For all the lurkers on the Ohio board reading this: congratulations. We were completely outplayed by you guys. Pretty much all the things you said were true: III was outcoached, their Freeman was better, and in a game of transition, we were soundly beaten. Enjoy the win, you deserved it.
As for our team: the Hoyas this year really were like watching a rebellious teenager, and we were the parents. They'd only do so much as they could to get us off their backs, and the minute we started feeling good about them again, they'd go and do something completely moronic. For all the posters screaming about the offensive scheme, our supposed inability to recruit enough athletes, etc., just save it. Today (and much of our season) was all about effort. When we expended it, we won (most of the time). When we didn't, we lost and were in many cases humbled badly by inferior competition.
Guys need to look themselves in the mirror and decide how good they want to be next year. It can either be a special year, or they can be middle of the pack in the BE again and flame out in the first weekend of the NCAAs. The choice is theirs and theirs alone.

I wonder what this performance will cost the Hoya Hoop Club in terms of donations? Glad that the folks at the $2500 level got to buy tix for this game.

Just when we thought we had put it all together. We were so good in the BE tournament. Thought we had momentum to make a run. Nope.
Monroe comes back. Just a hunch.

Our defense was a disaster and incredibly inconsistent all year. And it bit us in the ass big time tonight. End of story.

Bobcats clearly wanted it more. They played with confidence because we never took it away from them.

Wide open 3, after wide open 3, after wide open 3. ZERO passion. Hard to be a fan when I care more about the game than the guys on the floor, excluding chris. Well, they certainly care. They just didn't know how to defend the 3 or rebound. I don't know how to fix it, but its academic in any event because without Monroe next year they are a bubble team. Kudos to Chris Wright, one of the all-time warriors. Everyone else was horrible.

Yeah our defense sucked and we played with no passion (except wright) ...but Ohio was good today...couldnt miss
Greg, work your butt off in the offseason with Henry, benimon, and vaughn and come back next year to avenge this disaster. You can use another year and the draft will be weaker at the top in 2011, so you may get picked in the top half of the 2011 lottery as oppossed to the bottom if you come out 2010
Hoyas also getting a couple guys next year in lubick and starks that bring some heart with them and will give us better depth.

I feel that this is the worst loss in the history of the program.

Tough to think that in two years with Monroe, no NCAA wins. Not one. What a letdown.

All I can say is now its on to the Monroe watch, will he leave or will he go. We should of went into a 2-3 zone. Never under estimate you opponent fellas in anything.

Do we really think III forgot how to coach since last week? Defense is not coaching, that is on the players. All of those guys know how to play defense, they just chose not to tonight. Honestly, these does not seem to be much III can do when this team decides to go in its shell on D

Why would Monroe stay? He has nothing to gain and everything to lose. Thanks for the time on the hilltop Greg, sorry that we were not able to take advantage of what you brought.
The coaching and overall preparation for this game was non-existent.

Tough to evaluate this, because I like coach Thompson.
But at almost any other program in America, the coach is under serious, serious consideration of getting fired at this point. Last year's meltdown... and then the most embarrassing tournament loss imaginable (highlighted by a stubborn unwillingness to change anything until about 5 minutes remaining).
Again, I'm a big fan of Thompson III. I think he's a great coach for a transition/ building program. But I really wonder if we want this as the mentality that's leading a team that strives to be elite. He needs to go.

The worst part of it is, not only have we been upset now in our last two tourney games, but just like the Davidson loss has turned out to be, this one will be the signature upset of the tourney. Have to root for the 15 seeds tomorrow (if you can stand to watch basketball at all, that is).

This is on the players. They blew the game off-this was for lack of effort. They are immature and deserved to lose. The game wasn't as close as the final score. Bad nerves, no discipline, helter skelter inept defense. I have been attending games since the 70s-this is the most inept, embarrassing loss since I was a freshman in '64. Time to give it a rest. Picture without Monroe is bleak if he leaves.

Tough to think that in two years with Monroe, no NCAA wins. Not one. What a letdown. Number one recruit in the country, perfect fit for our offense, gets 2 years starting with 2 other McDonald's All-Americans . . . and we have squat to show for it.

An amber alert has been issued for Georgetown's defense Agreed. Somewhat reminded me of the consistent open looks WVU had against us. Benimon is virtually nonexistent on d. He constantly blows coverage. I don't understand why III gave him that much playing time. Julian should have had more of his minutes. Hats off to Christ for a spirited performance. Thought Monroe contributed adequately but overall an extremely lackluster effort. So disappointing.

JTIII's first years were marked by overachievement and a stronger than expected finish, III's last three years were marked by underachievement and a disastrous finish. Not good. That said, I LOVE the guy and I wouldn't want ANYONE else as our coach.
