rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=ys-syracuse_basketball_investigation_drug_violation_030512During a decade in which Syracuse basketball reached the pinnacle of national prominence, the program was awash in positive drug tests and, in many cases, failed to adhere to its internal drug policy while playing ineligible players, Yahoo! Sports has learned.
Over the course of a three-month investigation, four sources with intimate knowledge of the Syracuse men’s basketball program told Yahoo! Sports at least 10 players since 2001 have tested positive for a banned recreational substance or substances. The sources said all 10 of those players were allowed to practice and play at times when they should have been suspended by the athletic department, including instances when some players may not have known of their own ineligibility. The four sources said Syracuse violated its drug policy in at least two areas: failing to properly count positive tests; and playing ineligible players after they should have been subject to suspension.
[...]
Two sources told Yahoo! Sports that of the 10 players, at least one player continued to play after failing four tests and another player played after failing three. Nice to see the Big East's soon-to-be-named Coach of the Year keeping things clean.

Surprising that Pete Thamel wasn't all over this one.

I can't wait to hear the 'B..bu..bu..but...every college kid does drugs!' lines.

This is pretty damning. I would question any other report, but this is Yahoo Sports with Pat Forde's name on it. This is real.
Time for Syracuse and Boeheim to be held accountable, once and for all.

I look forward to Boeheim's press conference where he slanders Forde and Robinson.

Surprising that Pete Thamel wasn't all over this one. Had this appeared in the New York Times, the story undoubtedly would have said, "Syracuse, the chief rival of Georgetown, which gained notoriety for recruiting Marc Egerson, who had seven Fs on his transcript, and a neighbor of Binghamton, which hired Kevin Broadus, who recruited Egerson to Georgetown, ..."

A quick glance at the Syracuse boards shows they really don't get it (or want to). Yes, all programs have guys that have done drugs. And probably some during the season though you hope not.
But to consistently cover up and violate your own disciplinary policies is disgusting. They are there for a reason, and we all know the only reason they were overridden is Boeheim needed to win a game.

Then again, I'm impressed that they even have rules. Dips.

www.nunesmagician.com/"As Syracuse fans, this isn't exactly shocking news. We've heard stories, we've seen tweets and we all know someone who knows someone who knows what "really happened" with this player or that player. Newsflash, every program and every school has the same story. We just got caught." No, not every school and every program has the same story. They just don't get it.

This is a non-story. Some players smoked dope over the past 10 years and didn't get punished? Nobody cares, especially the high school players who likely smoke dope themselves. You think Georgetown players don't drink underage, etc.?

You think Georgetown players don't drink underage, etc.? That's not the issue and you know it. The problem is that Syracuse caught them doing it, and failed to following its own set of rules.

You think Georgetown players don't drink underage, etc.? During the season? I hope not. And it's not unreasonable to think that they don't. My friends on other Georgetown varsity teams didn't drink/smoke during the season. Also, do you really think that if players violated a drug policy that JT3/Georgetown had (or has) that they wouldn't be punished? The problem here for Cuse is not that their players smoked, it was that they repeatedly ignored their own policy saying that players would be punished if they failed drug tests.

You think Georgetown players don't drink underage, etc.? It's not a question of whether the students did it or not. I really couldn't care less whether our guys smoke or drink, so long as it doesn't affect their academics and athletics. Hell, it probably makes them better members of the student body. The story is that when they had rules, Syracuse broke them to win games. They have a habit of flouting university rules for basketball purposes (see, e.g., Devendorf's ludicrous reprieve). This is yet another chapter.
