Man it's hard to believe it's "spring break" the first week in March with snow still on the ground, especially since they had a VERY long xmas/new year's break. Must be sweet to be a college student these days.

Must be sweet to be a college student these days. That actually hurts us this year for our annual spring break game. This year students just want to GTFO of DC and the snow and get to warm Bahamas weather. In previous years if its nice in DC, students don't mind quite as much pushing back their departure date a day or two.

I watched the first half of Nova-Cinci last night. If we contain Vaughn, we will win the game. He doesn't shoot a particularly good %, but he is really the person who makes things happen on the team. Leads in 3 pt % (of all relevant players on the team), leads in assists, in free throw %. Contain him and we win. Simple.

We also need Jason to return to the defensive standout he was last year.

We're playing for a day off. If that isn't enough motivation for the guys, I'm not sure what is.

Hoya faithful, relax.
GU is a much better team than Cincy. If Austin doesn't play or has limited playing time, it makes this matchup a bit closer, but GU should still prevail.
GU's bigger problem is going to be the BET, GU needs a decent draw, or its one and done.
If GU were to loose to Cincy, and does not win a game in the BET, GU is on the bubble, and makes the NCAA only based upon a few quality wins, a six or seven seed.
Lack of depth has been the problem all season, these kids are tired, one player goes down, and there's no help.
Beat Cincy, win a game or two in the BET, and all will be okay through the first weekend of the NCAA's.

If we lose out, we're not on the bubble. I can't stress this enough. No team with a resume as strong as ours has ever missed the dance. A FEW quality wins? We have 7 last I checked. That's more than all but a handful of teams. That all being said, without Austin on Saturday we are going to have major issues.

RockawayHoya, we seem to agree.
I didn't say GU was not going to make the dance, I said they would make the dance as a result of their quality wins, not there entire body of work.
Several teams with records similar to GU are not going to make it to the tourney, our edge will be strength of schedule and quality wins. What hurts are also a whole bunch of losses to inferior teams.
Beat Cincy, win a game or two in the BET, and this conversation is academic.
Loss to Cincy, and don't win a game in the BET, and we watch and wait.
If GU goes into the tourney as a 8 or 9 seed, GU was on the bubble, these are the last teams in.

The last at large teams in are always at least #11 seeds.

Clearly, with the AF news, this team must come out with something to prove. Tough Defense would be a good starting point.

If GU goes into the tourney as a 8 or 9 seed, GU was on the bubble, these are the last teams in. There have been at-large 12 seeds each of the past 4 years. So, if you're one of the top 45 or so teams by the committee's standard, you're getting in. Even the worst 9 seed is the 36th best team, and a 10-team leap at that point is pretty significant.

Vee should start against Cincy. Get him in the groove early. Fact is you 3 guard, play zone forcing Cincy to shoot from the outside (not a good outside shooting team), and limits there inside looks. Keep the 2 bench guys (Jerelle and Hollis) we have in their normal roles as best you can.

We should play that exact same game.

If we could start playing again like we did at UW (maybe not that many turnovers), I'd be happy. Hell, I'd be happy if we could start playing like that even with the turnovers.

Key may be to keep Rashad Bishop at or below his 8-9 pts per game average. Above average numbers for him means trouble. I don't even want to think about what happens if he has numbers like that #34 for ND had.

I think this season will kind of be like the 05-06 season.* Both teams did/ are struggled down the stretch. If we win on saturday both teams will have ended the season 2-3. The 06 teams rallied and made the semifinals of the BET and almost made the finals( we shall not speak of that game). Then they made the sweet16 and almost beat the national champions to make the elite 8( again we shall not speak of that game). I think this team can make a similar turn around. We can make a run in the BET and the NCAAs. Hopefully this years team gets a couple more breaks and can get a little further. The season isn't over folks! I hope everyone turns out on saturday and cheers on the Hoyas to victory! Those who jump off the bandwagon now are going to be kicking themselves later this month!
* I know it's a fool's errand to compare current seasons to past seasons. I know none of the comparisons are ever close to accurate.

I would love to see a bad game from Cincy. We can only control what we do, but when is the last time a team like this has played a poor game against us? We took ND's, RU's and USF's best shot, it would be nice to play a mediocre team that actually plays mediocre against us for once and does not decide to have a role player go 4-5 from the 3 pt line. Unforced errors are welcomed as well.
I do agree with playing zone to test their outside shooting, but we are really bad in zone so there is risk. I would like us to play this game with patience and get back to our program's fundamentals. The defense may improve if we slow it down on offense and make Cincy work on defense.
