There is no silver lining, this was an unmitigated disaster.
Yes this team has been inconsistent this year, but inconsistent means losing to Tennessee or SDSU, not Ohio.
Oh my god I don't even know what to say.

again Ohio would've beaten everyone except maybe missouri, kansas or a Baylor today.

This summer, we need to bring back Alonzo, Perry McDonald, Ronnie Highsmith, Gene Smith....hell even Allen Iverson and teach some toughness on defense.

Tough to evaluate this, because I like coach Thompson. But at almost any other program in America, the coach is under serious, serious consideration of getting fired at this point. Last year's meltdown... and then the most embarrassing tournament loss imaginable (highlighted by a stubborn unwillingness to change anything until about 5 minutes remaining). Of course here, Thompson's dad is a legend and the students wear "III" on the freakin fan shirts... Again, I'm a big fan of Thompson III. I think he's a great coach for a transition/ building program. But I really wonder if we want this as the mentality that's leading a team that strives to be elite. He needs to go. Do you really think anyone is buying your dishonesty? "I really like JTIII . . . He needs to go." DELETED. 4 NCAA's in 5 years, a Final Four - better that you go.

It's pretty sad that once again we're going to be the talking point for every coach with a highly ranked team from here on out: "You saw what happened to Georgetown, don't let that happen to you! Go out there and compete like hell!"

Chris and Hollis--they brought it tonight. They are going to be great next year.
Greg--If you are going to be anyone in the NBA, you definitely should have had much more of an impact on this game. I hope you come back. You have shown flashes, but the last two games demonstrate you just aren't ready.
Free--you're the man. Feel better, figure it out this summer and come back and be BE POY.
Julian- not good tonight. But you knew that.
Benimon- I do not and will never understand why you play. and why the hell do you always fall?
Jason- You are the poster boy for this team---sometimes you are awesome and sometimes you suck
Vee- excited about you man. You give people hell.
This hurts guys, what can we do? Ohio hit everything and we didn't play D. Next year is a crucial, crucial year for this program. I think we can all agree

This team has good players. JTIII is a good coach.
For whatever reason, however, this team just didn't defend all year. They lacked that "we're-going-to-be-in-your-face-all-night-and-you're-going-to-have-to-claw-your-way-to-60-points" attitude that previous great Georgetown teams had.
As a result of this, I think the key question heading into the offseason is whether or not they can develop that attitude and then carry it through an entire season.

Don't blame III, don't call for change, GU wasn't perfect, we had our limitations - problems against quick guards and athletic 4s. But again, they hit their threes...this is a lot like the Marquette game. before I blast this post, DELETED? Seriously, don't blame the coach? Then who do you look at for answers?

III is a good coach. We need better rebounding. Also, our switching defense wasn't working. We should have switched to fighting through picks. As I've said, I like III, and I think he's really good for a program that's seeking to go from struggling/ mid tier to the upper level. But once there.... is he really worthy of a program that wants to be a top 10 team in the country? Why can't we have an elite coach? Tonight just affirms that he isn't capable of the motivation, in game adjustments, or leadership necessary for a top team. I hate to say this, but.... Boeheim, Calhoun, Coach K have never had a team play as unmotivated and underachieving as our guys tonight. It's ridiculous to give III the same immunity that those guys get. Izzo, Huggins, Calipary, Bill Self, Buzz Williams, Roy Williams, Gary Williams, Thad Matta, Frank Martin, Jay Wright, Rick Pitino... the list goes on... none of these coaches would hae lost our squad to lose a 7-9MAC team tonight.

It's a terrible loss. There's no sugarcoating it. Allowing 97 points to a team like Ohio in the NCAA Tournament is a step back for a program that only has one tourney win since the Final Four trip. All you can do is learn from it. The team needs a deeper roster. That much is certain. I think fatigue was a problem on defense in this game. Next season it should have more players who can contribute meaningful minutes.
I'd like to thank the players for a season that was mostly fun. The Duke and Nova games and the BET were a blast to watch.
And, Greg, selfishly I hope you come back. If you decide it's time for the NBA, best of luck.

Go out there and compete like hell!" Because no other coach that we are recruiting against has ever in the history of their careers been upset in the first round of the tourny, right? Oh and that will work miracles for all those teams that didn't even make the tournament.

Thanks for the personal attack. Again, the unique attachment and blind defense of our coach continues to amaze me. It's comical, and I'm sure the rest of the college basketball world would be as equally entertained by this board as I am. You don't have to believe me, I really don't care. I think Thompson is a great guy, and a solid coach. But the man has failed two seasons in a row. That's what legendary coaches get passes on, not someone who has squandered immense talent.

I had hoped that the BET marked the end of our inconsistent performances. Not so.
In my worst nightmares, I couldn't have anticipated this. I thought the Rutgers loss was bad, but this was infinitely worse. I can't understand how we could sleepwalk through an NCAA Tournament game, particularly after playing with so much intensity last week.
Ugh.

Benimon- I do not and will never understand why you play. and why the hell do you always fall? I know it wasn't meant to, but for reason I couldn't help but laugh when I read this. Here's hoping something, anything, gets into Henry this summer and he can fulfill at least some of his potential.
