The offense looks good. I wonder if hoyaheaven has been paying attention.

Just saw the replay. It seems as if the Hoyas dominated the whole game, but Marquette just keep sticking around until the 12 minute mark in the 2nd half. It was as if the Hoyas said, enough of this, let's put this game away. Greg was just outstanding. I enjoyed the volleyball spike by our front line at the 5 minute mark of the 2nd half, when I believe it was Greg and Vaughn both knew the guy was going to take the shot, and both went up and spiked the ball back. Great movement and effort.

Shower all the accolades on Monroe he deserves - he is as a unique college player as there is in all of Division 1 - BUT we are not the same team without the amazing presence and improvement of JULIAN VAUGHN. Monroe and Vaughn looked more in tune, and their physical presence and overall combined game looked better tonight then ANY game I personally watched in '90-91 with Zo and Mutumbo. I didn't think that was a remote possibility when this season started, but if Vaughn's confidence and play continues (hopefully in the next SEVEN games) like he did tonight, I'll see you all in INDY!!!

I think of Monroe more as a LeBron James than a Magic Johnson. He's more physically imposing like LeBron imo.

God that game was awesome. Defended the 3 like crap in the first half, but came out in the 2nd and made them shoot layups over our bigs, and to me that was the difference. The offense cruised throughout all 40 minutes. Had we shot better from 3, we would have blown the doors off them even more than we did. Don't forget, that was a very good team we just shellacked. I just hope we're not blowing our load too early, because the way we're playing, we can be scary good in the tourney. Greg was great and there's not much more to say about that. It seemed like everyone chipped in today and played well. Play of the game for me was Julian's block leading to Greg's fastbreak and Austin's finish.
Reminded me of the Marquette game in 2007. A good, but smaller, team played us tight for most of the game, but the last 10 minutes we just exerted our will and dominated. Let's hope for a similar outcome from the season.

We took 37 dunks or lay-ups. Marquette took 21.

Back from the game and some Cafe 31 postgame where we were serenaded by some lovely "Let's go Mountaineers!" cheers.
The bigs had a whale of a game and Julian Vaughn was back to what the Hoyas need him to be. Monroe had his best game of the weekend and the guards were for the most part flawless. The rebounding advantage was great to see as well. It was really nice to have a breather game after yesterday.
The game that followed set back college basketball at least 100 years.
One game at a time.

I swear it is like something clicked with this team in the Cincy game. That was the first game (in this current stretch) where the Hoyas thoroughly dominated a game, and we've been on a tear since. We are scary good right now, everyone was talking about how Marquette only played in close games, and then we beat them DOWN. Loving every minute of this.
If we have all our starters click, and our 3 bench players give us anything, which is what has happened so far this tournament, we are a force to be reckoned with. No one has been as impressive as us during these conference tournaments in all the other major conferences. I don't care what the media reports or doesn't report, I've been following every tournament I can, and our performances have been the most dominant in the tournament of the hardest conference in America right now.
This locking down of teams at the end of games is reminding me of the last generation team, which did that all the time. Can't be a bad thing.

Obviously we played well in just about every facet of the game last night (sans FT shooting), but one thing that I think the guys have DEFINITELY accomplished over the course of their time in NYC is taking care of the ball. We shoot such a high percentage that if we only turn the ball over 9-12 times a game, unless the other team plays perfect, they're not going to be able to beat us. I think JTIII's message to his team has been delivered: get more shots up than the other team (by not turning the ball over and crashing the glass), and we'll be awfully hard to beat.
As several posters have already noted, our defensive intensity has really picked up since the Cinci game. Marquette got nothing easy last night, and we are really rebounding the ball well to limit any second chance opportunities. What's great is that it's been a team effort in this regard; if one guy makes a mistake on defense, the entire team eventually pays for it. But everyone is on the same page and it's really beautiful to watch them lock down on team after team now.
Re: dribble penetration. The guys could always do it, but I thought earlier in the year they were tentative when they started to not get calls. In games where they kept finishing at the rim, they would continue to do so, but in other games they would stop driving the minute they weren't getting any whistles inside. The biggest difference I see between then and now is that our guys don't give a crap if they're not getting the whistles. They have committed to continuing to drive with aggression even if the shots aren't falling and they're not getting to the line. That puts tremendous pressure on a defense, and it is really opening up the other aspects of our offense. CW has been the perfect example of this the last 3-4 games, and he, AF, JC and HT must continue to do this on a consistent basis.

What can you say about this team that hasn't been said. Proud to be a Georgetown fan because we have a great team filled with great guys.

Is anyone worried about Austin, with all these games in a row.. He did not look tired but just not quite himself offensively.. Prob just being to picky... I think West Virginia might well be the ones who are worried. Austin has been playing well in most aspects -- that breakout with Monroe was beautiful, and he's been gritty inside and the foul line. Once he locates his 3 stroke, which he inevitably will (and hopefully it's tonight), with all the other good stuff he's been doing, the opponent will have one more giant headache.

Hey saxacd... good to see you posting. And I was thinking exactly the same thing about Austin. He's really been playing quite well -- just not "out of his mind". But tonight might just be his night. Chris went for 27 v Cuse, Greg had 23 last night. Maybe tonight is for Austin. And... quietly, Jason has been amazing too. He has 12 in the second half last night -- on 5/5 shooting!

Jason has been the most consistent player and has an outside chance of making the BET Tournament team, although there might not be another spot for a Hoya after GM and CW.

I'm impressed with Greg's defense and rebounding. It's clicking! He's no longer doing The Hibbert Bump 37 feet away from the basket.

Completely agree - Vaughn was superb last night except for one ill advised forced drive which resulted in an airball. Grabbed key rebounds, played GREAT D, and did a great job offensively knocking down his shots and passing out of double teams. Heck he even hit a 3. Fantastic.

Watching West Virginia is like watching the JT2 era teams. Strong defensive team, can't shoot a lick.

Maybe they are thinking of Perkins while at UNC. It's the left-handedness. Greg = Jimi Hendrix
