You can't say you hate Cuse as much as anyone and then root for them.
If you can root for them, you don't hate them as much as anyone.

Meh. Boeheim has actually grown on me over the years. People who think he's truly destestable now clearly never witnessed his antics during the '80s, when there wasn't a bigger whiner in all of sports.
But the guy has worn me down. His record at Syracuse is pretty astounding, and he comes across as (gasp!) kind of likeable in interviews now. He's also been a staunch defender of keeping the core of the Big East together, and freely acknowledges that the Syracuse/Georgetown rivalry is the backbone of the league (which displeases UConn fans in particular, but also irks Pitt, Nova, SJU fans as well). I find myself hating Calhoun, Dixon, Pitino, Wright with much more vigor - and something tells me Lavin will be near the top of the heap if his mercenary policy succeeds at St. John's.
Now having said all that, there is NO TEAM I enjoy beating more than Syracuse. That Big East Tourney win last year pretty much made the entire season a success from my standpoint. It's just that I've shifted in my stance toward Jimmy B. away from hated rival to respected rival. (And let me be clear I'm talking about Boeheim here; the Syracuse fanbase remains the saddest and most obnoxious collection of lowlifes and dullards imaginable).
I expect to be dodging rotten tomatoes in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Some of you need to go to confession this week.
I shudder to think what your penance will be.
(You're just lucky I'm not in charge of handing those out.)

I expect to be dodging rotten tomatoes in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... At the risk of condemning my soul to damnation for eternity, I will give you this - I do not hate Boeheim quite as much as I used to. I agree that he is a constant advocate of the Big East and opposes any discussions of realigning or splitting the conference, even though as a football school SU could benefit. He also has been pretty darned successful with a variety of teams. So I will begrudgingly acknowledge his competence. At the same time he has given blind support to his players (as long as they are among the favored few) who have committed misdeeds, to the extent that he has railed publicly against discipline whenever it has resulted in suspensions of any length(e.g. Devenpunk, Billy Edelin, just to name the most recent). So I still dislike him - and I absolutely abhor his program, his players, and especially the mutant, brainless mob that are proud to call themselves Syracuse fans. I wish them all the emotional and psychological harm that could possibly befall their ilk.

Mr. Magoo may seem "likeable" when he's interviewed by ESPN, but trust me, when he does his postgame interviews and different members of the media pose questions, he's an a$$ to many. Also never seen a guy call out his team as much as he does in interviews. I'm very pleased JT3 does the exact opposite.

I don't root for him/them either. Ever. EDIT: I will happily root OOC for the Johnnies, Marquette, Louisville, more often than not Pitt (mainly because I like their coach), reluctantly, but under the right circumstances Villanova or WVU (but it makes me feel awful inside and I don't think I ever should), Providence, Cincinnati and, as long as their football team sucks, Notre Dame. And all the lower echelon teams pretty much in every case. I know Elvado and many others will want to shoot me for saying there are acceptable circumstances to root for Villanova. I apologize. I know it's wrong. But I have some friends who went to school there & they're pretty good guys, not at all obnoxious, so that mollifies my hatred toward them a tiny bit. Jay Wright's still a weasel though.

People who think he's truly detestable now clearly never witnessed his antics during the '80s, when there wasn't a bigger whiner in all of sports. If you don't think he's still the biggest whiner in sports, I don't think you actually watch Syracuse play. As soon as any opposing player so much as breathes on one of the Orange, both hands are in the air, looking at Jim Burr or John Cahill like one of his players was just decapitated.

I don't seek out Syracuse games to watch, I admit. All I know is against us he whines far less than he did back then - of course, he's also had better success against us lately. Big John's teams absolutely owned Syracuse.

For several reasons (and despite never having set foot in the state of Michigan), I dislike MSU intensely and generally wish the worst for their athletics. Nevertheless, I was completely on their side last night. I cannot imagine circumstances under which I would root for SU. I prohibit my children wearing orange. If the Hoyas win their games, they won't be looking for help from SU.

I know you think you are making some kind of point, but really, you're only harming yourself.
On the other hand, I feel perfectly comfortable tonight saying, "Go Pirates."
Especially since their coach is no longer a crazy person.

No harm for me. The only point is that you guys take yourselves too seriously. Hilarious to me to see the reaction. All in good fun and sarcasm.
