Once again, the Big East is having it's way with the clowns of the big ten.

first i hate cuse as much as ANYONE ON HERE as i do..and especially hate uconn BUT go big east teams one and all ok?!!! THEN hoyas beat em ok that makes us look better and do better in the rpi thingy etc so i do believe this is aok to do but thats just my opinion just like i wish memphis won tonite which they didnt cause then when we beat them we do better got it.?? cabish???. also the more in the ncaas and the more that win in the ncaas the more it helps us with standings and money to help out all athletic programs thats just my opinioin .... but you know go all big east vs others THEN .... go hoyas over ALL OF THEM.. we can save the angst and putridit and anger and revenge stuff for the big east teams when WE play em.... just a thought... and the only poll or game that counts is the last one of the season!!!!1 just a thought.. gohoyas

Lic, you're right. Suddenly Vitale loves the BE and he's surprised the ACC has only one team ranked and the others have disappointed.

People have really taken rooting for their conference too far if they're willing to cheer for their team's biggest rival. I tend to root for Big East teams out of conference, but I can't fathom how anyone could even be remotely satisfied when cuse wins a game. Ultimately we just need to worry about Georgetown, and if the Hoyas keep winning it really doesn't matter what these other schools do. However, there is simply no way that it can ever be acceptable to root for syracuse. This is like Michigan and Ohio State, Yankees and Red Sox, Duke and UNC, and the list goes on, rooting for each other. You just can't root for your arch-rival. Anyone who finds this remotely acceptable probably hasn't been to a cuse game, or in the presence of any cuse fans for quite some time.

I've always wanted to see a win at the Carrier Dome but after the behavior of Cuse fans in Verizon last year, I now need it more than ever.
I think this is the year. I'm going back after 2 losses.
I hate Cuse and I saw a team tonight that can be had. At least 2 times by the good guys.

Great win for Cuse and the conference last night. Will make beating them all the more sweeter.
I was very impressed with Cuse and I don't think it's a great matchup for us. Sims/Nate/Julian will have their hands full down low. Fab Melo okay at this point but not dominant. Jackson is beasting.

Our guards will eat it up with a combination of outside shooting, drives, and short corner drops to the big men. Also, after seeing MSU against UConn, Duke, and Cuse does anyone think they are that good? I know that is tough competition but jeez, are we sure that team is actually coached by Izzo?

Cuse looked superior last night - their bigs are very good defensively - though i was not that impressed with them offensively. I worry a lot about our matchups with them.
What Editeded me off though was hearing / confirming - how much jimmy b sucks. they do not leave NY / NJ for a true road game until January. Is he serious? Something needs to be done about this. I get scheduling 'mostly' cupcakes - but not once or twice going on the road before conference play? I really hope this comes back and bites them in the arse.

Do not write MSU off yet, they do this every season. I think Izzo truly uses this time of year to figure out how to maximize his team, it must drive the fanbase crazy, but when you keep going to Final Fours I guess you accept the losses in Nov/Dec. I would be shocked if MSU is not a Top 4 seed in the NCAA this season, they will dominate the Big 10 as always with Ohio State being the main competition.

Yes elephant, and you will find discussion of it in the pre-game thread. Since we are not players we are allowed to digress a little and watch other games even:)
MSU was clearly "working" on their zone attack but the fact that they never got anything together against 'scuse's lengthy zone should worry them. At times it looked like Izzo had put a "lay in" only rule and no matter how open the 8 footer was, they were forced to force that last inside pass that got disrupted. They virtually never got the ball to the corner or the short corner, though the few alley-oops are something to consider - Henry would look great throwing a few of those down on RJ and company. They didn't space well to free up the outside shot, they didn't control the ball to the foul line and as much as I hate to acknowledge anything Dookie V said, they were doing a lot too much "east west" and not enough "north south", basically passing around the zone and not into/through it.
The 'scuse D is in mid-season form, but their O is stunningly inept and will not stand a chance against our D. Our guys have much greater familiarity with the spacing and methods required to beat that nasty zone and I fully expect them to be able to do that twice, maybe three times this year. Our outside shot will make a huge difference, but not as much as our ability to hit the 15 footer, which Jason and Austin are really good at.

