What is the ratio of KNOWN pedophiles in the PSU population over the last 50 years? Maybe 5 in a million. What is the ratio of KNOWN pedophiles in the American priest population over the last 50 years? Maybe 1 in 50. So how many more incidents were covered up by the church than were by PSU? Joe has given millions to the Catholic church for youth over the years. I don't understand what the argument you are making is. Giving millions doesn't absolve you of something like this. PSU covered over two different child rapes witnessed and reported by two unrelated adults. How do you dismiss that type of evidence? Arguing about which organization is more egregious in allowing child molestation to go on is kind of missing the point - which is that it happened and was covered over.

Yeah, sky, to me that's almost like comparing killing with a knife, and killing with a gun. Either way, it's still killing, and it's still wrong.
There's no use debating which is more wrong.
Furthermore, no one is saying that sexual assault against minors is a widespread problem among the Penn State population. It's pretty clear at this point that these are isolated incidents committed by one man. However, the perceived "coverup" is what has at least one comparing this to the coverup of pedophile priests in the Catholic Church.

Point is there is one major pedophile at PSU, there were hundreds in the priests in this country, all were covered up. There will be many more people coming forwartd on this Jerry deal, he was probably doing it for years. I was shocked that he retired in 1999, too young to retire when you are on the top of our coaching game.
Perhaps he was forced to retire. Probably so.

Excerpt There are two kinds of sports fans this morning: Those who are sickened and outraged by the callous, selfish way Paterno handled the news that his former right-hand man and friend — a guy he coached and worked with for 32 years — was believed to be a rapist and a predator who used the football facility as a place to corner his young victims.
And those who haven’t yet read the 23-page report from the grand jury.
You cannot digest the details and feel anything but contempt for Joe Cardinal Paterno.

I would rather not. Something tells me, it will not be something I can "unread." You are correct about that Boz. But if we don't read things like this, or the Catholic Church's scandals, or see photos of the German Holocaust, or lynchings in the old South, or any number of attrocities.... they are far more likely to be repeated. Reading the Grand Jury report, with so many specific accusations from such a wide group of people and 8 specifically identified victims (plus another known only as BK)... it is hard to believe there isn't an overwhelmingly convincing argument against Sandusky -- and those in charge.

I think Sue will tell Joe, he has had enough.
We didn't learn our lesson from your references of the past Sir Saxa, perhaps we might this time.

The board of trustees has yet to determine the precise timing of Paterno’s exit, but it is clear that the man who has more victories than any other coach at college football’s top level and who made Penn State a prestigious brand will not survive to coach another season. Discussions about how to manage his departure have begun, according to the two people.

If true, a sad way to end a legendary career.
I think those of us who believed that Paterno was past his expiration date as head of PSU football always knew that the actual end would not be a pretty thing, but obviously, no one expected anything this ugly.

Andy Staples from SI.com: "To people writing saying Paterno did what he was supposed to: An employee comes to you and says he saw boy get molested. What do you do?"
THAT is why JoePa is as guilty as all of them. The assistant should've gone to the cops before he even went to JoePa. JoePa should've gone to the cops. At the very least, JoePa should've followed up.

It's not sad. Sad would be if he had had a stroke, or broken his hip. The allegations are of someone raping little boys while under Paterno's employ (apparently, the abuse started in 1994, before he retired), then, after getting caught, none of the behemoth of Penn State football reporting him to the law and not breaking ties with him (by allowing Sandusky to still hold camps at satellite campuses). Sandusky is innocent until proven guilty. But what is horrifying is that people found out that a rapist who preyed on little kids and didn't do everything possible to cut ties with him. If you hear rumors that some guy on your block is raping kids, you don't send your kids over to play with him, and you do your best to warn other parents about it.

Also, JoePa was just not some employee, or a generic manager. He was the head of a major college program with complete control over the entire program. With great power comes great responsibility...
