JTIII is a good tournament coach. The final four and sweet sixteen teams are indicative of that.
We've had success with him before.
I think the previous 3 years will be an anomaly as things with this program move forward.
This year, could have been an NIT year given the circumstances. We overachieved somewhat to be honest.
I still say we have one of the best coaches in the country with JTIII. We had some problems that he has fixed within one year already and we are still a work in progress.
I don't see Calipari, Pitino, or Coach K and sure not Roy Williams doing what JTIII did with this roster this year.

We were up 10 and pretty much cruising halfway through the first half. And then it all went haywire.
It's odd but we always seem to be more poised at the beginning of the season than we are at the end. C'est la vie.

Thank you to JT3 for his comments on how well this teamN especially the seniors representing our institution. For every guru. RDF and Problem of Dog, there is a JT3, Henry Sims and Jason Clark, and for that, I can be thankful.

I've only read a few of the prior posts, so I might repeat some thoughts: - The Hoyas lost this on the boards. That's all. Sure, there were some other misses.
- The refs were atrocious today, and despite the rebounding problems, we would have won if it weren't for Henry being sent to the bench along with the rest of crap calls. There were so many anticipation calls on drives, there was no point to the refs being out there.
- NC State made shots down the stretch when we were defending well. We didn't at the very end. Sometimes it just comes down to that.
- If JTIII is not a tournament coach, neither is Bill Self, Coach K, Boeheim, Calhoun and just about every other coach -- all of whom have been the victim of multiple flameouts and consecutive years of early tourney bowouts.

I am very proud of the team this season. They overachieved hugely. I don't see why it's so offensive to you to point out flaws. Not sure if you can hear me from up on your high horse, but I'm very thankful for those three people as well. Disgraceful my ass. You know what? Next time you feel compelled to respond to one of my posts - and you seem to be unable to resist doing so - don't. You'll be ignored anyway. Now go back to reading into every post and responding stupidly and inappropriately.

A sweeter end to the year would have been nice. However, ".....Georgetown finished 24-9 and one basket shy of the Sweet 16. It played over its head all season and lost to another over-achieving team. Not sure there’s anything wrong with that". “We weren’t picked to do anything in the beginning of the season. Everybody doubted us,” senior Jason Clark said. “But as a group we believed in each other, and we proved a lot of people wrong.” JTIII is a good tournament coach. The final four and sweet sixteen teams are indicative of that. We've had success with him before. I think the previous 3 years will be an anomaly as things with this program move forward. Just Felt like we were back on our heels reacting and instead of throwing the punches like we did vs Belmont. Agree with this. The attacking mentality just wasn't there for a long stretch in the middle of the game, and the lead was too much to overcome once it did come back. I thought NC State played well and did a great job holding on at the end. That said, terrific year and sad to see Henry & Jason go. This was an important year for the program and the team did well. Lot of young talent, size and IMO..the desire to get better. Agree with this as well. It was the first season in a while where I thought there was significant improvement as the year went on, even if it didn't always result in wins. And of course, loved the attitude and emphasis on defense. So much to look forward to.

That's absurd. lousiville was close to being the number 1 ranked team at the beginning of the season.

Madgesdiq jumped the shark in '05. ;D Here's a simple question: Why do you read the posts that upset you when there is an ability that makes it so you don't have to do that? If you are so incapable of understanding that criticism isn't hatred or that opinions are just that, then why respond? I don't get upset with others saying what they do--hell you think I live in my parents basement and repeatedly state this everytime you bring me up and beyond that-why you consistently bring me up is beyond odd-but it's not a big deal. If that makes you/your day better--feel free to keep doing so. It's not a big deal. Am I wrong? Sure--who isn't? I will also admit when I am. Does it really bother you that much? If so--maybe this messageboard thing isn't right for you--feel free to come over to the basement and I'll have my parents pick up the tab on a pizza and some brownies. ;D

Sure, the team exceeded expectations across the board, especially on the defensive end. But finishing 2-3 leaves me a little flat. In a couple days I think with some perspective I'll feel better. But right now it stings. I really wanted to be playing next week in Sweet 16. I think team deserved it and was capable. Damn.

We really need Markel to step up his game next year. If not we will have the same problems next year. Offensively we could be worst. At least Jason and Hollis could get to the rim occassionally. I don't see Otto, Whitt, or JT55 being able to do it at all as of now. Maybe one of them will improve there off the dribble game but as of now the prospects look bleak.........

