Nerlens Noel recruitment is beyond strange. Hoyas should be among the final 15 he lists at end of Summer-then again they were in top 5 he gave Dave Telep yesterday (Telep is a very credible guy in recruiting industry--something that isn't easy to find) and it's just getting very weird. KGHoya (who is killing it with his coverage) got response--so that is also credible. So just realize we'll see Hoyas after him until he decides they are/aren't his choice.
Hoyas also involved with BABC guard Jaylon Brantley--not sure how serious but he provided a list of schools contacting him and they were on it.
Georgetown is also monitoring Jamal Artis from Baltimore and he's at Peach Jam--they watched him play Boo Williams and he's a 6'6 combo who can play some PG too. Class of '12. Seen his stock rise quite a bit this Spring/Summer.
Semaj Christon will be going to Prep at Brewster Academy-which is where fellow Hoya target TJ Warren will be playing this year.
Hoyas have started to show some interest in '13 Oak Hill player RJ Curlington.
Anthony Bennett has stated he's looking to be a Spring Signee and wants to narrow his list down to 10 soon and go from there. Hoyas get listed on most updates and KG said he mentioned them.
Notes from attending the Best Buy Classic:
1. III/Hoyas need to start hitting Houston Select 15U team hard. They have at least 8 D-1 prospects but I'd say 5 Elite level prospects for future. They are a lot like Atlanta Celtics but without the heavy set Price/Adams from a year ago that I saw--these guys are all gazelles who are multi skilled and at one point they had a lineup of 6'6, 6'5, 6'11, 6'7, and 6'8 on the court and the fact they play above the rim and pass so well is outstanding. Justis Winslow was their most polished player--but liked JC Washington a lot, Khadem Lattin the big man has bright future and young man named Swift was just jumping out the gym.
2. Landen Lucas. Disappointing to watch in person. Plays hard, hustles, and just doesn't get much done. At least he didn't in games I watched. For a guy with rep on the boards-he spent a lot of time in FT area on both ends of court and just didn't possess a jumper, or any ability to explode contend for tough boards--got some standard boards and had tough play with team down 1 in OT where he lost ball out of bounds and put team in hole. Oustanding/classy young man--but I'd expect him to remain on WC.
3. Really liked Nigel Williams Goss the PG for Lucas Double Pump team. Good on both ends, good leadership and kept an average team in games today. He's a class of '13 and Hoyas had some interest last Summer with him. See why.
4. Kaleb Tarzewski had a workmanlike day in front of John Calipari, assistants from Arizona, Kansas, and UNC. Team won both games and he runs floor well but still looks like young/raw big man I saw play with Nate 2 years ago. Needs more explosion and aggression. Nice touch with hook--but predictable and always goes over left shoulder--mechanical with shots/post moves but nice feel for passing/unselfish and well coached as NE Playaz always are.
5. Tom Crean was there--still "Crean" like. I'm not like most in praise of his haul. Really like Jeremy Hollowell his SF recruit but Yogi Ferrell is a role player right now-a poor man's Isaiah Thomas without the knack for hitting shots, and Hanner Parea looks better then he plays. Ron Patterson was nice player and the African big had hands of stone. Crean stomped around as if he owned the place and will win the Big 10. This is shocking.
6. Charles Mann has gotten hype and in front of Doug West, UGA Mark Fox and Assistant, and numerous other assistants he had a tough day. Best player on his team was Alabama FB recruit Reggie Ragland--who has nice feel for game/good footwork.
7. Harrison Twins had Terps front and center for their games-Assistant Coach (also for Shaquille Cleare) and twins were as advertised although Aaron Harrison suffered bad shoulder injury (looked like a dislocation) and had to leave game they ended up losing to NE Playaz.
8. Atlanta Celtics were shorthanded but really liked Darian Clark's game--as I did last Summer. He gets up and down is physical defender and does dirty work for them.
9. DC Assault 16's were in Twin Cities and won their pool easily and I wish I could tell you more--but they had jerseys made of green mesh with no numbers on their best player today-a 6'6-6'7 forward and a few guys had jerseys on--most easily recognizable being Romelo Trimble. Not shooter he was hyped to be but a very high basketball IQ and thought this group played better/more cohesive then last year's more hyped 17U team. Field is easier for the 16's though as this tourney is thinned out quite a lot due to Under Armour Event in Milwaukee I'm hoping to get to later today. (sleep is for when I pass--too much basketball to watch, LOL)

You don't need no stinkin' sleep, lol. Keep up the great work (and KGHoya), you guys are better than the people who get paid to do this stuff.

