Stop it. You're messing with his narrative.

That's a sign that should have never been made. I agree with that wholeheartedly. I am glad that it was not pre-printed and distributed. We're not talking about a sign in that case but several signs, billboards, etc. I think the medialite misses the point slightly. It is wrong to put a Hitler mustache on anyone, including Barack Obama since he too would have been persecuted in Hitler's Germany although not on the same scale. That there is not similar outrage in some circles remains troubling. Perhaps this Tea Party billboard is ok because one Hitler sign was spotted on the Mall this weekend: www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/07/14/2010-07-14_tea_party_billboard_comparing_barack_obama_to_hitler_lenin_covered_up_group_call.htmlThese signs advance a narrative that certain people in America are oppressed right now. Not only do they misidentify who is oppressed in America, but there is an utter lack of understanding of just how bad the Holocaust or Stalin's Russia was.

I think the medialite misses the point slightly. I'm pretty sure the point of that slideshow was to show that the mediaite correspondents tried really really extra super hard to find offensive signs at the rally and there were absolutely none to find except some that only a religious nutjob could find offensive. As the editor(s) note, the real offense of most of the ones they featured was that they were boring, tired, or unimaginative. I have to admit though that I loved the "My wife is a Muslim and not a Terrorist but I'm afraid of her anyway" one.

According to the very left-wing NBC news, Glenn Beck's rally yesterday at the Lincoln Memorial drew about 300,000 people. Other estimates were higher. That's a lot of right-wing kooks. Metro ridership the day of the Beck rally: 510,000 Metro ridership Saturday for the Stewart/Colbert rally: 825,000 Yeah, but there were two rallies this past weekend. So on a per rally basis, Beck still wins. ;D
