In a world where perception becomes reality, it is way too easy to negative recruit our program. Exactly. And a time where info is readily available at the drop of a hat makes it more disconcerting. That perception can become reality to the masses VERY fast. From what is being discussed on the circuit though, our system doesnt do a disservice to bigs, just guards. I think the fact that Chris/Austin BOTH are still here hurts us because just about every other burger boy from their class is league- flynn mayo j.anderson bayless harden rose Except Nolan Smith (Duke) and Kyle Singler (Duke), Corey Stokes (Nova), Nick Calathes (Florida), Taylor King (Duke AND Nova), Gani Lawal (Tech), Jai Lucas (Texas AND Florida). Don't go to those schools!

Amile, Ochefu, Slo Mo, B. Ashley, Jerami Grant, Austin and the Boo Wms guard from Va (who's name escapes me) have all been offered for 2012. There may be more, but those are off the top of the dome.
Definitely have not slow played kids for 2012.

All those squads have put HELLA guards in the L since 1996, check the numbers bro.. Again I have an issue with people who refuse to acknowledge facts.

Yes, the last NBA-caliber guard is Iverson. Of course, he's also the last McD AA at G until, well, Chris and Austin. There's a correlation there.
My problem is that fans here just feed the perception. Most fanbases would be bragging about four NBA players in the past four years -- two of them lottery! Plus a decent shot for Ewing, Jr.
And two of those four weren't ranked anywhere where'd you'd expect an NBA career, where most programs that feed the NBA are taking the best players and just caretaking for a year or two.
There's way too much focus put on recruiting rankings to begin with. I'm not going to worry about the class until I see who we get. We missed on our #1s last year and I really like our class. I like Lubick and Starks over the players who were apparently ahead in line, for example.
And for someone who has an issue with people who refuse to acknowledge facts, you ignored some big ones right in the post: "I think the fact that Chris/Austin BOTH are still here hurts us because just about every other burger boy from their class is league."
They aren't.

Totally agree, SF, having Chris and Austin here does not hurt us in the slightest.
To the original intent of this thread, I am quite nervous about the 2011 class. I think the impact of Cox's departure was underestimated by some on this board. I see us now with a class consisting of Katenda, TJO, maybe a Hopkins caliber PF, and then a complete rahndim (btw, some of our rahndim's have turned out great, e.g., Wallace, so not a knock necessarily).

Two projects, a random guy, and a guy with no motor-type? That class would be worse than disappointing. I understand the concern, but I refuse to believe we'll end up doing that poorly.

I think at a bare minimum we need 1 immediate impact frontcourt guy, whether that's Christmas, Chol, O'Bryant or somebody else. I think if we can keep everybody happy this year and bring everybody back next year, we'll have a nice rotation from 1-3, even if we don't bring in any instant impact guys. But up front, we'll need some help. I think our frontcourt next year looks passable at best. Getting somebody who may help up front in 2 or 3 years (ie Omogbehim) is not really what I'd like to see.... Or actually, I don't mind if we get 1 project-type, but if we don't get somebody who can help immediately, it's a disappointment.

From reading this thread, you would think that our backcourt going into this season is god-awful because it's obvious we haven't been able to recruit decent talent there when that's the farthest from the truth.
Someone said we're starting to recruit like Maryland, when in reality, Gary Williams would have killed to have the recruiting classes the Hoyas have assembled over the years.
In just the last few years, Georgetown has recruited two McDonald's AA's in the backcourt (Chris and Austin), a four-star in Sapp, a four-star in Jason (who was also the All-Met POY), a four-star in Markel (who was IMHO, the best senior guard in the area last season), a five-star wing in DaJuan, a four-star wing in Hollis and solid pickups like Bowen and Vee late in the recruiting process.
If anything, aside from Greg, it's been the bigs that have disappointed either through lack of development (Sims), they left (Spann, Macklin, Nikita), or they're just limited (Jerrelle).
I understand perception versus reality. However, this Georgetown team is the deepest and most talented it's been in the backcourt in a long time.
That's reality.

In the present, like I said, we have the deepest and most talented backcourt in recent memory.
Our two freshman guards were both Top 150 players, one of whom was a four-star player and the best senior guard in the D.C. area last season, the other looks like a relative steal who is athletic and a good shooter.
In fact, we have so much depth in the backcourt, that many on this board weren't really tripping in the least bit about Ty Johnson committing to 'Nova, because according to them, we don't need a point in this class.
So if we don't need another point in this class, then what do we need? And among that group of potential recruits, who have we missed out on?
Have Hood, Christmas, JOB, Hopkins and Chol committed elsewhere?

It's either Anthony Davis officially announcing for Kentucky, Austin Rivers announcing for Duke, LeBryan Nash announcing for Baylor, Adonis Thomas announcing for Memphis, Quinn Cook announcing for Duke or Quincy Miller announcing for Louisville.
If it's Christmas announcing for anyone except Georgetown, I'm gonna punch a small child.

Although I think it likely has more to do with our assistant coaching turnover and negative recruiting by other coaches, does anyone think the recent track record of transfers and poor APR scores are playing a role in how JTIII is approaching recruiting? What are the chances he received some pressure from the GU administration to make sure he is running a stable and sustainable program?
