I don't know who our next recruit(s) will be, but you know he (they) were watching our games in SC... especially that demolition of NC State tonight. A complete game. Front court, back court, fast breaks, very aggressive on O and D, and another 82 pt. game vs a major ACC school.
Our next recruits HAVE to be digging what they are seeing. Daniel Ochefu. would you like to be a part of this? Hey Anderson, what about you? Better say yes soon before all the spots are taken!

Another BIG win for GU ... and over a TOP 10 team! Playing VERY exciting, fast-paced ball too.
Any recruit who is remotely thinking about GU saw this game tonight.... Can't think of a better sales presentation than just watching this team play!

next year, yes. But it would seem we'll save that and have 2 open for 2012.

Here's a question--after seeing the type of team we've seen this year--and how valuable it is to have a ton of shooting on the court--do you think Hoyas should pursue a kid like Myles Davis to replace Austin this Spring? Davis is a kid who is known to be a top shooter in class of '11 or '12 depending on what happens--he's at Notre Dame Prep to improve his game--not grades--so he could re-classify to '12--or he still could be swayed to sign in Spring.
I think Hoyas have replacement for Chris inhouse with Markel--they've replaced Julian with several big/talented kids, but Austin is the guy that you can't replace-he's an offensive machine and best shooter I've ever seen wear a Hoya uniform. Now I'm not saying take a shooter for sake of a shooter--but a great shooter--that is such a weapon and creates space for the offense to operate and punishes defenses. Davis has grown to 6'3 too-but he's not as offensively gifted as Austin--but he can shoot the ball--and did drop 40+ on Oak Hill when he was at St. Peter's Prep last year-leading them to an upset. We've had a Hoya fan who lives in NY/NJ who has been lauding this kid's ability from get go--even saying he liked him more then Tyrone Johnson--so I'd love to hear more about this kid--because that shooting ability intrigues me with type of roster the Hoyas have/are putting together which is much taller/more versatile---and you can never have enough offensive firepower--which is what makes this team dangerous imo---and fun to watch too.
Just throwing it out there--and seeing what people think.

I absolutely want someone who is a shooter whether it is a guard or a wing. RDF, how well does James Robinson shoot the ball?

Trying to replace Austin with another shooter of his all around abilities is like finding the white rhino is Nepal. Not going to happen.

Thats a good question RDF, but to be honest, I don't know that you can classify Austin as a shooter. In my opinion, Jason is a shooter. Austin is a scorer. Now don't get me wrong, I agree with you that Austin is the best shooter in my time as a Hoya fan. But what makes him so impossible to cover is that he's lethal the outside, he can get to the rim, he finishes extremely well because of his great body control and strength, he's got a very good midrange game, and he doesn't turn the ball over. I'm not sure those can be replicated, and to be honest, if there's a guy on the roster that can do that, to me it's Hollis. We're great this year because our guards can shoot, but (and granted know nothing about him) would Davis be more of a shooter of the JWall mold, or an all around scorer of the Austin mold? If the former, then I'm not sure it's needed given that Hollis and Jason are both great shooters, and Vee and Markel should be above average shooters as well. And all those two guys have to do is learn from Chris's example, who went from being a solid 3pt threat to being a 40+% shooter.

and is there a taller shooter already on the bench, who just needs to learn the system so he can get more burn, in Aaron Bowen?

We should try to get a shooter every year. Vee, Hollis and Jason (and Markel can equal Chris in that) are nice shooters for next year, but once Jason is gone, we need to start replenishing, because Vee and Jason will be seniors.

RDF, in theory I agree completely with bringing in a GREAT shooter to "replace" Awesome Freeman. Whether Myles Davis is that guy... I just don't know as I've never seen the kid play. However, given our current roster and incoming recruits over the next couple years... I don't see the space being available. Presently, we have one schollie available for the current season. It will still be available next year -- unless we get someone else e.g. Porter. Freeman, Wright and Vaughan graduate, while Adams, Trawick and Hopkins arrive to take their places. If no one else signs on, we will have one additional opening in 2012 as Clark and Sims will graduate, while Bolden will fill one slot. Ochefu seems to be the top target for 2012. Unless someone leaves, there is only one other spot for 2011 or 2012. As for guards, we have Markel, Vee (excellent shooter), Trawick, and Bowen (after Clark graduates). We need another guard. Preferably, a point guard. Of course, we all know given historical trends we are likely to have one or more additional schollies available as someone will leave. At the moment, our incoming recruits indicate a return to the days of Big Man U, at the expense of our awesome guard play of late. Finally, I'd list Freeman as the closest to Sleepy Floyd in terms of shooting ability. Tough to do a direct comparison as there was no 3 Pt. shot when Sleepy played. But being mentioned together is truly remarkable. And my understanding of the term "scorer" was to describe someone who really wasn't a great shooter, but nonetheless figured out ways to score... put backs, layups, FTs, bank shots, whatever it takes to put the ball in the hoop. I guess we don't all think of some of these terms in a uniform way. Dan's Table of Recruits (Scroll halfway down page to find it)

I know there's a tendency to underrate what we have already, but I think we can still have a good guard group next year and in subsequent years given Markel, Sanford (very efficient/underappreciated and he will only grow/improve), Clark (next year only). The added size gives you the chance to move Hollis where he belongs - and he is one of our better shooters from a pure numbers game.
While I think we can protect ourselves by finding another shooter, I don't think it is an emergency.

It will be interesting to see what we do next year at the point. I don't think we are going to bring in another PG for next year so that leaves Markel in control (with Vee and Jason also having to play the point). We actually will be pretty thin at the 3 next year (with Hollis starting at the 3 and I'm assuming III will play a 3 guard line up at times next year, unless Jerrelle develops his shot and can play the 3), so if Otto can play the 3 and shoot like advertised, you take him (although I think most schools would play him at the 4).
Assuming we don't add anyone else in 2011, I think Kyle and Daniel are perfect gets for the program but we could be very thin at PG with the departure of Jason (all we would have remaining on the roster are Vee and Trawick). I know Kyle can handle the ball but it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

I think Vee, as a senior, will probably start at the 2 in 2012, and will be a fine back up point/second ball handler. I also think we will take James Robinson, who is another point guard and would probably play the role Markel is playing this year as a freshman. Add in Thompson, Bowen, and Trawick to play the 2 and 3 spots, and I think we're looking pretty good.

The one thing that has been proven - if you can get the DC Metro player of the year, you try and get him whoever he is! Sign me up for another Freeman, Wright, Clark, Page, Durant ... this should be our priority each and every year. I hope we don't end up looking at Quinn Cook with regret.

But he can't play the entire game so who is going to back him up at PG? At least next year Jason can handle the ball a bit as well as Vee. But I don't see Vee as a PG unless his handle improves quite a bit. Robinson is a possibility but he has a long way to go to contribute as a solid PG for Gtown.