Great year by the team and coaching staff. Disappointing that in the end they fall to a low (double digit) seed in the NCAAs. Oh, well. At least I can watch "The Walking Dead" tonight and temporarily forget about my blues.
I actually feel bad for Wilbon. I was smart enough not to pick the Hoyas going past the Sweet 16 in my bracket, let alone the Final Four. I actually wanted to win the office pool after all.
First of all props to Henry for having a fantastic season that basically no one saw coming. Tip of the hat especially for what he did for the Hoyas in the BET. Thank you, sir. However this game today reminded me why I was so disappointed when Moses and later Tyler had their seasons wiped out or cut short as a result of health reasons. They were extra security in the paint as well as guys who could bang around a bit in there. There are plenty of doubts about those two guys considering neither has played even 20 minutes apiece for this team. But I got real excited about what Moses was doing in the KL last summer and the effectiveness that Tyler was showing in his final game this season before his heart condition became an issue. I’m not saying those guys would have started this season (although there are a few who thought if Moses hadn’t gone down with that ACL injury he was the favorite to be the starting center for the team). I am saying though they could have provided some ingredients needed in certain games (like today’s). I see them as players who could possibly provide interior scoring as well as the type of big bodies who could get others into foul trouble. Again this is just my opinion. Henry did everything for this team except provide consistent points in the paint. Of course that may just be the result of the system because Henry is not often on the blocks when the Hoyas have the ball. Moses and Tyler seem like the guys who would do that however. The question then becomes would III want them there.
Evidence suggests that III prefer his big men to be the type of guys who face the basket and facilitate the offense. Problem is from what I know/have learned about Moses and Tyler’s games, I’m not sure if the two of them would be any good at that. Now III could help them improve in that area, but part of me worries about that. These are two guys who may simply be better suited for pounding it inside and scoring in the paint. Yet what Hoya big these past eight seasons has played like that? The only big guy whom possibly spent the majority of his time with his back-to-the-basket was Vaughn (and I may be wrong about that). Unfortunately Vaughn was either not good enough to be reliable enough on that front or the team never had a scheme to keep throwing the ball into him in the paint. Maybe a bit of both. If Moses and or Tyler turn out to be effective on the block as scorers, I have my doubts that III will let then clog up space in the interior. Heck, he may not even play them until they master the Princeton offense which is why Moses likely didn’t get any run his freshmen season, even when the team needed more big bodies.
To make matters worse Nate Lubick has not shown even a modest development of his post up game. It would appear that III has him on the floor because he can rebound, because he is a great passer and because he can at times hit a long range shot. But requiring him to post up and score on his man? III seems content that the kid doesn’t do much of this at all. And that makes the cynic in me believe even more so that III doesn’t have much use for guys who can score repeatedly off of post moves; that he has no interest in riding a horse like that even if he had one. Nothing against Nate but how come he got so many minutes his frosh season and Moses got next to nothing? People close to the program were saying that Moses was already a fantastic defender even a s a frosh. Still he got no playing time. Was it just because he was reportedly foul prone during practices? Or was it because he could not make the correct backdoor pass? What is the priority here?
Like everyone else I would love it if Noel ended up at Gtown. And I am sure III could improve his all-around game like no other college coach. But putting that kid into the best position to win big games in the post season? I have some doubts. What would III do with Anthony Davis? Have him face up on offense half the time which would keep him from being at the right spot to get offensive putbacks and the occasional alley-oop slam?
Let me be clear. With or without Noel I do like the potential of the Hoyas’ interior players. Moses and Tyler could be bruisers. This game aside I like Mikael’s upside in the high post and low post. I still think Nate has the tools to be an effective player in college but he must be required –challenged-instructed to look for his ::bleeping:: shot on the block. For a team that is already struggling to put up points it should be obvious that it is deadly for this team to have a starter on the floor that allows defenses to play five on four
Oh, well. I have more to say about turnovers, pressing, attacking...the usual stuff. But no need to go into all of that at this moment.
Farewell, Jason and Henry. God bless.

How IS he a tournament coach lately? His teams have probably underperformed seed expectations more than any other coach in the last 5 years. No one said he should be fired, but these tournament exits are inexcusable. I can't believe I'm wasting time responding to this, but this wasn't some ordinary 11, but even if it was, you're talking about a top 45 NCAA team. Top 15 teams lose to top 45 teams all the time, particularly where the matchup isn't right. People who draw conclusions based on a 1- or a 3-game sample instead of a 90-game sample are called idiots. No, no, no. First of all, you're not going to get a 90 game sample on whether he's a "tournament coach", so sorry to disappoint the statistician in you. Secondly, he has underperformed seed expectations drastically. As in, how many wins seeds at that level get on average. Now that is a large sample size and we've drastically underperformed over the last 4 tournament appearances. Using Performance Against Seed Expectations (how many games a team is expected to win given their seed), Georgetown should have won 7.25 games in its last four tournament appearances. We've won 2. That's a difference of -5.25 games. That's not good.

Really proud of the team for a season that exceeded expectations, but this was a really disappointing way to go out. I hate to to a shot at a kid who seems like a hard worker, but when Lubick is out there we are playing 4 on 5 offensively. Absolutely shocked JTIII gave him so many minutes today. Sims has to be smarter about playing under control.
JTIII is a good coach, but ultimately this is a program that has lost to lesser teams (all double digit seeds) its last four tournaments. I think we may need to start recalibrating expectations - JTIII is not a guy you can trust to make deep tournament runs. Frankly, the FF year seems like a huge aberration at this point.

Problem of Dog, the problem is that "the last five years" completely ignores both 2007 and 2006, both years in which Georgetown overperformed its seeding (by one game both times, but once with a big upset, and once by reaching the final four). Things aren't so bad when you include that. And you simply have to include that.
The bottom line for me is this: if you're being "upset" in the NCAA tournament, it means you had a pretty damned good year. So, we've had a bunch of pretty damned good years recently.
