Whatever keeps us on the opposite side of the bracket from Syracuse, I'm fine with, whether it's the 2 or the 6 seed. I know we can beat any of the teams in the way on a neutral court and I REALLY want Syracuse on Saturday night at MSG.

The easiest way I've found to understand it:
--Win on Saturday = 2 seed
--Loss on Saturday: start with GU as a 6 seed, and make it one seed better for every loss by ND, USF, or Cincy.
It'll be clearer by our game time, since ND plays Friday night and USF plays at noon. Cincy plays at the same time we are.

There are 16 potential combinations of wins and losses among the Hoyas, Marquette, Notre Dame, USF and Cincinnati. Syracuse is locked in as the 1 and Louisville is locked in as the 7.
Given each set of game outcomes, these are the seeds.

It shows how competitive the BE is. 12 wins and you might be in 6th place? And one more win and you are in 2nd. Yeesh. I actually think it exposes the weakness of the Big East this year, in as much as there are fewer quality teams this season and thus better records at the top, worse records at the bottom, and not as many quality tournament teams crunched in the middle like in years past.

Good point Ranch. As for our seeding - if we can't earn our spot by winning, we deserve wherever we end up. No backing in, now we have every reason to win and grab the #2.

I'd rather play USF in our 1st game than Louisville (who we'll get if we're a #2), but then again, I'd love to beat Marquette on Saturday, so bring on the Ville if we earn that right.

I don't think we can even assume that we'd play either of those teams. This is the Big East Tournament we're discussing. Whoever they match up with could easily fight and pull off the upset.

I really am in awe of the Big East Tournament seeding scenarios. It's like, Madness or something...
Oh what, you say, look at the calendar? It's now March 1.

For those of you haven't seen it yet, DFW did a great job breaking down the scenarios on the front page.

According to the latest Pomeroy:
The Hoyas have a 43% chance of winning at Marquette. Notre Dame has an 83% chance of winning at home against Providence. South Florida has a 58% chance of winning at home against West Virginia. Cincinnati has a 55% chance of winning at Villanova.
Consequently, the Pomeroy calculation of the likelihood of each final seed for the Hoyas is:
2 seed - 43% 3 seed - 2% 4 seed - 14% 5 seed - 26% 6 seed - 15%
We have a cumulative 59% chance of earning a double-bye and a 60% chance of being on the other side of the bracket from Syracuse.

Thanks HoyaChris! I think some additional clarification is in order however. If we win at Marquette, we have a 100% chance of being the two seed. If we lose at Marquette, our odds of backing into one of the remaining double-bye seeds are as follows: 3rd seed- 3.2% (i.e., there is a 3.2% chance that ND, USF, and Cincy all lose) 4th seed- 33.7% (i.e., there is a 33.7% that any two of the three lose) As you noted, that sums to a cumulative 59% likelihood of a double-bye, one way or the other.

Pomeroy has lost some luster in my eyes this year given how comparatively mediocre and inconsistent Wisconsin has performed and how consistently they've ranked in his top 5 or so.

This might bw the wrong thread to post this in but how can uconn still be seriously considered to make the NCAA tournament??? Linardi still has them as an at large bid!! They have a loosing conference record and have lost like nice of there last twelve games. No way they should make the tournament unless they win there last game and get to the finals of the big east tournament .....delusional..
