Who leaves college early to play ball in Italy? Hollis needs to wake up and work on his handle. He ain't no NBA player. I understand that people on this board are trying to avoid drinking the kool-aid, but damn there's a fine line between being realistic and being a straight up hater. Most of our players' detractors come from this board and its sad cause they have to read this dumb sh.t everyday.

Not a hater. I'm a realist.

tgod... it's always the same people hating. Hopefully everyone recognizes that.
I don't know how this thread turned into a Hollis thread but Hollis seems like a smart guy. Whatever decisions he makes I'm sure will be the best ones for him. As a fellow Hoya, I wish him nothing but success on and off of the floor. I'm hoping he has a huge year that I can cheer for like a crazy person like I do every year. Either way, I'll cheer for him wherever he is next year too.

I think the kid should stay in school. How the hell is that hating. I hope Hollis has a Reggie Williams type year and leads us to NCAA tournament.

To say that he isn't NBA quality is hating, because he is. Many guys have deficiencies in their games but still get drafted anyway. I don't see your point. If NBA personnel see Hollis as legitimate SF prospect then so do I.

They don't see him as a legitimate prospect. Tgod, I produce NJ Nets basketball games and have a pretty good relationship with Billy King and the Nets scouting department. They do not think he is NBA ready.

Ready now? Maybe not. But who's to say that he can't be NBA ready by the end of the season? Its entirely possible. Certainly can't disagree with Hollis leaving Georgetown if he has his degree. Gotta respect that.

1) Guys are drafted who aren't NBA ready ALL. THE. TIME. 2) They think that now, before his Junior year and the first time he ever has been asked to be more than a complementary player. 3) That's one team. Plenty of scouts are watching Hollis. Some will like him more than others. Billy King ain't the be all end all of who is an NBA draft pick.
You're telling me Hollis can't average 15 points a game this year with a solid shooting percentage and get drafted? As a 6'7''+ guy with a great stroke who plays hard on both ends? Nothing about this is a stretch. He could also average 12, shoot a poor percentage, and show he can't score except as a spot up shooter. We'll see, but he's getting every chance this year.
Moreover, he's going to graduate this year! You can't begrudge the kid wanting to make a living once he has his degree.

Okay guys, let's get back to talking about Andrew White... can anybody who has seen him play make any comparisons?

They do not think he is NBA ready. Being an NBA PROSPECT doesn't necessarily mean NBA Ready.... Clearly he's not yet shown anything concrete.

"He ain't no NBA player" doesn't really sound like well thought out criticism though, just hate. And clearly i didnt mean "have" literally. But these kids are people, and we tend to forget that. But of course you think its okay to contribute to a player's dislike of his/her own fanbase.

So is White a legit 6'5? Long arms? Or would playing him at the 3 look similar to playing Austin at the 3?

More athletic than Austin. ESPN has White listed at 6'6. Fwiw, Austin was 6'3.

A top 50 prospect that wants to stay close to home is definitely nothing to sneeze at. I know people are disappointed that we lost TJ, but Andrew White would be a really great pickup. We're not talking about some undiscovered kid or project player here. He's a real-deal top recruit.

Kid definitely looks like he has some game, but one thing that stands out with our recruiting is we are getting some good looks from solid prospects, but we are going after guys who are very similar to guys we have.
If we add this guy, next year we will have Him, Aaron, DSR, Jabril (presumably at the 2 although i know our offense doesnt technically make this distinction.).
If Hollis stays around we will have Hollis, Otto, Greg (presumably at the 3 although i know our offense doesnt technically make this distinction.)
And we will have a ton of PFs in Nate/Moses/Bolden/Adams/Mikael
Point is, to me it seems our biggest needs are at the 5 and 1. Listen, I know some of those guys can slide to pg in a pinch but none of them are pure/natural pgs. Im not sure Markel is either, but he is the closest we have. And I know a couple of the 4s will have to play the 5, but they are all better suited at the 4.
Dont get me wrong, I am glad we are still competing hard on the trail for good talent, but it seems like we lack balance in positions and years. Thus, this will lead to the inevitable situation where someone leaves. But this guy White, although he looks good, he seems like a guy with a skill-set and a size that we are already have plenty of.

I agree dynasty, but I think the problem is the lack of depth at pg and c in this year's class. We missed on our top point guard prospect (Kyle), and after that, there was a pretty big drop off. At center, we missed on the elite guys like Drummond, but we're still in on Upshaw so I think that could end up okay. Your point is definitely valid, but I also think there's certainly something to be said for stockpiling good talent.

Also remember no guarantee all these guys work out. Can't set lineups on paper. More kids equals more competition for spots which pushes everyone. In the past guys could coast knowing they were locks for spots. I love the direction that our recruiting philosophy is going. We've clearly got a plan and trying to overanalyze it from our armchairs isnt going to change it. Agree that we need a center. They're addressing that with hopefully upshaw and if not him Meeks etc in 13. Our plan was clearly to get a pg in this class or 13. Once we missed on our top guys this class, were on to 13 or pg (Jordan, ennis, etc). We need to win some battles with a few of the top guys to put us over the top but weve got a really solid base so far. Keep pushing to bring in the best talent possible. If we somehow get upshaw or Meeks, Jordan or ennis, along with pushing for troy. Whew. That's a crazy talented roster!
