Incredible post, RB. That pretty much sums up my feelings.
Despite the disappointments of the last two or three years, I have full confidence that JT3 is hands down still the best man for the job. The fact that we are still, two weeks later, so upset about being painfully upset in the first round is a testament to how far this program has come. III has raised the program to expectations not seen since the early to mid 90's. After three years of surpassing modest expectations, he has had three years of falling short of highly elevated expectations.
I would say that he definitely has more talent and athleticism on the squad now than he did his first three years. But sometimes it's hard to make that all come together at the same time. Some of UConn's recent teams are good examples. And JT3 still has a great opportunity to do so next year with this group.
It's hard to rank JT3 against other coaches at this point because he's still so early in his coaching career. I do think he measures up nicely against other young Big East coaches such as Wright and Dixon.
JT3 is still the man. He is a very good coach, and he has the potential to be a great coach. He is definitely not without criticism (the transfers, sometimes his in-game and end of game strategy), but he has elevated the program to this point, and I am extremely confident with the program in his hands.
I am incredibly excited for next year, and I do not think it will end in a "train wreck" at the end of the season.
