Rudy didn't deserve it. He had a few good games, but not the impact Jeff had. Jeff earned his spot, and Rudy stayed in it because of his hype. It was Rudy Gay's award to lose this year. Without the hype coming in the beginning of the season, Rudy would not have won this award. I think it is pretty clear, this was Jeff's award, and Jeff's alone. But politics is politics. The media can never admit they are wrong about anything.

We'll, it's the first one for a Hoya since Iverson (according to the Post), so I'm pretty happy.
This season, we've had the best conference start since the Iverson days and the first ROY since the Iverson days. I'd say that's pretty good...

Outstanding job Jeff Green, congratulations!
We all know why Rudy was even mentioned, the media never admits defeat. I know it won't bother Jeff, but hopefully it's motvation to get the chance to play Rudy tomorrow and show the national media who is better!

The post article does comment that Jeff beat Rudy in every notable statistical category. THe only way they split this is if W's weighed heavily.

Greta job, JG - let's not be bitter, boys and girls, Jeff was certainly more consistent, Gay more spectacular at times. A wonderful foundation for the future - maybe we can get the next 2 or 3 ROY's, coinciding with our return to glory.

Tell me during the season, when Gay was spectacular at all or even more than Jeff. Why!??, because he made a few dunks that made Sportscenter. I've watched Gay play, and there is no way he should have won this award. I'm sorry, making thunderous dunks and having a couple of double digit games does not constitute a Rookie of the year award in the Big East.

It seems that some people on this board didn't watch the Hoyas - UConn matchup last week. Gay was unstoppable, as was his team. We should be happy for Jeff that he got a piece of the award.

Okay, one game. One game does not equal Big East ROY. We are talking about an entire season. Green had a good game in that game. He was not "dominated" by Gay (who scored only 20 points to Jeff's 17). Lets get that clear. Green outplayed Gay the first time they met, so what is your point. Gay didn't earn ROY, it was given to him because of hype from ESPN and Big East media outlets.

I think it's absolutely true that the media will not admit it was wrong about players like Gay. That being said, I think Gay will be quite a force in the New Big East. Just like Jeff!
Congrats again to Jeff. Let's hope we get a few more BEROYs in the years to come!

so you are saying the coaches, who voted on this, voted based on media hype for gay and not how they viewed each player individually? no offense, but that is a weak assertion

so you are saying the coaches, who voted on this, voted based on media hype for gay and not how they viewed each player individually? no offense, but that is a weak assertion Of all the stakeholders in the college game, the coaches are the easiest to influence. Do you think Louis Orr of SHU had time to assess Jeff Green coming into the year or do you think it is more probable that he voted with the hype he had heard? The same goes for every good coach that is obsessed about his own team and could care less what recruit went where. You are giving coaches way too much credit as all-knowing. For example, look at the coaches poll, how long did it take for Maryland to fall out of the top 25 and at 16-6 we were still ranked in the 30's in the coaches poll and #27 in the AP. The coaches do not have the time to assess each unfamiliar freshman that enters the league and many times it simply comes down to who these guys have played. Teams we played once, likely voted for Gay. The coaches lobby for their own player, performance is taken into account and then the hype defintely influences the final outcome.

weak weak weak. i'm sure the coaches know how good players in their own league are. they don't say, well rudy gay was higher rated out of high school than jeff green so i'm voting for rudy. that is ridiculous. they are not idiots, give them a little credit. why can't you just be happy jeff won the award. i could care less if he shared it with rudy gay, ben gay, randall gay or anyone else. this entire argument is idotic.

Actually the coaches are influenced by the media. That is not a weak argument at all. FYI, your opinion is not the only one on planet Earth.

I think they both deserved it and this is the best solution, but Gay was probably helped in some manner by media hype.
Coaches don't give a damn about awards or poll voting. I bet you half the head coaches gave it to an assistant or Sports Information to fill out.
Either way, does it matter? When Jeff is old and gray, and his son tells his grandkid that his grandpa was BE newcomer of the year back in aught-five, I doubt anyone will care that he shared it Rudy Gay, except for the trivia value of knowing that he shared it with the player who brought down the University of Connecticut by his courageous admittance of pay for play and various illicit goings-on.

i think it was the best for both players, that way no one is slighted. what is this i heard about jeff being 6'10" now? an offseason of lifting and refining his skills and we're going to have a much bigger, more physical reggie williams on our hands. or even danny manning.
lets just pound the hall and worry about gay tomorrow!

SF - those are pretty strong condemning words about Gay. I suggest you retract them or furnish proof.

Congratulations to the much deserved Green but the fact that it is shared is very GAY!
