Does anybody know if the game has sold out yet? I checked GUHoyas.com and called the athletic department offices to see if there were any messages about it? I'll be really unhappy if we don't jam the place. Though I hate the NIT, possibly the most fun I ever had at a GU game was the '93 NIT game against UTEP at McDonough. Finally, a real home court advantage.
I've got my tickets, by the way!
GO HOYAS!!!

NIT INFO: In the 2nd round Maryland has to face another team that we played this year(Davidson). Hopefully our results vs. these teams (Oral Roberts and Davidson) will end up being opposite, though it would be awesome to face the twerps at MSG and beat them (but we have to win a few games ourselves first).

DId anyone notice that we were the first game to be played away from MSG in the NIT? From the NIT website:
In 1977, early round games were moved to campus sites with only the semifinals and final being held at Madison Square Garden. In 1980, he started taking an all-star team of players who had been in the NIT on an overseas trip. Then, in 1985 the Preseason NIT was started. It has become college basketball's starting off point every season since and has given the sport matchups worthy of March.
"Going to campus sites was a matter of survival," current NIT executive director Jack Powers said. "We had to do it."
They did.
"We were in trouble. We lost our television contract with CBS, and fan support had fallen off," Carlesimo said. "When I was at Fordham and served on the committee, I started pushing the idea of taking the early round games out of New York and playing them regionally. When I took over as executive director, it no longer was a choice. We had to try something to save the NIT."
The first NIT game played away from the Garden was Georgetown at Virginia Tech. The game sold out in three hours and the NIT was reborn.

I just stopped by the ticket office to pick up my tickets and tried to buy a few more and there is a waiting list for non-student tickets. Unbelievable . . . us alums have already bought out our share but the students are lagging way behind. The lady in the box office said they have reserved about half of the tickets for students, but still have a lot of student tickets left. She said they will give the students a chance to buy them but if by Monday afternoon there are still a lot of tickets they will begin to fill orders off of the waiting list. STUDENTS GET OFF YOUR BUTTS AND GO BUY TICKETS!! Just not too many, so I can still buy a few more.

Im going to make some huge banners promoting the game today with a friend. Students are sometimes slow to get their tickets but hopefully our advertising will get people more excited and remind them to pick up their tix.

Not excusing it one bit, but one issue is that many students leave for the Easter Break on Tuesday.

Maybe it's only rich kids attending these days, but in the 1980's a lot of us either got to go home for Spring Break or Easter, but not both. Georgetown's a pretty quiet place around the Triduum.

Here's hypothetical question that might be worth considering: If the crowd is so nuts (in a good way, not a UMd way) that it breaks McDonough, do you think we'd get a new arena to replace it?

I posted this in the game watch events thread, but figure that more people will see it in this thread-
On Thursday, March 24, ESPN Pacific Rim will be broadcasting the game at 6:30AM (Sydney, Australia Time- AEST). Anyone in Sydney is welcome to join me at the 24/7 Sports Bar in Kings Cross- 101 Darlinghurst Road. And yes, most of us will know the outcome beforehand (game will be live on internet radio @ 11am on Wednesday, March 23rd here), but hey- you gotta go and see McDonough on nation..... wait... INTERNATIONAL TV!

Man, Students are pathetic!!!! I just called to see the status of student tickets and they said there are plenty left. That is so sad that the students arn't buying these tickets. I guess it just means that the waiting list will get filled. Glad to see the support is somewhere

Students may be pathetic, but they also aren't used to games selling out. They're so used to the never ending supply of available seats at MCI that they assume they can just get tickets when they walk up.
Whatever, I wish it was sold out immediately too, but we still have a lot of work to do.

Are there any students on here who might be able to provide an indication if tickets are moving today?
I can understand not being accustomed to sell outs, but by the day before the game students ought to be buying up the last of the tickets, especially if they know any unsold by the end of the day will be made available to the general public.
Anybody heard a count on how many are still unsold?

Whatever, I wish it was sold out immediately too, but we still have a lot of work to do. I know that when I went to GU the students were smart enough to figure out that if seating capacity goes from 10k+ to 3k+, there is going to be difficulty in getting a seat. The apathy on the part of the students is apalling - especially the seniors which should be able to fill 1,000 seats themselves.

I think it will be interesting to look back at FL's summer column in terms of his types of student fans. HB et al. have done a decent job getting folks to come who would show up anyway and have maybe done an average job with your average Hoya fan, but there has been limited success in terms of others who are not otherwise predisposed toward showing up.
For example, I just got an HB e-mail about the ticket situation. The problem is that people who get the HB e-mails are the folks who are going to show up in an above average proportion. What they need to do is find a way to target those who are not informed already. I proposed the Dorm Captains strategy over the summer with FLHoya, and I think it still needs to be done.

Might not be a bad idea. Marketing to students- a job once very easy- is now difficult, and rwuiqres a lot more hands-on involvement than previously.
