who will it be? (otto not included...too easy a choice)
i say hopkins. i liked what i saw from him offensively last year. this year, he finishes all the bunnies he missed last year. 10pts 6 reb per game while playing around 25 minutes per game.

Whittington. Someone will need to be the second scoring option.

I don't really consider freshman options for a "breakout player". A breakout player is someone who has shown potential in previous years and some see a big year out of nowhere. So, I think there is actually a frew options on this team sans otto. I would say it is either starks or Gwhitt. If I had to pick one I would pick starks only because we know how hard he worked in the summer to improve and he is the vocal leader of this team

DSR - could be first or second on team in scoring and assists.

Whittington. 6'8 SG that plays lock down defense and was getting his offensive confidence by the end of the year (and was recruited for his offensive game?). Yeah, he's going to be fun.

I'm going with Greg W. He will come out of "nowhere" (for the rest of college bball nation, that is) to score in double figures, improve his rebound numbers and be a mismatch on defense and offense.

It would be downright poetic if GWhit, DSR, Markel, Jabril, Nate and Mikael regularly threaten to put up 15-20 points in any game and the rest of the country wonders why there was so much preseason hype for Otto (i.e., the guy who'd deserve much of the credit for his teammates all being on fire).

Markel makes the biggest leap IMO. Whitt was already pretty good last year, and while his usage rates will rise, I'm not calling it a breakout. Markel on the other hand was mostly pretty lousy, so his improvement will be more of a breakout.
I think Mikael surprises as well. He is weirdly an after thought considering he was a highly recruited player from a powerhouse high school with nice fundamentals and above average athleticism. 10-6 and some blocks sounds about right.

I think Whitt and Otto will lead the team in scoring. Unfortunately I think Markel will be more of the same. Hopkins will be the true under the radar breakout player, since I think most of us predict Whittington will break out this year. DSR will be 2nd-3rd highest scorer per game by the end of the year.

Markel will be more than "more of the same". That's a guarantee.
