Memphis plays Texas A&M Corpus Christi tonight. Hopefully that helps wash the taste of the austin Peay OT game out of their mouth.
Like several have said the thing I'm most worried about is the crowd. Memphis has a great fan base mostly because they've got nothing else to do in that town, but that's besides the point. The game will be a sellout and they'll be loud. Take note hoya season ticket holders.
They've got some talent, but less than they were supposed to have with Kendrick leaving the team, Witherspoon injured, and Garcia going over seas.
They don't do many things extremely well. The one thing they're really good at is stealing the ball. They're a pretty good defensive team overall. 23rd according to kenpom. Which makes them the second best defensive team we've faced this year.
They failed the only real test they've had so far. But I don't think this will be a walk in the park.

The Fed is always a tough place to play as visiting team. The Hoyas will have to weather the initial emotional wave their young players will be playing with especially the home grown Memphis players like Black and the Baltimore Barton brothers who are familiar with the Hoya guards and will want to prove something to Hoyas. If the hoyas can withstand this initial addrenalin rush and make them play some defense then they should be OK. Chris will have to be patient because he will get fouled alot but it won't be called on home team. he needs to just keep grinding it out. Run when presented but don't run just to run with them.

On December 23, hopefully most of the rabid student fans would have left for Christmas vacation. It might be more quiet than normal.

Memphis has a rotation of 9 players, and 7 are freshmen. If JT3 gives them defensive pressure from the start, we grab the defensive rebounds and maintain our offensive efficiency with good shot selection, then they will implode. No 30-footers from Clark unless we're ahead by 15.

The entire city of memphis lives and breathes memphis basketball. Probably because they don't have any other teams to support ( grizzlies don't count and there are no other pro sports teams). It's their non student fans that give them such a great fan base because their non student fans act like student fans. Plus as a state school most of the people that go there are local. Not many people are going to memphis if they don't already live around there (90% in state).

+1 to HSB and add that this is a HUGE game for them. Their conference sucks, it's a Top 10 opponent, and they've disappointed to date.
I don't think they've had a Top Ten win in Memphis in years, so this is a big opportunity for them.

This is a game we need to win if we hope to establish ourselves as a top tier team. We are 1-1 against top 20 teams on the road, our experience and patience should allow us to withstand their pressure and overcome the crowd.

FedEx is a tough place to play. I will be going witha friend and could only get tickets in the rafters.
What ever happened to Hoop club priority for road games?
Had a nightmare of having the home crowed bombarding us with barbeque.

"Thursday Memphis, Tenn. (Georgetown at Memphis) The college hoops schedule gives us one final gift before Christmas: a game between two entertaining ranked teams in the FedEx Forum in Memphis. The Hoyas wasted no time figuring out life after Greg Monroe this season; guards Austin Freeman, Chris Wright and Jason Clark have led John Thompson III's team to a thus-far impressive run through one of the most challenging nonconference schedules in the country. Memphis, on the other hand, holds worlds of promise -- those Tigers freshmen are incredibly talented -- but it's still a young team recovering from personnel losses and still figuring out how to win at the college level. It will have to do a lot of growing up to top the veteran Hoyas on Thursday." -ESPN's weekly watch

Yes, we will be getting their absolute best shot. But I still see this as a good match-up for us. We will attack their pressure and get a lot of easy buckets. Despite their athleticism, they aren't a great rebounding team, so just play solid defense, clean up the boards, attack the pressure, and we should come out of there with a solid win.

Wow. Talk about lack of depth of bigs. After Coleman and Black who are 6'9 and 6'8, they have virtually nothing. Hippolyte is 6'8 but has played just one game. After that, the next biggest guy who plays any real minutes is Will Barton at 6'6 and then Chris Crawford who is 6'4. Losing Witherspoon and Garcia really destroyed their height.

I knew about Witherspoon but what happened to Garcia? I was afraid he would draw a lot of fouls on Vaughn and Sims. Not because he is a prolific scorer but because he goes to boards hard and is big rugged center.

Not because he is a prolific scorer but because he goes to boards hard and is big rugged center. He left school to take a contract in Europe and it was clear that he was pushed out. Or that be him, I know that happened to one Memphis player

Well Hippolyte was red shirted but with the injuries/transfer they removed the red shirt from him for this last game and going forward. So he's pretty much like moses at this point. But the point still stands. They aren't that big.

I hate Memphis. My road trip to Memphis a few years back just before Christmas was miserable. We got crushed, the town was dead and they cancelled my flight and I had to stay an extra day. To this day, I still hate visiting Memphis, even though I cook at Memphis in May every year. I hope we take it to them and further prove just how good we are. I want this one really badly and it would make for an awesome Christmas present. Bring it Hoyas. Although I wasn't in Memphis for the game, I remember the Hoyas getting rolled by the Tigers in 2007 pretty well. It sucked. We beat Memphis at the phone booth the following season, but it was a sloppy game and did not fulfill my fantasies of revenge. So, despite the fact that we have the last victory in the series, Thursday's contest can be classified as a full-fledged REVENGE GAME for yours truly. I hope this year's seniors feel the same way. Let's ruin Tiger Christmas. That's interesting - the scoresheet says we didn't lose to Memphis...

The city was dead. DEAD. No bands on Beale, and walk two or three blocks from Beale and you felt unsafe. The arena was full and loud and their fans were nasty. I'm almost kind of glad the Hoyas lost since I think I would have been torn limb from limb had they won.

We won 79-70 in 2008-09 in OT at the Booth. What scoresheet are you referring to?
