Since they are young, we need to use our press sporadically, using it for a couple of possessions at a time to throw them off, then taking it off to keep them from getting into a rhythm against it. Similarly, I expect us to use different defenses in the half court to keep them off-balance. Now that we have to bench to show different looks, there is no reason we should not win this game.

Can't wait to see our win in person. Gotta beat my GF's parent's alma mater bad or I won't hear the end of it...

Unlike some of our other games, IMO Memphis is over-rated and will not be #16 at the end of the year. Therefore, we need to win this game. Since it is on the road, it does not matter about the margin, but a win should be expected given Witherspoon is likely out, they are super young and we have the experience edge by far. Totally agree.

One thing to watch closely: steals. One ... well, two ... well, really four ... stats that favor both Ds and neither O:
- The Hoyas are pretty bad about giving up steals: 11.3, for #288 on pom - The Tigers are pretty good at forcing them: 14.5, for #5 on pom
We matchup in the Hoyas' favor on the other side of the ball, though:
- Memphis O: 11.4, #298 - Georgetown D: 11.3, #86
Edge to Memphis, but still, it'll be interesting to see how steals affect the outcome.

This type of D - that can get a lot of steals - doesn't scare me with these Hoyas. Memphis will get their steals, but we probably get more than our fair share of easy buckets. Jason seemed to turn the ball over quite a bit against Mizzou with some lazy passes - just need him to tighten that up a bit.

God, video is the bane of the useful internet. Gary Parrish is a mediocre writer to begin with, and now I have to listen to him for five minutes for the "information" I could have gleaned in a 30-second skim of his article? It's like a poor man's version of Bill Simmons moving from articles to podcast. Hey, this new technology will disguise my sloppy work! Yeah!
Pass.

Also, Thursday's game, according to the video, is apparently part of the 2010 NBA Playoffs.

Interesting that Witherspoon might play. I had not seen that elsewhere.

Sounds like Pastner would be a fool to play him. 12 days after arthro, 2 days after he "could get up and down a little" - would seem to smack of desperation to even consider putting him in and risking further injury.

seems like gamemanship to me like syracuse last year pretending that Onuauku might play in the NCAAs.

The two things I'm worried about:
- Defensive rebounding fell apart against Loyola. Not sure why, but that's one of the few things we've been good at on D. I know it's not a huge Memphis strong suit, but it needs to be there.
- Three point defense. I'm already assuming Crawford is going 8-12 or something ridiculous against us. Our defensive breakdowns seem to come all sorts of ways, but giving up O rebounds and giving up lots of 3s seem to be the constants.
Combine that with an off day shooting and a Fedex crowd, and I'm a lot more nervous than most of you, I think.

We're all more nervous thaqn we let on; still, given our leadership and composure this season, this is a game we should win if we play with intensity. I think part of the rebounding problem against Loyola was the result of some letting up after the game was in the bag - understandable but not acceptable. JTIII will have addressed this.

I was hoping that was true regarding the rebounding being due to letting up in the second half. But that wasn't the case. They actually did better rebounding agianst us in the first half than the second. 16-10 total, 9-1 offensive. They had an OR% of 50% in the first half. Only 33% in the second. We actually out rebounded them 19-17 in the second half. they led 7-5 in Offensive rebounds in the second.

One thing is certain: Memphis is no push-over.
So, play a perfect game. A stop at their end, every time. A score at your end, every time. Go for it (a no-hit shout out, 10-under par, 6-0, 6-0). An impossible dream?
Perhaps, but it happens if you make it happen.
Good luck Hoyas.