Great report RDF, clearly you call it like you see it. I'm still surprised that we seem to be a player for Noel given our lack of relationship with Leo's program for 20 plus years.

Here's an interesting new rule that I think is long over due and I'm really excited they're enacting.
"The good news: There's another NCAA rule that should dovetail with the overhaul to the recruiting calendar. Next summer, if players enroll in summer classes, they'll be able to work out with coaches so long as they're in school. "
I think this is going to help college basketball a lot and especially Georgetown.

Are these practices self-guided or are they run by the Kenner coaches, or what?

A very antiquated rule IMO, going back to when college basketball was closer to high school basketball than pro basketball. But officially the players can't meet with JTIII and staff in a basketball practice environment until mid October, so they're definitely not running Princeton sets at a designated time every day this summer. Of course schools, including Georgetown, find ways around this and it becomes a big charade like a lot of other NCAA rules. Seems like this rule change would eliminate that and just let coaches and players work together all summer.

The quarterfinals are set in North Augusta.
Georgia Stars v Mac Irvin Fire
Memphis v Texas Titans
Oakland Soliders v Playaz Basketball Club
Team Takeover v BABC
Good news: Four great games
Bad news: They are all at the same time
So where is JT3 going to be? Is he going to go and watch Team Takeover vs BABC (his first time watching Noel at this event) or is he going to go watch Kyle Anderson and the Playaz?

RDF, Ragland is a kid that many hoped would grow a few more inches, so he could dominate on the court, but just never did. I always thought he was a better FB recruit anyway, but coming out of middle school he was projected as a two-sport star. He's a really good football player and will earn money from that. Hoops wise, he's smart, is strong and carves out space on the block because of his strength. At 6'3-6'4, he'll be a nice DE for Alabama. Plays in a protected program too, so foolishness shouldn't be an issue.

Agreed. We're in the home stretch with a 2012 recruit* - we've got to assume that's where the HC will be. No matter how great a coup Noels would be, there are still plenty of games over the next year for the coaching staff to attend.
*- make that a pair of 2012 recruits. Being there for Anderson is also being there for Myles Davis.

Well I'll be sure to post or tweet where JT3 is later on. He took in the Takeover game this morning at 9, the Playaz at 1015, and I'm not sure about 1130. I was watching Randle and Williams go it and I didn't want to give up my prime seat to track down 3. Hunter showed up at the Boo game at some point though.

Getting a player like Anderson can be used to get a player like Noel. Concentrate on getting the best 2012 recruits for the program and then go after the 2013 ones.

In an interview on the Pitt Rivals site today, Myles Davis sounds like a guy who could be committing to Georgetown. He said he's 50-50 on committing tomorrow, and he sounds like he's down to Georgetown-Pitt-Xavier. I'm cool with it because 1) he's been scoring up a storm all year on the AAU circuit 2) he plays with and is friends with Kyle Anderson and 3) we need outside shooting. Also, his name is Myles Davis which will lend itself to some great nickname potential.
"That's a dream school for me; that was the school that I watched when I was younger and growing up. When I got an offer from them, it was a shock. I was happy. And it's in D.C. and in the Big East, it's a known program, they're in the top 25 or top 15 every year. Coach Thompson is a great coach and he told me there's space for me to play if I take advantage of it."

JTIII watching Anderson during the quarter finals.
Based on early returns both Playaz and Team takeover will be out of the Peach Jam. So either JTIII will be able to finally watch Noel whose BABC is kicking Team takeover's but right now or he'll head else where.

Davis said he would like to wait until after the July period to announce. He also said he would like to visit WVU before deciding.
