Ski team doing a great job. Too bad there's virtually no coverage of the events. My how times have changed. Yesterday during the day, NBC showed every run from the 1st round of qualification to the medal round of the women's snowboard halfpipe.

Bode now has THREE medals in first THREE Alpine events
Bronze in Downhill Silver in Super G Gold in Super Combo
After going 0-5 in Torino, and -- as of last summer -- not even planning to race this year, what a HUGE comeback for the kid from New Hampshire!
Awesome performance!

Bode Wins GoldEXCERPT WHISTLER, British Columbia -- American Bode Miller finally fulfilled his expectations and won an Olympic gold medal Sunday, using a blistering slalom run for victory in the super-combined.
After placing seventh in the downhill run, Miller skied the third-fastest slalom leg for a two-run combined time of 2 minutes, 44.92 seconds Sunday.
"I skied with 100 percent heart -- I didn't hold anything back," Miller said.

U.S. emerges as Winter Olympics behemoth. seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/stevekelley/2011141796_kelley21.htmlEXCERPT"I couldn't man up and do it," (Shani) Davis said. "I put my heart, I put my soul, I put everything I had into the race, left everything out on the track, but in the end I wasn't strong enough. I came up half a second short of a gold medal, and I will be honest, it hurt."
There was disappointment in silver Saturday. That's how successful the United States has been in the first half of the 2010 Games.

I really enjoyed watching Jeff Zucker on Morning Joe this morning talking about how exemplary NBC's coverage of these Olympics have been.
It was one of the most entertaining examples of a man living completely in denial that I have seen in some time. I can't find a clip of the interview to post unfortunately but, trust me, it was quite a laugh.

The Men's 30k Pursuit cross-country race was awesome. Norway was supposed to dominate, but the Swedes used Tour de France team tactics to perfection and took away gold and bronze.

NBC trumpeted the fact that they've doubled the amount of coverage given to these Olympics, compared to their coverage of the 2002 SLC games. I thought that figure, at least, was impressive, until reading just now that the number of Winter Olympic events has more than doubled since the 1988 games. So while the NBC flagship and multiple cable offspring seemingly bombard us with Olympics coverage, the actual ratio of coverage to content might honestly be where it was during the Cold War.

On Friday, when Bode and Andrew Weibrecht were busy taking silver and bronze in the Super G, NBC decided showed only a handful of skiers from that race, instead opting to show EVERY SINGLE ice dancing compulsory routine. It was not a medal night for ice dancing, and each routine was the EXACT SAME! Pathetic choices of coverage all Games long for NBC, and this is the worst example.

I would guess the main factor in the amount of coverage is the airing of seemingly the ENTIRE Curling program on CNBC and some on MSNBC. No, I am not kidding.

Except they pretty much only show the US curling matches, and as anyone who has watched can tell you, the US team isn't all that good. There is nothing more frustrating than hearing the crowd roar when something happens in one of the other games occurring simultaneously, only to have the announcers say that there is another game, but refusing to say who's playing or what's happening.

CT, I agree with SirSaxa, but maybe it is "just my good luck." For the past 4 days or so, I have noticed that curling seems to be on, every single time I look, and it isn't even all the live events. So it must just be my special skill. Saturday afternoon, after one of the hoops games ended, they put on the olympics, and you guessed it, curling was on. The bartender commented on how he was tired of seeing curling on all the time. Fast forward to Sunday, out at the lake, a while after the great hockey win over Canada, we checked back in. Sure enough, curling. My friend pointed out just that fact: that they sure show a lot of curling ... and that we weren't really any good at it either. Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. I check in at work and curling is on. It was US vs. someone. Fast forward to late afternoon/early evening. I'm waiting on our pizza, so I go grab a beer at the bar. There it is again: curling and it is the topic of discussion between that bartender and another couple who are enjoying their dinner. Everyone was commenting on how it always seemed to be on. Incidentally, that was Sweeded and Canada I think -- definitely Canada. I guess the point is that at some point, enough is enough.
