If anyone was watching the New Mexico St game tonight Coach can learn a very important lession. New Mexico St was playing listless and with little passion. There coach blew up and got a T. The players really responded and from down 15 at the time, they came all the way back to tie it. Its 61 -61 as I post now.
Maybe Coach T can learn to fire up the team in game, we coul dhave used that last night!!

I heard one person suggest earlier that Thompson should have gotten in the players' faces or the refs' faces. Maybe he should have lit a fire with the players, but I believe that getting in the refs' faces was the last thing GU needed yesterday. Yes, it's a well-documented technique to fire up a team, but for the first 28 minutes our players were getting a ton of mileage out of the pleading, "do you know who I am?! I'm Tim Duncan!" face after every unfavorable call. For coach to follow that up would have set a horrendous precedent. As a fan of the 2006 Dallas Mavericks, trust me: it's no fun to root for a team that is perpetually on the refs. It's only when they forgot about bitching at the refs that the Hoyas began to get back into the game.

It might have fired up his team, and it might have given the refs some reason to call the worst lane violation I've ever seen. That or the ref had money on the game because that was just absurd.

NMS was the aggressive team all half, no way you call that. The coach was livid

sorry rich,
I'm at that game. New Mexico State's comeback had zero to do with the tech, as it came in the first half and the comeback happened in the second half.
It had everything to do with buckling down, playing defense, and realizing that they had a seven footer in the middle who could score any time they gave him the ball.
And then they stopped giving him the ball and lost the game

If Chris hits that 3 pointer the Hoyas are down 4 with over 3 minutes left. Now a box and 1 on Tiny Archibald...I mean Armond Bassett would have been nice. One of the guys needed to get in the face of the guy who kept slamming into Wright on his free throws. Or knock the guy into the 3rd row on the next play. Force must be met with force.

easy to second guess JTIII's "persona" - when we were in the final four all we (and the national media) could do was fawn over his cool, calculating demeanor - bottom line is that any coach's approach is going to be exalted in good years and crucified in bad ones. i just want to see our guy improve as a coach - which to me means making us a better rebounding team with more intensity on defense - the offense will take care of itself.

To follow up on SIXER, Its wonderful when you have emotional leaders on the court like Ewing or Green and you canlay back more and let them take charge. This year we dont have that luxury. I think coach had to try something.
How about a press, a half court trap? Something to stir it up, those are coaching decisions. Sometimes you have to get creative, or mean or do something out of character.

Rich.....that is a problem....he does not know how to trap and press. I have been saying that since 2006. He is stubborn.

Yeah, they really don't have what it takes to win when it counts.

In the grand scheme of things,Who gives a deleted if we get to a conference final and then get deleted by a mid major THAT DIDNT EVEN FINISH .500 IN THEIR CONFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of you people act like you lost your house betting on this team. Seriously - get some perspective.
Yes, we're all disappointed that they lost. Yes, they never should have lost to Ohio. But sometimes it happens in the NCAA tournament. There is no fundamental flaw in the program, just like there was no fundamental flaw in the program in 1985 when Villanova, who had no business being anywhere near the Hoyas, upset JTJr's squad by shooting out of their minds.
Are there things to fix and improve? Certainly. Could the team use a renewed commitment to aggressive defense and rebounding? Yes. Would a couple more solid bench players help? Of course. I've got news: those guys will enroll in the fall. This nonsense that the coaching staff has to suddenly scrap everything they've done so far is just that: nonsense. It's hilarious how all these armchair coaches come out of the woodwork after a loss. If you can't see that this program has one of the top 5 coaches in America running it, then to quote several of those armchair know-it-alls, "you don't know basketball."
