Interesting stuff, JGalt.
This, however, is astounding:
"Exhibit F: The Whining. This has lessened this season. At least visibly. But he can really live up to the name Crysby. In the playoffs last year in Game 1 against the Caps, Ovie scored a hat trick on home ice. Hats rained down as they have for years and years in the NHL. It is a tradition as revered as the Lambeau Leap, as honored as drinking the milk after the Indy 500, it is hockey and should be respected. But no, Crosby asked the officials to make an announcement of the PA! for fans to STOP THROWING HATS ON THE ICE!!!! I mean come on! He even had the gall to later claim he was not complaining...ugh dude that is the definition of complaining."
This may be the worst single whine I've ever heard of. Unbelievable.

Hmmm, well that may be a little homerism going on there.
I don't claim to know all the facts 100%, but my understanding of the incident is that it went down a little differently than jgalt has described.
I don't think Crosby complained when fans first threw hats down on the ice, as is long-standing tradition at any hockey game, let alone the NHL.
I think he complained when they got everything cleaned up, and then after that, fans threw more hats down on the ice. As you can imagine, if the fans keep doing that, it would be a pretty darn long delay, and I think I might complain a little bit too in that instance.
Again, maybe I have it wrong, but that's how I heard the story.

It seemed to me like the second wave was the hats from the upper deck getting tossed in by the lower bowl fans. But yes, Boz is right it was the delay that made him complain. But it shocked me that he would claim he wasnt complaining when he just had, by definition, complained.
