Also had a visit to Wake - like the size for a PG. We need to get bigger.

Well, for once we can assume that a recruit hasn't been reading the forums because if D'Vauntes had come to read this thread on him...he would notice he isn't being heavily doubted...or even doubted at all!
He would learn from some great Coaches and be part of a great team! You know that Chris and Austin will be back in the summers helping and by the time D'V gets to campus, JWall may be back as an assistant ;-).
Sign with G-town early and you will feel the love!!!

If he came to this board, he would also know that we don't know how to spell his name correctly. Someone should change the recruiting thread name - it's Smith-Rivera. Great to hear that he had a great weekend on the hilltop.

Has a final six of Xavier, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Miami, Ohio State and Indiana. Georgetown is the only school that hasn't offered.
Seems like he REALLY enjoyed his visit, liked the campus, the surrounding area and said, "it was pretty awesome."

Haven't seen him play but he's ranked top 30 by nearly all the services for 2012. Here's a fairly lengthy espn scouting report: Strengths: D'Vauntes is an old school guard. He is versatile and can play any perimeter position. He has a strong body and can pretty much get any where he wants on the court versus anyone in his age group. He "big bodies" his opponent to get them in the paint and score. Smith-Rivera is a good rebounder and passer. He has an excellent basketball IQ (he knows how to play). He is a solid shooter with range to 20 feet.
Weaknesses: D'Vauntes does not have the prototypical thin, long limbed basketball body that most scouts love to see. He is bigger and stronger, almost like a fullback or linebacker. This is an advantage for him as a younger player but as the other kids in his class get bigger and stronger the advantage will decrease. He is also not a top end athlete. He is a good basketball athlete but not a high flyer or someone with exceptional quickness.
Bottom Line: Despite his "physical limitations" Smith-Rivera is an excellent basketball player that has a full offensive package. He will definitely be an elite level recruit and college basketball player. The questions are more about his ability at the pro level. That is a few years down the road. He is skilled and talent enough to be a great college player and a possible pro...time will tell. Notes
Travel Team: Indiana Elite/Team Indiana...insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player?id=77077&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmens-college-basketball%2frecruiting%2fplayer%3fid%3d77077

Agreed HSB,
Also sounds like a he is a College player...someone who will make an impact for us but not leave early.
I know JTIII prefers players that can shoot the 3 but if he is as good as advertised from 20 ft and in, the 3pt shot may be worth developing.
