I agree with Daymond and pr. A combo would be great but it is not a huge need right now. We'll have 3 guys who'll handle the ball--Smith-Rivera, Trawick and Campbell. Guys like Whittington, Peak, Domingo or Bowen may steal minutes at the 2 spot as well even though they're not true guards at this point.
It's hard to see us giving out more than 5 scholarships in '14 and we've already given out 3. I'd rather see the last 2 go to Robinson (or another center) and White/Bentil or another high quality 4 man than a generic combo guard. Nothing against Phil Booth but there are guys his size and with his skill set available every year and we'll surely land something comparable in '15. Talented 7 footers like Robinson and perfect-fits at the 4 spot for us like White are much rarer commodities.

Bummer but expected.
I disagree that a combo isn't a necessity. By the time Booth would have matriculated, Jabril will be a senior, DSR will be a junior and Tre will be a freshman. That's best case because you never know what can happen in regards to injury or someone possibly leaving early. On paper, that's just three players who you can consider primary ball-handlers and in my opinion, it's not enough and I think the staff sees that as well.
Scholarships always work themselves out.

We only had 3 primary ball handlers last year and were just fine. We have 3 this year too and will be just fine. I think it's nice to have another option in case of injury or players leaving/not working out, but it's not so critical that we should stretch for one either. The bigger need is for a legitimate center and power forward right now.

I agree Deacon I think we are very light in the backcourt going forward. I'd like to see another point and a combo in 15.actually would have liked to see a point in this current class any injury to Markel,DSR or Trawick and we have little to fall back upon.

Why are people upset over losing Phil freakin' Booth as if Durant just slipped through our fingers? Pretty good player who has had a so-so summer. Can he be a big time performer at the next level? I guess. And if so that will be good for the Big East so at least we as Gtown fans get something out of his commitment to Nova.

Congratulations to this kid and wish him well in the Big East, with the exception of two gut-wrenching losses each year (and possibly a third).

Add me to the not our biggest need camp. I would much rather have two of the Robinson brothers, Turner, Oubre, White, Travis and Bentil than another combo guard. Frankly, I'd be thrilled with Elbert R. and any one of the remaining group.

Lol, if you consider Otto and Greg as primary ball handlers, then you shouldn't worry because Copeland and Peak are just as good on that front.

The bigger need is for a legitimate center and power forward right now. Yea, it's really not uncommon for us to have just 3 point/combo guards on the roster at a time. Look at the Final 4 team, that squad only had 3 as well with Wallace, Sapp and Rivers. The previous year when we went to the Sweet 16 also really only had 3 with Wallace, Cook and Sapp. And of course last year's team had only Starks, DSR and Trawick. Having 4 ballhandlers would be great, but it isn't absolutely essential and is less important than having quality big guys. I don't think it's a given by any means that we take another ballhandler/small guard in this class. I think right now the staff's biggest priority is getting a high quality center (mostly focused on Robinson) and if they wind up with an additional scholarship they'll go for the best available player whether that's White, Bentil, Oubre, Looney, D. Robinson, Lattin, Johnson or somebody else. IMO Booth was in that second group before committing--a guy who is a good player, plays locally and for a program that we have some connection with, so we recruit him. It doesn't mean he's higher on the board then all those other guys, you just recruit good local guys and see what happens (same as we did with Wiley, Morgan and a million other kids through the years). I really don't think that the fact that we recruited Booth indicates we're set on taking a combo in '14. You just recruit guys like that because they're good players and you see how it shakes out. I do think we'll take at least one and very possibly 2 points/combos in 2015, and there are a couple good ones locally. But for 2014, it's a nice to have and not a must have.

Exactly, plus in the year we're discussing - '14/'15 - we get GW back. JT3 will get to release the Kraken on the BE! GW will do it all, be a mature player and person, and depart at the end of the season. But, we're getting ahead of ourselves...

Lol, if you consider Otto and Greg as primary ball handlers, then you shouldn't worry because Copeland and Peak are just as good on that front. This ball-handling business is a bit overblown. Are we sure Booth would have arrived and added that element?I recall when Austin Freeman and a year later Jason Clark joined the Hoyas and people on this board dismissed them as being true ballhandlers for their first couple of years on the team. Despite his capability Jason may not have proven ready for that responsibility until his senior season. So who is to say Booth would have been a slamdunk on that front, or at least good enough to meet our lofty expectations? And who is to say Peak isn't just as capable or more capable of providing that same skill set as Booth? Hoya fans had their doubts about Jabril in this area too when he arrived at GU. Those doubts have mostly been wiped away at this point.

Look we have no idea who`ll be here and frankly, theres some guys that prolly need to move on. Without any inside knowledge I think Robinson and Oubre are top choices and if they popped recruiting would be over. I think this new staff has changed the culture.
