on the road, but after that the Hoyas play five out of seven in D.C. So they'll have a chance to bank some house money before the final stretch. And against Indiana, many of their FTs came in OT -- when you are much more likely to send a team to the line since the fouls don't reset to 0.

Matt, stafford was pulling your young leg. Bob Uecker is a retired baseball player turned announcer. He was self-depracating (think of Rodney Dangerfield, who got no respect), who in a well-watched commercial was all alone sitting in the nose bleed seats.

Well, that was a fun little turn for the surreal. I'm trying to think of a good Mr. Belvedere joke.
;D
Oh, by the way...16? Six-frigging-teen? Aside from the fact that I hate you, I'm pretty sure you might win the award for youngest HoyaTalk poster.
Which is not the same as most immature Hoyatalk poster, a crown for which many of us vie on a daily basis.

This may not count for anything but, we didn't play any of those teams on their home court. Right. I hate to be so crude and anti-statistic about it, but not a single one of the games you mentioned were true road games. There's a reason I compared the two 2012 games FT counts in my post above.

Really, if Marquette is as bad against a zone as people say, then we should be able to contain them, even if they get some free throws. We are the better team, we should win (yes, that wins the award for statement of the obvious).
