Do you actually believe that teams have figured out the back cut? We've been doing it for 8 years now. And teams have been running it a lot longer than that. Teams prep for it, obviously, but there are counters and counters to the counters and so on. I'd love to see a breakdown from last season to see how many back door pass/cuts translated into a basket. In 1.5 games this season I can only think of one.

I think in principle we're on the same page. Something needs to change and I think running more and throwing wrinkles in the offense like the high pick and roll is very very necessary. I HATE when our offense gets stagnant. My main qualm with III's philosophy has been when we get a big lead and then take the foot off the gas and run the thing through. It's just painful and lets teams get back into games. We need to keep goinh at the pace at which we build this lead. I think to a degree teams have sort of figured out how to take away our back cuts as any decently coached team should, so we need other means of offense. I've seen spurts of converting more to quicker offense more driving the ball into lanes and I was encouraged watching the game again (wasn't singing this tune after watching the game live at verizon) that there were glimpses of this. We will see what these upcoming games bring but as you've already acknowledged it's WAY too early in the season for anyone to say that nothing's changed.
Mostly I'm just so sick and tired how our offense gets bashed on the recruiting trail when you watch most other top 25 teams playing at the same pace. We get more bogged down against the zone (which most teams look like they're going to employ against us) like ANY other team would. It takes way more time to dissect than man.

And we have played well vs. the SU zone recently. I get tired of it too. Thing is kids don't watch the games, instead they listen to the people around them who talk to other coaches and get gifts. Oops my bad...Ijs

The issue to me is: Are guards allowed to make plays? Pace may be the same with say, Notre Dame - but Notre Dame has an offense that will allow guards to work pick and rolls and break people down off the dribble. That would be more appealing to a recruit than dumping it into the high post and going to cut and then waiting around. Everyone does zone us. So if you're main sets can't be utilized - what's the point? We no longer get any action off of back door. A) Because nobody plays man. B) Everyone knows how to defend it at this point if they go man. I'm not totally sure what the system is at this point.

You seem to be blaming the Hoyas offense for being too successful against the man to man defense. A. If everybody does zone us, as you say, then that is an indication that the opponent believes the Georgetown 'system' against man to man is more dangerous than it is against the zone. B. I don't believe that JTIII is relying on surprising his opponents with his game plan. Everyone does know how to defend against the backdoor, but it is another thing to execute that defense.
Maybe I have missed the point of your criticism. Are you arguing that he needs to attack the zone better? I would agree with you there if so.

Yes zoning this team is the better alternative, that doesn't mean the offense vs man is terrific. Physical teams have shown that (ie Cincinnati).
I'm not asking for an element of surprise, but back cuts being taken away instantly limits the options this has to offer, doesn't it?

It doesn't necessarily mean that, but it's the reality. When a team plays man versus is for long stretches its easy for us to get in a groove. And no, the offense has a lot more to offer than back cuts. Those aren't a large part of the offense so I don't know why you would think that's the only thing the princetown is useful for?

Interviewer is terrible. But the kids sounds like a Gtown kid just from how he handles himself.

How did MSJ lose to Palotti?

Tom Crean and his whole staff were in the building to see him tonight at the Gonzaga DC Classic. Had a good game offensively, closed out the win with a 3 that pushed the MSJ lead to 5. Had some nice pull ups as well. Couldn't slow down Josh Hart defensively, but with a little more size he'll be able to handle guys like that in the future.

IU is more dangerous than MD. They're hot right now.
