It was about 2 minutes into the game when I got a chance to turn it on. It was already 1-0. Within minutes it was 2-0. Then they held us for what seemed like an "eternity" before we made it 3-0 probably a good 5 minutes later! Then 4 came almost immediately. Then a customer came in and while I was showing him a CD player, 5 and then I heard what I figured was a replay of the 5th goal. NOPE ... number 6. That was just ridiculous. Whoever likened it to a video game was dead on. Also, I heard them say that Finland had only given up 4 goals the entire tournament before today's game. And that was in what ... 4 complete games? Wow, just wow. Do you work at Best Buy? You ARE The 40 Year Old Virgin

Tim Thomas, garbage time goalie. ;D
Don't blow the shutout, Timmy.
Yup, blame myself for that jinx.

My prediction was mostly correct. It was a slow, fairly uninteresting game with very few scoring chances and even fewer goals....
.....aside from that 10 minute scoring orgy from the USA in the first period!
It really was remarkable how the game started out as Canada vs. Russia, then quickly morphed into USA vs. Switzerland with about 6 minutes to go in the 1st.

So can anyone tell me where we get "Finland" from "Suomi?" That's about the only riddle we haven't solved yet. Suomi is what they call where they are from. Finland is what their fellow Scandanavians (and now everyone else) called where they are from. At least I think that's how it works.

Haven't followed much of this discussion after the last US/Canada game, but it seems like today's game is among the most important in the history of US hockey. Is it fair to call it the most important since Miracle on Ice?

It's a somewhat distant relative of Hungarian, another brutally hard language whose name for itself bears little resemblance to what most of the world calls it (Hungary in Hungarian is Magyarorszag). In my experience, this becomes a point of pride, e.g. haha you silly foreigners, you can't hope to master our tongue so do whatever you need to do. Or, in the Simpsons version, "To pronounce it correctly, I would have to rip out your tongue"

Maybe if you look at it from the NHL perspective: if the US win it would be a very good first step toward bringing the NHL back towards main stream popularity. If the US wins the numbers from viewership for the next few NHL on NBC games will be very interesting. Hopefully a US win will increase popularity in the southern franchises (i.e. florida). And as i type this the NHL on NBC shows a pretty crappy commercial promoting the hawks/wings game next weekend. Time will tell. If they US loses i cant see it causing any damage.

Canada seems to be collapsing better on our goal right now, when our tries seem to be on the run.

So, was the pregame comment that maybe 3 guys on Team USA would even make Team Canada's roster accurate, or hyperbole? Despite my latitude, don't follow pro hockey much.

Wow - Canada deserves that after a bunker mentality for the last 3-4 minutes. Unbelievable though to get a goal with 24.4 to play and to send this to extra frames. The Canadian fans had a priceless reaction.

USA falls completely flat in OT. It seemed like whenever you looked, there were more white jerseys on the screen than blue. How do you get out-hustled by a team that's playing their fourth game in four days, one more than you, and just gave up a heartbreaking goal with 24 seconds left?!?!?!

Wow, you sound like a true Hoya fan ;D I am relatively uneducated about hockey but I am assuming the Canadian team was just a bit more talented individually and the 4 v. 4 format of OT just exposed that. USA played just as well -- in fact, I thought they played a stronger game overall, just came up a bit short. Great game.

I thought both teams came out very slow and methodical in OT. Definitely playing very careful in the first 5-6 minutes. It opened up a bit after that, but I didn't thin Canada had a real big advantage. They just made a great play to free Crosby and he got it done.
Shame that with all of the saves Miller made in the tournament and in the game, that was the one he let go by though. I know he wished he had that one back, because I was sure he was going to stop it.
What a completely fantastic tournament though.
