Having DSR go pro (and actually get drafted) after this year would be great for this program for 2 reasons. (1) It means we had a great year, in which he was highlighted as a pivotal reason why. (2) It shows we can get guards to the league.
As much as having a senior DSR would be amazing for this group, I'd rather have the former scenario play out.

DSR needs to prove that he is in the same or slightly below league as Marcus Smart in order to get him in the first round. Comparing Smart here because they have somewhat similar build, except marcus probably has an inch on him, which can be big I guess. we will see if DSR got it, but i highly doubt he is going to league after this year.

If DSR wants to be compared to Marcus Smart (perhaps a dubious distinction), he needs to show similar athletic ability. He has yet to do so, but may be able to accomplish that with some very intense training next summer.

Unless...DSR leaves after this year..and Peak turns out not to be able to play the point. In high school he was more of a 2 or 3, wasn't he? While I realize he is untested, don't forget about Tre Campbell, who will be able to play point, as well. I think DSR leaving for the draft isn't a real threat. First, he's not on the radar of NBA scouts. Second (and unfairly), he's not even on many people's radar for the Big East, nevermind the NBA. DSR shouldered a significant scoring burden last year because he and Starks were the only good offensive options. That should change this year (if Smith stays eligible and has gotten into better shape, it will), which means that it will be very hard for DSR to put up the type of numbers that would garner him enough attention to make a high NBA draft pick a reality. Of course, he could pull a Hollis Thompson and declare anyway, but I think that's unlikely. If I recall, Hollis had declared and withdrew from the draft as a sophomore, which DSR did not do (though I know the rules are different now). The writing was on the wall for Hollis Thompson, and I think many of us expected his move after junior year (even though I still think it was a horrible decision for him). There's no similar indication for DSR. If we have DSR, Campbell, and Peak in 2015-2016, that will be serviceable, though not ideal. The real problem is that in 2016-2017, we basically have one real guard in Campbell, and Peak. That's not enough depth.

I am not saying DSR will be entering the draft, but I don't particularly agree with the sentiment that his numbers are going to go down all that much. We lost our only other real high-scoring alternative from last year. We will throw in Smith, perhaps more scoring from Trawick, and unproven freshman as the replacement. Of course, if a couple of the freshman and Smith start putting up good numbers, so much the better for the team.

DSR scored very well last year with Smith in the line-up, I'd bet his #'s barely moved after Smith became suspended.. I don't think Smith will have a negative effect on his scoring.. If anything, it should help having him on the court forcing teams to double him in the post..

DSR is going to put up big numbers but he’s not athletic enough to get the scouts giddy.
LJ Peak tho….

I don't know if you're just trying to be funny, but why would a Hoya fan be excited about observing the disappointment of other Hoya fans?? Meltdowns on Hoyatalk generally occur after a potentially big loss to the program (Kyle Anderson, Nerlens Noel, etc)...Crawford is far from that. I believe he would have done well in our system though. Some may say that he played us, and looking back at how it all played itself out, they may be right. To be totally truthful though, we never led him to think he was a priority for us until later in the game....perhaps too late. He knew that others, especially Dozier, were always a much higher priority for us. Now if we don't get Dozier.....!!!

We did not put all our eggs in him and waste countless hours like Anderson and Noel. Yes it stinks we do not have a guard right now but getting heartbroken off a recruit who isn't included in many top 100 rankings seems frivolous.

Jonathan Wallace, Jesse Sapp, Austin Freeman, Chris Wright, Jason Clark, Markel Starks, Jabril Trawick, DSR, Tre, and Peak (hopefully the last 2 pan out).
Even if Dozier does not sign with us (all things being equal, we only have a 1:5 shot), JTIII will find a solid guard to provide depth at that position for the program.
Not to worry, even if Dozier falls through, although we can be disappointed to lose out on a high level talent.
No hand wringing necessary. We are in great hands with JT3.

Crawford never played the staff and I'm sure they would have gladly taken a commit from the kid anytime over the past year and a half.. He fell out of the top 100 for ESPN just recently but he's #78 on Rivals, #95 on 247, #83 on Scout and #72 on future 150's site.. You're both correct in saying folks shouldn't go crazy about him going elsewhere but I don't think it's right to down play the staff's interest or the kid himself either..

DSR is not the same caliber athlete as Smart. DSR needs to work on proving that he can be a Andre Miller type. Which means improving his assist to turnover ratio.

There was a time when we likely would not have taken a commitment from him....especially when we had verbal from Dickerson. There were a lot of guys we were hot on, including dozier, trier, Rabb, etc..

I wasn't saying that Crawford deserved a meltdown, just pointing out it was unnecessary to mock any other posters who might have been disappointed in missing out on him. That being said, I personally wasn't that disappointed in not getting Crawford. He's a nice player, a very good passer, good athlete, and I would have been happy if he had chosen G'town. On the other hand, I think we could find other guards outside the top 100 who have similar size and skillsets. He's not a unique talent like a certain 6'6" athletic point guard.... It's certainly way too early in the 2015 recruiting calendar to panic, but it would have been nice if we could have nabbed just one of our guard targets that we've missed on. However, it seems the staff feels good about where they stand with Dozier, and I hope they're right because Dozier has the potential to be an immediate impact player.

People on these boards have some seriously unrealistic expectations for DSR. You think its unrealistic for him to have a year comparable to last year, which by most accounts was pretty damn good?
Rather than re-invent the wheel, I will just quote MCI from another thread:
It gets better...or worse. Further inside the issue in the sections that break down each conference, the people who put together the expected All Big East first team left DSR off that list too (he was relegated to the pre-season second team). This is despite the fact that DSR was a choice for the 2013-2014 All Big East Second Team after last season and that five of the six members of the First Team, including Markel Starks, are no longer around. Hell, one could make a great argument that DSR should have been selected First Team All BE last season. How can anyone conjure up a pre season BE First Team list and keep him off? He is THE returning leading scorer in the Big East, something that typically gives one a lot of street cred with the media. He is the #7 returning rebounder in the Big East! Yes, you read that right. He is the seventh best returning BE player in as far as rebounding numbers are concerned, one spot ahead of Mikael. He is #2 returning player in 3 Point FG%. In fact he is one of only two BE players who leads all returning players on his team in points, rebounds and assists. The other guy who can say the same is LaDontae Henton of Providence. And Lindy’s loves them some LaDontae Henton. He is #6 on their Top 25 small forward list. And he is a First Team All BE selection by the magazine too.

Good luck to the kid. I hope he proves all of the staffs that pulled back on him wrong and gives me some fun highlights to watch of hitting game winners against some of the ACC teams that I actually dislike. Sadly, Wake hasn't been remotely good enough in many years to dislike. And, even then, I couldn't muster the same ACC disdain I usually can muster. It's difficult to dislike players/people like Tim Duncan and Chris Paul. From a pure fan's perspective, I hope Wake starts creeping back to where they once were.
