I'm a Hollis fan, good kid, Loyola grad....but if he can't create his own shot, he won't soon be drafted. There are too many 6-7 small forwards out there that are going to be more than spot-up shooters.

I think he can create his own shots. How often was it done for anyone at GU (except maybe CWright)?

Good luck to Hollis! Although I don't think he's ready, he will graduate and has chosen to move on. It will be interesting to see what happens Draft Day. Many names are declaring + foreign players, so he will have stiff competition. Congratulations on graduation and thanks for representing GU! Good Hollis overall!

He can play basketball next year with a paycheck and no school distractions. If he does get his degree even better. Is it really that hard to understand?
He did the program well. I liked him and the few times I got to meet his family. Glad to call him and his family Hoyas.
Go get yours Hollis. Good luck in the draft.

I wish Hollis all the luck. But at the end of the day I don't see him getting drafted. There have been many of players who have out performed Hollis tremendously in college and have not been drafted. Hollis is an good player. That's it. There are a lot of good players in college. I think it would have help him out if he would have came back one more year and showed he has an ability to put up big numbers.

Good luck to him. Nice kid who represents the university well. I'll bet he surprises some of the people here.

I don't get how people don't see that he wasn't ever going to put up big numbers here. Why? Because no one really does! We don't have guys that put up 20 and 10, not because they're not capable but because production tends to be more balanced. And there was a real possibility that he wouldn't get much out of another year here. Without a lockout, even if he doesn't get drafted he still has a chance at making an NBA roster. If not he'll go play in Europe where he could've ended up next year anyway. What if he did come back and he put up the same numbers as he did this year, played a similar game, and ended up in exactly the same position he's in now?? Then what? He's a year older with nothing to show for it. I don't know why people just can't be happy for him.

Good luck to a fine representative of Georgetown. He arrived as a student first, graduated early and represented himself, his family and our University with class every step of the way.

“Hollis returned for his junior year after submitting his name for the 2011 NBA draft,” John Thompson said in a statement. “We fully anticipated he would enter the 2012 draft after this season."
This gives me hope that Pollard may be Georgetown bound. If the staff knew Hollis was leaving then that was the selling pitch to Devonta. He will start right away when he gets there. Thats the same pitch Missouri, Kentucky, Alabama and Texas could use. If Hollis had stayed then JT3 would have been put in awkward position of having to tell Pollard that he would bench a three year senior starter in order for him to start. Most would agree that that was not going to happen. The best pitch with Hollis staying would have been the minutes Otto played this year off the bench. Now, if he comes he will be the starter at the 3 position for the next 2 years, with a chance to develop all the skills Greg Monroe developed in his 2 years at the Hilltop and then its on to the NBA, with a chance that he gets a BE champioship and a run at the Final Four. Maybe there is affordable housing in the DC area for his mom after all.

Just a clarification question at this point. We all know Hollis' story about coming to school early and all that.
He is going to get his degree this spring, right? I'm pretty sure that's the case, but just wanted to make sure (not that it's technically any of my business).
Here is the reason I ask:
I've been reading all of these stories and I haven't noticed this mentioned once in any of the news reports. Now, I don't expect an outlet like ESPN to care all that much about it, but the WP, and the student newspapers, I would think this would be something they want to mention. It's certainly something Hollis should be proud of and it just seems like a glaring omission.
Also, assuming he is getting his degree, is it accurate to indicate that he is foregoing his "senior season"? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to note that he is foregoing his "final year of eligibility"?
Apologies if this has been raised and addressed. I looked back in the thread and didn't see anything, other than most of us making that same assumption that he is graduating.

The school isn't going to discuss his academic standing. The word has been he's on track to graduate in the spring, but if you're looking for confirmation, I don't think we'll get it until he either walks at the graduation ceremony or doesn't.
As for the media - no one is doing any real reporting on this. They're just writing what was in the press release and looking at the roster where he is listed as a junior.

Hollis had some very good games, including driving and creating his own shots, when opponents played man defense. When he gets into tryouts and scrimmages and summer league against other prospects playing mostly man to man, I expect he will do very well because he has the size and skills to be a difficult matchup, knows the difference between a good shot and a bad shot better than anyone since Jonathan Wallace, knows how to cut, move, space, and spot up off the ball, and has become a good man defender.

All I hope is that he finishes out his classes this semester and even if he hasn't graduated exactly by the end of the year that he's close enough that he can finish his degree the following summer. As long as he's not hurting our APR and Graduation rates I'm fine with his decision.
I hope he gets drafted and continues to improve his game and becomes a valuable NBA contributer. It will be good for Georgetown to have a pure wing in the league. It will help with recruiting. I think the team will be fine. Yes his loss will hurt, but with the proper development in the offseason of the returning players.
Starting line up of Markel, Greg, Otto, Nate, and a Center will be pretty darn good. We've got solid depth with Jabril, DSR, Mikael, Moses, Adams, Bowen, Bolden. I see an 8 man rotation out of that easily. Obviously there are a lot of question marks including who else will join the team with 2 open scholarships.

I agree with the sentiments on this board that (1) he graduated so academically he's done what he came here to do and (2) he can develop just as much if not more, playing in the pros somewhere next year. The only thing I would say is that I didn't want to leave college early because the real world is much less fun those first few years after college. But if you're ready to work, then more power to you. Ultimately, I am extremely thankful Hollis came here and impressed at how he developed and grateful for his contributions to Gtown and the class he demonstrated. I only wish him the best of luck.
