Is there any good reason why this game is scheduled for 6:30EST instead of 7EST? A 6:30 PM weeknight game is awful. Will be very hard for a lot of fans to make it there on time, myself included. I am afraid most of the crowd won't make it there until close to the end of the first half.

In looking at the listings, my guess is that it's ESPN contract with the NBA that drives this. Friday is NBA night, but they are showing two BE-SEC challenge games first. Our game is at 630, and then Syracuse's game is at 830. But, there is an NBA game at 1030.
630 is not a great time for alumni, but the students better be there.

Seriously, 6:30 on a Friday is a great time. Hoyas never get Friday night games because of the Wiz or Caps, now they finally get one. Great opportunity for the students to be nice and lubed up for the game. This is fantastic. Better than a Saturday noon game against MSM.

...and getting out of the game at 8:30 leaves plenty of time for students' other pursuits for the rest of the evening.

I'm stoked about both the start time and the fact that it's on a Friday: what a great way to start the weekend! While we know the happy hour crowd will be there, I hope the students (who have had a paltry showing so far this year) turn up in force, and that Athletics, Hoop Club, and Hoya Blue are doing everything they can to drum up excitement.
Also, this will be Tenn's first in-country away game this season. So far they've played 4 games in Italy and 3 in Puerto Rico. They've played 2 games in Knoxville, and have another tonight against Oakland. Their record is currently 8-1.

They've played 2 games in Knoxville, and have another tonight against Oakland. Their record is currently 8-1. They thrashed Oakland tonight 77-50, but the four games in Italy were exhibition games, kind of like our games in China last summer. They also seem to have had a home exhibition game against Victory University (haha). Their season didn't actually start until their opener against Kennesaw State, and then they had the three games in Puerto Rico, then home vs. Oakland. They are now 4-1, not 9-1. Like many games in the early season, no idea how good this Vols team is. Their only loss is by 17 points to Oklahoma State, but the Cowboys look very good so far - 5-0, ranked 15th/17th, and put an even worse hurt on #18 NC State in Puerto Rico, which was ranked 6th at the time. We are more battle-tested so far, but I don't see the Vols going down quietly. This is a game we should win if we expect to stay ranked in the top 25! Go Hoyas!

Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to name a for-profit religious school "Victory"? Are they trying to compete with Liberty? Oakland is now 2-5, bottom of the Summit Conf (tied with Nebraska Omaha). Either way, should be a good game on Friday.

If it's orange, it deserves to lose. Don't know who had the color first, but UT should have gladly given it up once SUcks adopted it. Go Hoyas!!!

This game gives me the chance to trot out my old Tennessee story. My brother was a journalism major at UT back in the 70's, and was in a typing class with Bernard King(using actual typewriters, you younguns may have to Google what they were). Whenever they had a timed test to see how many words they could accurately type in 1 or 2 minutes, when the teacher announced that time was up, the only sound would be the slow and methodical "tap. . . tap . . . tap . . tap" of Bernard in the back of the room, getting to the minimum number of words required to get a passing grade. My brother would just shake his head and chuckle along with the rest of the class. And of course the professor never said a word.

Not to mention that I thought typing classes were for business colleges. That's where I took mine. When I was 11. I still recall the instructor talking about Rasil Bathbone, the worst annihilator of the English language known to man. Of course, I loved Rasil Bathbone. But I digress.

I remember Basis R. from Beat the Clock. When they had quotes from Shakespeare, Basil would quickly recite the whole section. So, I remember him as a Shakespeare expert.

I really don't think it's right for GU to make special deals (like Living Social) or hold special sales (like selling student section tickets last year during the semester break) without lowering the Hoop Club price for those individual games. I think it shows a lack of respect for the Hoop Club and that they are taking us for granted.
When I had season tickets I'm sure I would have agreed with you all. Now that I'm reduced to a handful of games and game watches in a handful of cities, I've developed a slightly different perspective.
That being said I must admit you may have a point regarding Living Social. From a strictly timing view, these deals connot be finalized until a few days before the game, so you have a good handle on what attedance will be. Actually this shows RESPECT for those farsighted members who bought their single game Ticketd when they were first offered.
With regard to offering student tickets to Club members during semester break, I stand my ground. The ticket office seems to agree. In January the swapped me tickets to 2 games for my $40 ticket. The 7 pm game was $30 and the 9 pm game was $9. I guess demand really falls off when there is a 9 pm game on a "school night"!!
See you all tonight for a BIG W!!

I think it shows a lack of respect for the Hoop Club and that they are taking us for granted. It shows Georgetown needs to sell tickets for this game. It's not like LivingSocial is selling the same tickets most Hoop Club members and season ticket holders have. They're selling 400 level and 200 level tickets that would have otherwise been unsold. Many professional franchises and some colleges partner with Groupon/LivingSocial type companies for deals like this to unload unused tickets on the sort of people who frequent those sites and are looking for something to do on a Friday night.

As FLHoya said, they're not selling the best locations this way. These offers pretty much are limited to games where attendance is likely to be low in the first place - the games people here moan and complain about the poor attendance. I'm all in favor of efforts like this to maximize ticket revenues for the program and fill the seats. Even better if a few people each game say "this is fun, I think I'll buy season tickets next year."

For all those who complain about attendance and don't purchase tickets, Support your team. This is a great deal.
