tough game considering it is the first road game of the year and coming off a 2 week layoff.

I'm sure i will get killed for this, but watching that game last night showed another reason why I am happy we won't be in the BE for much longer. I am not saying we won't be successful this year, but 18 games of playing games like that is just a huge grind of ugly basketball. Marquette was 2-16 from 3 point range and scored 82 points from going to the line 40 times. As others mentioned, if games are called like that this season, we are hosed. I love our style of offense and defense, but it's no surprise that year in and out, it's neutralized somewhat by even the worst of the BE bruisers.

I don't think it has anything to do with BE or not BE. Awful Villanova games aside, I think the BE is more known for letting tough play go uncalled than calling every foul you can.

I agree our game is neutralized to an extent by teams being physical which is why them calling lots of fouls is good for us. It prevents teams from being overly physical with us and allows us to get to the line. I prefer they call it tight rather than lose. The only person on marquette that worries me is Gardner. Luckily he's only capable of playing 20 minutes a game but his foot work and body control are probably the best of any big man in the BE. Would be great to get him into foul trouble.

When games are called tight, our team will struggle. We are barely 7 deep. You said it yourself. Gardner is easily the type of guy that can draw 3 fouls on Hopkins in 10-12 minutes. He was 10-10 from the line yesterday, if I am not mistaken. And, I dont even think Marquette is in the top 5 of good front BE front lines.
I think you and Boz are right, in the sense that you can read it different ways, but I am particularly worried about this squad. We will really see where we are when we play Pitt next week.

Not just that Gardner is like a 80% + FT shooter, so he makes you pay even if you foul him.

This will be a good bellweather game for us.
The offense is a real question mark for the the Hoyas -- and Marquette can score a bit. We can defend, but at some point you will run into teams that are making shots even over good defenses.

Our team plays good defense with out fouling. I think other teams like Cincinnati and Louisville play defense a lot more with their hands and therefore it benefits us to have them call it tight because other wise they're allowed to push, hold, and generally foul and force turnovers. Teams do not get to the line that much against us. We play positional defense and don't reach in. So I think a tight whistle helps us more than it hurts. Sure there's the concern of foul trouble, but in terms of flow of the game I think it's better for us because it allows us to run our offense with out teams grabbing and holding. I think our offensive game is much more finesse than most other BE teams so a tight whistle would benefit us more than hurt us. But Reasonable people can disagree on this point. I think we can agree a medium whistle would be best. Letting everything go is bad for us overall I think.

I see no reason why we should not win this game.
Zone them a ton, protect the ball and make things difficult for Gardner.

The problem is the refs tend to bail out players with the ball who draw some contact after driving into traffic, but they are less likely to call the holds and bumps on cuts, flashes, and other off-the-ball breaks into space that are important to the Georgetown offense. That is where opponents get away with playing physical.

I think this year, more than ever, we really need to benefit from a loosely called game. We are 132nd in Pomeroy in offense, and 13 in defense. That is pretty remarkable. If we are going to be good this year, IMO, it will be all about defense and transition. I just dont see us competing well in the BE in half court offense. I hope I am wrong, but as SF said, games like Marquette, Pitt and Cincy are usually good bellwethers. In years where we have taken the step to the next level, we have found ways to win against those teams when they werent as talented. This year, I think Pitt and Marquette fit that bill.

Anybody that's going to the game or been to Milwaukee before have any good suggestions on what to do while me and my dad are there this weekend? Anybody know if the riverwalk is a good place to go to? Water Street is great area. Milwaukee is actually a pretty fun town. Plenty of bars around the Bradley Center to keep you busy as well. Thanks man will keep that in mind. As for the game, it will be very difficult to get the W at the Bradley Center, they've won 17 straight there i believe the announcer said yesterday. That doesn't mean we can't get the W because i believe we can. I think we are the better team, but we always seem to struggle at the Bradley Center and they are tough to beat there.. hoping to see a Georgetown W, but it will be a difficult task.

Is this a good thing or bad for hoyas? I think it gives you a edge when you play a game then get someone who has not played a con game yet. It is the toughest game I think the first con game.everyone wants to get that first con win. I hope hoyas is not to rusty, but again I think they will be fired up and ready to get conference games going. We will see sat,I hope we come out on fire.
Go hoyas!!!

Roll call. My attendance in general and at Marquette in particular has a streak of doom associated with it, so hoping to reverse that this year.

I'll be there as always. Would be nice to finally see a second Hoyas win there after the first and only came in 2008. I've gotten used to walking out of that building with a bitter taste in my mouth. Anybody who thinks AP rankings mean anything in a game like this is out of their mind. It will be very, very difficult to win here, and I don't like that we've had such a long layoff. A tentative MU fan base will be revved up for this one after the UConn win--licking their lips at a possible 2-0 BE start when they've been playing like a bubble team at times.
Better figure out how to win here since we're going to be coming here every year forever in all likelihood.

The Alumni Clubs of Chicago and Milwaukee are planning to meet up at Major Goolsby's (340 W. Kilbourn Ave., Milwaukee, one block from the Bradley Center) pre-game. Would love to see any/all Hoyas there who are making the trip!!

Regardless of how the game is called, expect 2 things: 1) MU to live at the line, 2) MU fans to be convinced their team is getting screwed by the refs.
The Golden Eagles went to the line 41 times against Connecticut, which is how they managed to score in the 80s while shooting only 2-16 from 3.