Michigan state had a million and one chances to win this game and blew every single one. It would've been less frusterating if thye had jsut gotten blown out. Instead they kept of keeping it close, but they killed themselves with turnovers. They're a 100X worse than us when it comes to turnovers. And 95% of their turnovers were completely unforced. When they worked it into the middle of the zone they had good results and scored and when they took it to the hoop they had good results, instead they just forced passes chucked early 3's and in general had no clue what the hell they were doing. Cuse didn't win this game Michigan State just kicked the crap out of michigan state with their stupid decision making and terrible passing.

It's the most frustrating time to live in this d@mn city after they win a big game. People think I really care to hear about it. They all know I would rather jump out of a burning building than to see SU win yet they still talk to me about the games. I know all I want for Xmas is earplugs.

Syracuse fans made the MSG feel like the Carrier Dome. It was more of a home game for them. The place needs a good cleaning...

I must say—and I only do so from the safety and security of my own office, where no projectiles from any of you can reach me in any form other than verbal—that I root for any BE team over any non-BE team. And I do so for three reasons: (1) It increses the stature of the BE. (2) It makes our numbers better when we beat them. And (3) It makes it more soul-crushing for them when we beat them. Think about it. If Syracuse were a middling team ranked 24th last year when we mercilessly beat them, would it have stung so bad? I don't think so. I think it hurts them the most when their expectations are the highest. So let them win and win and win. And then let us destroy them, leaving nothing but fiery wreckage in our wake. THIS...times 100. ALWAYS root for Big East teams when they play opponents outside the Big East. ALWAYS.

You NEVER, EVER root for your hated, detested, abhorred rival, with the sole exception of an end-of-season game where a Suckacuse win would give us the conference title - and even in that instance, you do so only in the solitude of your own residence, with the lights out and the sound muted, after which you take a long, hot cleansing shower. I would gladly, happily, ecstatically sacrifice a few RPI points for an Orangeboy loss on any day of the year, any year and every year. Those who could possibly think otherwise simply do not get the depth and the intensity of this rivalry, and would obviously sell their very souls to Satan for a few shiny baubles and some pieces of gold. Please let me hear no more of this vile heresy.

There is a Boheim exception clearly established for this. Root for your conference except for a hated rival.
Sure it is good for the BE that cuse won last night. I know that. but I still wanted them to lose last night.

We have been talking about bench minutes and/or rotations in several threads. IMO, a player is part of the rotation if he plays 5+ minutes. Last night, the four Jimmy V teams went like this: Memphis used a 10-man rotation, while Kansas used a 9-man rotation. Michigan State used a 10-man rotation, while Syracuse had an 8-man rotation.
We know Shelby will be part of the KU rotation once he serves his lame suspension. Is Syracuse deeper than that? D. Riley? We'll see, but they're missing an outside shooter/scorer, not another big man.
More interesting, Coach K is playing November games like they were in March. He's using an 8-man rotation against the more difficult foes (Marquette, KSU, Butler and MSU). Former Top 30 h.s. seniors T. Thornton and P. Hairston are not part of it and are getting garbage minutes. With the class coming in, I wouldn't be surprised if one or both transfer.
Duke's 8-game schedule so far includes 4 games at Cameron (incl. MSU) and four neutral site games. Their only true road game will be in January vs. SJU at MSG, a second home for Duke full of alumni. The only tough game remaining in their OOC is vs. Temple, but it's at home.
Coaches who want to play it safe, while looking good for RPI, media and SOS purposes should learn from the master himself. Coach K., come visit, if you like. We'll have POTUS front-row.
